From another thread I got the idea of modding the lid of my 1029. I think that this would look good:

I did a litle mock up in paint shop to see what it would look like, what do you guys think, should I do it?

Ok, here's another concept that looks a little more realistic. I still think that it's missing something, but I just can't put my finger on it. Suggestions, anyone?

I like the second picture, as is, but maybe, just to give it a bit more character, you should add the image in your avatar.

Both have borders, only one is almost black and the other's red.
I'm starting to like the red one, A LOT.
    MSI Ferrari, anyone? :D

I just contacted a guy that will sell me a 15'x20' sheet of carbon fiber vinyl which is roughly twice what I'd need. It's a good deal too, about $22 shipped and he'll also throw in a sheet of either chrome or brushed aluminum (probably will use it for the badge).

I still have to figure out the painting bit though, most people recommend automotive paint, but I'm thinking that scale modelling paint would be a better fit.

Will keep you guys updated, but since this is a warranty voider I'm gonna take my time to get it right.

Are the parts you are planning to paint plastic? If so you should use vinyl dye as it soaks onto the plastic. Linkage to vinyl dye: http://www.dupli-color.com/products/vinyl.html

if you're not going to do a full sand-down and prime, the automotive paint won't be worth buying. Once you're happy with the paintjob, though, a clear-coat is a good idea.

If you want perfection, you'll need to disassemble and do the whole deal, in which case the auto paint will look better.
