    no rply yet?

i posted this q in the msi g725 owbers lounge too and got no response.
i just want to find out if the gpu slot is mxm compatibe (what kind), and if not , if its using the proprietary ati gpu slots that allow gpu swapping/upgrading to a higher gpu model

    cheers

We don't know anything yet because the 4870's aren't available for individual purchase yet, only available in the big a** Asus. So unless someone who has one is willing to ship it out to a 725 owner to check, then ship back, it isn't going to happen for probably another month or so.

The question also begs, can the 1722/720 be upgraded to a 4850 (and subsequently a 4870)? The chassis look basically identical.

I'm curious, as I have 2 1722's coming in. One is a replacement for a smoker, and the other is to give this spare QX9300 a home.

Let me know about the 4850's. I like the GT725, but it boxes you in component wise with that 9 cell battery (could hunt down a 6 cell), CPU choice and not my cup of tea Wifi amongst other things. And the fact as soon as you pop the back cover the warranty is basically trashed (not that it matters to us heh).

Did you ever get a chance to try the 3870 in the 1722?

the thread shows the mxm versions of both 4800 but it doesnt explicitly state wether these are indeed the cards inside a g725 so we still dont know wether its an mxm slot inside the msi g725

It really looks like all MSI did was pop a 4850 in the GX720/ID2 Chassis along with a new heatsink.

Yeah, they skimped on the WiFi, which is sad if it is wired like the 1722/720 chassis with 3 leads. I'd replace the 5100 they put in there asap, but you void your warranty.....

I'd definitely like th see a 725 bare bones being offered.
