I have a 9600M GT with a generic NVIDIA bios and it is NOT locked to a specific manufacturer. Does anyone know if it will work in a MSI GX620 that has a dead 9600M GT? Thanks.

I'm trying to sell it on eBay and someone asked me if it would work in a GX620. It fits in a MXM-II slot like the GX620 has, but we aren't sure about the vbios compatibility. I thought someone here might have had some experience in swapping vid cards.

Asking me wouldn't do any good, because I was the one that asked Jernkar about the BIOS. ;) If the HD 3650 doesn't work out, I would like to at least go back to stock.

I know from personal experience that u can put in a 9600m that u take from a gx620 into another gx620. I'm not sure about non-gx 620 cards, but logic says that it will work as long as they're MXM. hope that helps ya.

It should work, unless the system bios refuses any other vbios but their own. I think Acer is that way. The Acer system bios will reject the video card if it doesn't have an Acer vbios. But it is possible to blind flash the video bios with Acer's vbios so it will be accepted.
I didn't try that with my Compal. The problem I had was taking out a 8600M GT with GDDR2 and replacing it with a 9600M GT with GDDR3. Also, I was told, the Compal video card has no vbios, it is all done with the system bios. Anyway thats the way I understand it.

Is that the guide by nightwalker with the custom made copper plate? I think he installed it in an Asus C90 or something like that.
