Considering an MSI 16F2, and it appears there are two main screen options...
    • Super Clear Glare Type Screen
    • Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080)
Not clear to me whether the first is matte or glossy? For that matter, same goes for the 2nd, as elsewhere I've seen "glossy" screens which are advertised as antiglare???

Too, under what use cases would it be worthwhile to have the 2nd screen w/higher color gamut?

Thanks for any advise in advance!

Super Glare Type is a Glossy screen.

Anti glare is a matte finish screen.

The MS-16F2-002, MS-16F2-004 are glossy screens stock from the manufacture.

The MS-16F2-012 is a matte finish screen stock from the manufacture.

Any screen upgrades will void the manufactures warranty. They will Not be covered under the manufactures 1 year warranty.

Partners can perform Upgrades to cpu, memory, hdd, wireless. ect. Screen upgrades, chassis modifications will void the manufactures warranty. Performing a screen upgrade is major disassembly/reassembly to the notebook chassis.

Hmm, I don't think I can agree with that Rob. I do agree that MSI's warranty will not cover the upgraded screen, but it does not void the MSI warranty at all.

If the dealer that does the upgrade is an MSI BTO Contract Dealer, that dealer will warranty the screen and any other upgrades they do, but MSI's warranty for the rest stays intact.

So what is the consensus re msis GT user upgrade policy.... I want to confirm that user upgrade of HD, memory, even the optical disc will NOT void the warranty?

The MSI BTO contract is for the MSI branded products we resellers sell and not the barebone products. I was told this type of upgrade would void the warranty on either barebone or branded so you should re-check.

Besides the warranty issues but also related to them (This is not directed at you)-I have personally helped out quite a few customers/end-users of other resellers who have had their notebooks shipped in circles for weeks (Not the manufactures fault). The notebooks were diagnosed by the reseller as a failed VGA card and shipped back to the manufacture, in the end it was an upgraded screen issue and not a VGA failure. The customer was so upset at that point they were just looking for a replacement screen from us.

The opposite has also happened where a reseller has the notebook shipped back directly to them for an upgraded screen failure replacement and it is a VGA failure. Now the reseller either wants to send that customers notebook back to the manufacture or has to wait another week for the part to arrive from the manufacture. We receive many calls from customers put in these positions by their resellers just looking to buy the part outright so they can put an end to the problem and get their notebook back in service after their screens have been upgraded.

In the end the screen upgrades cause nothing but grief, and extended downtime to the customer/end-user.
