Well, now more issues - MSI Live Update Online installed in the IE8 browser does not work, asks for permission to run, OK, then nothing..

System control center, tried running as administrator, same thing, just trails off and never anything to be seen from it.

This is with a fresh f3 restore, nothing deleted, just windows update has been run.

    Not a very good OOTBE.

hmm. after removing the bloatware off it, removing the old drivers and installing the 10.3/10.4, any time my screen blanks I can't wake it up. The fan stays running and all but it goes to sleep. Only way out of it is to hold down the power button 4 secs to turn off. Now it will post and 'starting windows' shows but that's about the extent, the screen goes black then nothing.

I'm running f3 recovery now to start over. What fun.

I had something like that... when I hit shut down it would all shut down except the fan was still spinning and lights were on. Did a restore to fix it.

That seems to be a manifestation of the PowerPlay downclocking issue.

that only makes sense if you're running on battery though doesn't it? I was plugged in the whole time, even more the battery wasn't ever connected

well something isn't right, the F3 restore clock shows 61 minutes 44 seconds and the progress bar is all the way to the right... no disc activity via the light that I can see for at least 10 minutes. Early on in the restore I saw a popup window something about 'recagent false' and clicked the close button. Restore resumed and now this.

No, PowerPlay still downclocks whenever the screen turns off if you're on "Maximum Performance" mode, which is the default for when the laptop is plugged in.

Well I forced it off with the power button and hit f3 recover at post, see what happens this time. Haven't had time to make the recover discs yet.

ok this time the f3 restore only took maybe 15 mins and I'm doing the initial setup again now. I'm not going to remove/upgrade anything tonight and see if the problem still exists. I hope not.
