To be honest, the battery is very good as mine lasts over 2 hours (about 2h20 average) browsing or watching movies, it was with the GTX460M though but should be the same with a 570M.

for me it last up to 3 hours max when surfing the web (minus 15 mins when playing a game) with dim screen and flashy features off, without external devices (exc. mouse and 360 pad)

although I did some system power management teawks, forcing the CPU to work at 800mhz constantly when on battery! I could swear the battery could last longer with raid0 disabled and 2nd HDD removed!

True, If I set to power settings mode and run 800mhz only, I think it gets close to 3hours :)

Basic browsing and non-gaming applications on power save, I can get 3 hours out of mine easily.

soon I'll own the samsung SSD for it's power consumption (0.1w vs 3.5w for dual scorpio black) and windows 8, which I have a strong believe they'll improve battery life for no less than additional 45 mins!

Are you saying 45min from Win8 or 45min from a combination of SSD and Win8? I'm assuming the latter but I haven't read much about Win8 enough to know what a difference it would be.

Microsoft confirmed about reducing the power consumption by 35% at least because of tablets battery life...

EDIT: last night I removed 2 memory sticks to see the performance difference! between 4GB and 12GB! the difference is minimal but the power consumption went down to 21w idle (29w with 12GB ram) so unless you're dying for battery life! just remove the other unnecessary memory sticks! 4GB is still more than enough or games!

I have 2x4GB so it'd be running single channel if I took a stick out. I'm still too accustomed to being plugged in 90% of the time due to previous notebooks' (lack of) battery life, I even just straight removed my battery to help save it's life.

yeah I think it's inconvenient too! soon I'm going to buy 1 stick of 8GB ram and it's going to be from cruical! each ram stick consumes 2w for high performance rams!

btw hows the samsung SSD? I'm ordering one today!

It's the most enjoyable upgrade I've ever made for computer! It's great for its low power consumption. If I was more performance-oriented I would have gone for Crucial M4 though.
