It is my understanding that the Bios won't support the GPU. Haven't heard of an official, nor unofficial, Bios that can be flashed to allow it. I'd be interested hearing of any success stories.

I had a MSI branded GX660/16F1 with a Dell 7970m. It was plug and play with the 7970m heatsink, and the Dell bios the card had on it. Everything worked perfectly and the system ran as it had been shipped with the card.

That being said, you needed a certain Dell vbios. Mine was an early 7970m with a bios string starting with 015.017.....

I do know that if you had a newer Dell vbios (022..) version you needed a UEFI motherboard bios.

I'm not sure if you can simply flash an early Dell bios to a Clevo card, or have a system to flash the card in. Without a system to flash the card, I think you'll have difficulty getting the card to work. Unless you can blind flash?

Look at these threads for tips and library of vbios.. Apparently the Clevo card can be flashed with Dell vbios.

Thank you for all this usefull Information.
The Infos you gave are very helpfull !

I managed to boot my system via network with linux and ssh into and could see the VGA Card (lspci)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 6800 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device 10d4

I was able to build up an USB stick which uses atiflash to list adapter, save current bios and check checksum of new bios

    Command Operation without options: -i
adapter bn dn dID asic flash romsize test bios p/n
    ======= == == ==== =============== ============== ======= ==== ================
    0 01 00 6800 Pitcairn M25P10/c 20000 pass -

    Command Operation without options: -s 0 origbios.rom
    0x20000 bytes saved, checksum = 0x8800

Command Operation without options: -cf HD7970M.rom
    File Checksum = 0x5000

So should not be a big deal running the real flash command ....
but i am thinking about the following.
if i will use atiflash with option reboot the system will reboot and start again from usb stick and will flash again :-(
if its not successfull i have no idea at which point i have to remove the Stick because i will have no VIDEO
if i plug off the Stick at the wrong moment the vbios may be broken.
should be possible to get around this ... have to think and test a little bit ...

Can you tell me which manufacturer version your VGA Card had.

So I am unsure if its possible to flash the MSI Card i have with DELL OEM Bios without destroying it.

MSI 7970m doesn`t work in 16f1 !!!!! When you flash it with dell vbios it will give you green screen I have tested it with all vbioses and it gives no display or green screen. For all who wants to upgrade 16f1 16f2 16f3 - IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MSI 7970m. ONLY DELL 7970m with old bios.

    Thanks for clarifying this
Wondering why MSI Card will not work on MSI Board ...
Do you think this Card would fit for 16f1 (Medion x6811) ?
    Alienware AMD HD DELL 7970M 2GB GDDR5 -for M15x, M17x , M18x ,upgrade monkey | eBay
Yes I know the BIOS is wrong but bildflash as described to 015.017.... should not be the issue.
Are there other "different" Dell Cards available ? Or is a Dell Card a Dell Card (except the vbios)
It is time for me to get a working Card. :(
I never thought thats such a Problem to find the right Card as it is all MXM 3.0 B Standard ...

    Hi all

Thanks for all the Infos you gave me here
After a long Journey and Problems with Customs because of changing the Card it works .... :)
    16f1 (Medion x6811,MSI GX660) with Dell 7970M vBIOS 015.021.000.000.000000 (113-C42904A1-118)
    vBios was pre-installed.
The Checksum of the BIOS is not the same as the one at techpowerup VGA Bios Collection: Dell HD 7970M 2048 MB | techPowerUp
So i am not sure whats the difference. But no matter ... its running ...
