Ive been reading this forum for awhile and have seen many things tried on the GX720, but many have not been followed up on or are spead over several threads, so what i am trying to find is what has been tried and what has failed and worked as to gpu upgrades on the gx720. along with some general info on what might work.

    thank you.

Also is there a chance that the FX 3700m will work in it. i'm not tofamilarized in the realm of graphics card types and sockets.

I just put a 3870 MXM III in my GX720 and everything works well. I have a review on it.

I didnt mod the heatsink. I bought one from a GT735 and it worked. Stays cool.

just of it without back cover to see the heatsink ect. that would be very helpfull.

considering the FX 3700m as a viable upgrade, but there is hta additional tab on the right side, that bugs me, if it is used or is it just a stablizer.

    oh and thanks cobra03!

I would avoid all gpu's with tabs for the gx720. But if you have the money to blow, go right ahead.

I feel sorry for your friend. I would do it just as a test. I bet 99% that IF it boots up, that it will be crippled like my 9800m gt was (meaning it will not operate at its fullest potential).

erm why would it be crippled? I read somewhere you weren't getting enough power? What is the max load of the OEM battery and charger? Perhaps you werent getting enough because your battery was not the same as the new amount? Did you unplug battery and run system with only the new ac adapter?

dude, I wasn't even using a battery, MSI builds it so that ANY graphics card would be reduced in battery mode. Have you tried gaming on battery?

Of course I was running in AC. The card wasn't getting enough power through the pci-express. I tested it already.

Not all PCI-Express slots are created equal.

@ technos. If you try this swap with your friend, please inform me, because I found one place selling this card ... and I'm still wondering should I buy it or not?!?
