Which version of the AMD GPU Clock Tool should I download for use with the 5850 in my GX640?
Thanks

This one. Did you really need to make a new thread for this?
-
I'm not sure that I needed to, but.. I figured it'd get the answer the fastest plus it will be easy for others to find it later.
Thanks tho -
I am able to use this clock tool to downclock my speeds to 100/100 (GPU Core Clock/Memory Clock), and overclock to at least 700/1100.
With speeds at 100/100 temps decrease to about 50C and battery life increases to about 3 hours.
In order to use this to automatically set your clocks upon startup do this:
1. Create a shortcut on the desktop.
2. Use target "C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -eng=400 -mem=400
-Copy and paste that, including the quotation marks. Adjust the "400" and "400" to whatever you so choose. I'd recommend you first test the clocks to ensure that they are stable.
3. Move that shortcut from the desktop to the "startup" folder. That is found under Start, All programs, Startup.
4. You're done. -
Yep, that's what I told you to do alright
Nice work typing up that post anyway, though; it should make things more straightforward for others. -
Yes thanks Cheese!
It still took me a while to figure out what you meant, so I figure some others might.. so I added in the info for the more newbie steps. -
Hi guys,
Have been reading many posts in the two last days and I first wanna thank you for all the information gathered thanks to you ;-)
I found the short manipulation explained iin this thread pretty useful but I was wondering one thing:
Once I start playing, if I want to quit my down-clocking setting and let PowerPlay get control of my clocking speed again how can I do it by using such a simple shortcut?
I guess by simply putting eng=650 & mem=1000 in the AMD Gpu shortcut will "fix" these values and won't let Powerplay gain control of my clocking speed again (i.e. it won't let PowerPlay adjust dynamically again)?
Is there any other way for doing this?
Last question: Frequent changing (few times a day) of the frequences of the GPU doesn't decrease the life-span of the component? 'Cause I would hate to discover one day that my GPU doesn't work properly... :-/
Thanks for the answers ;-) -

Has anyone had problems downclocking their GPU to 100/100 all way?
when plugged in and trying to downclock the memory to anything below 350 I start getting screen artifacts. Any idea what's up with that?
I have the 10.6 catalyst drivers installed, with the new VBIOS update as well.
Thanks! -
I have no problems @100/100 but I read somewhere that if you go down from 625/1000 to 100/100 you have artefacts, you should try to down to 300/300 before.
625/1000 => 300/300 => 100/100 -
so do you have to disable Powerplay to do this?
-
Yes I think so.
