I have today installed a 6990m card into my GT780dx-215US, I have run 3d mark vantage, hwinfo, and GPU-z to show you peeps my results on std clocks:

AMD Radeon HD 6990M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1761 score: P14785 3DMarks

I am using the heatsink of a 5870 needed slight modification but fits perfect and perfect contact on all ram chips and loads of contact on the other parts aswell :D

Will have a look into overclocking later :D How do my results seem to others whom have a 6990m in similar spec machines? good / bad

Really seems correct. Need a 3dmark11 bench though as this is related to DX11.
Your system performs well I guess.

I will do a 3d mark 11 run in a bit, having some probs over clocking if I run anymore over standard the results are worse than standard  temps are well within acceptable levels. I have had the card out again an re-pasted the GPU checked the thermal pads are setted fine and all good as said temps are fine as you can see above.

Try a 3DMarkVantage run with clocks at 860/1060 - use Trixx to set them. This is my best result with a Clevo 6990M (same as yours I think)

    ALSO

I just noticed your vbios number is newer - can you upload for me please? :D

Mine - look at BIOS version (ignore subvendor)

I just updated and I'll let you know what my scores are like

Fine for me, scores at the same level

Not enough powa'? What ac adapter do you have? 180W? Maybe the card needs more than that...

Force flash in DOS using ATIflash...

And 180w should be enough :/ you're not using an XM CPU either.

Do these cards use ATI's smart power limiting and have to be set to +20% mode?

Spec is as per my signoff and I am using a 180watt ps

Well looks like I will try and get a 240watt PSU and see if it makes any difference

the coming GT783 or GT685 come with a 180W ac adapter so theres no need for a higher one. I did the mod blind at the time without any official info. Though it would not hurt to get one ;).

I have force flashed the card to a P150 and it's the same issue no problem so it's either a rubbish 6990m or just lack of power is there a program i can use to check the watts my system is using??

I will add that I am using catalyst beta version 12.1. I have decided I am going to remove all drivers tonight using driver sweep and remove all ATI programs and start a fresh, just to make sure. I know there is not a GPU or CPU temp problem so it's either rubbish 6990m, bad drivers / software related, or crap 180watt PSU unit.

yeah have done that and same behaviour, it's not that the laptop black screens it's that the fps in 3dmark and a few other benchmark's either drop for alongtime down to 2fps  and is giving bad / worse scores, I have just read a few M17 threads which have had similar problems and removal of drivers and catalyst and a fresh load of these has sorted. So i am going to try this first before i throw the 6990m in the bin

IIRC there is a chip on the back of the card which can get hot and a thermal pad connecting it to the motherboard can help?

forget the benchmarks! I've had experiences with my old desktop GTX295 which indicates that actual gameplays are far more accurate when it comes to benchmarking than the other software!

Install BF3 (or any other available game you have) and show us how it does!

but even after overclock and he can only reach a certain point is not normal.

Btw 12.1 is the most recent and stable release available, you should not have any problem with it.

Open up HW info and check the temp #1 2 3.

I have done a full wipe and fresh install of windows 7 on the lappy aswell now hence the basic background in this attachement , I have used drive cleaner and CCleaner aswell and still the same issue, card temps are very good but down on card performance

Temps are good this is idle
    [IMG]

during benchmark you can see the max temps and this are both without the turbo fan on

I admit that temps are quite OK. I would certainly flash the 6990M with the DELL bios as we know dragon used a DELL 6990m in his GT683 and that was working quite well.

My concern with flashing to the dell bios is the fact I could brick the card the Clevo uses different ram chip's for a start to the Dell. I have contacted the seller and asked for the advice's asked if they have a dell 6990m about I could swap this one for :D

It's strange I notice the CPU processor on some results is @ 3093mhz then on other run's it's only 2295mhz, I am sure if it would stay @3093mhz and I keep the clocks @ 820 / 960 it should go over 4k as that is the clocks that achieved the above 3dmark 11 score

Your Clevo card won't work with a Dell vbios - don't try it because you might not be able to flash back.

865/1065 is the max I can push my Clevo card for a full 3DMark Vantage run without artifacts - try it!

Both Dell and Clevo cards perform equally in gaming but the Dell card might get slightly better results in benchmarks due to higher memory clocks - can be pushed to 1250 thanks to Hynix memory. Our Samsung memory in our Clevo cards aren't the best :(

3dmark reports CPU freq/speed wrong most of the time, don't pay attention to that!

3dmark11 4K is fine, do not focus too much on benchmark as I remind you they run only in 1280x1024 while you will play at higher res where the 6990M manages quite well.
Benchmark is for me a way to check that your system is running well and I think your is.

Hmm... have a 6990M in my clevo thought I would chime in. Best I've done is 886/1100, thats pretty much near the limit. If you are concerned about benchmark scores the core clock is way more important than the memory clock.

Over 4k for 3dmark11 is a really good score (stock my system does 3548 in 3dmark11). Congrats for getting this card to work in another laptop!

here is my card info guys for those who asked:

note: my 3dmark vantage run was NOT on 12.1 drivers... for exact driver version see the link my sig.

from my experience clevos tend to do a bit better than dell/alienware on the core clock, but lets face it... its maybe a 2-3% difference. realistically, the marginal difference would maybe be 1 FPS in a game. so either way, a 6990M is a great card no matter the vendor. but yeah, assuming you just want a good score for the heck of it, i know the feeling. i was #1 for a while for single 6990m, then someone beat me by about 80 points on a 15" clevo using the same clocks. if i got my ambient temps down, more potential for sure. but this is my work rig, i can't risk frying the card so no more ocing for me. just giving you an idea, far as I know 886 core is the fastest someone has taken it thus far. only way to beat that: if you live in a cold area get your ambient temps way down then bench. but at that point your pushing a 25% oc, hope u dont fry the card.

Aslo tried HDMI connection tonight get image but no sound? (had sound with the 570m)

A driver issue perhaps. No sound using HDMI with mine either, however I thought thats just how it works. irrc there is an hdmi toggle in the AMD sound drivers where the sound card will toggle between system speakers and hdmi... using newest 12.1 drivers.
i'll look at it when i get home tonight.

And if your vbios is different could you upload it? Thanks
