My 1029 has an MT-34 and is a gentoo 64 install.
I flashed the bios to 2.5 a couple of days ago in anticipation of adding anothe rstick of RAM. I noticed a couple of changes to the bios - critical temp dropped to 100 C (should be 95 I think) from 127 C, Looks like C8 enabled as max c state, and finally the 800 mHz voltage down from 1075 to 1000.
Unfortunately this change seems to hang my laptop - when it transitions from 1800 to 800. Previously I had the 800 mhz voltage set to 1025 using a kernel patch to the powernow driver. Looks like I can lift the voltage using the patch so I guess thats what I'll do.
Just wanting to see if there are any others with an issue with this bios ? Also interested in any other BIOS / ACPI changes people have noticed.

I can't imagine dropping the 800MHz volt to 1.000 causing a problem, then again, I have a different CPU (MT-40) and I use RMClock instead of Powernow to save power. On 800MHz my CPU can run as low as 0.875v. Currently I set the low power state on 1.2G on 0.900v.
I noticed that there is an option to set RAM speed in the BIOS now which I don't think was there before, but that's pretty much it. -
Thanks for that info.
I use the undervolt patch in my kernel to bump the voltage up to 1.025 which has it solid. Still If I could get it anywhere near the 0.8v that the processor spec'd at that would be way cool ... (sic). -
WAit a sec, are we talking about BIOS or some linux tweak here? (I'm asking because I'm very illiterate when it comes to Linux). If it's BIOS, how recent is this?

The BIOS is the issue here. I recently upgraded to the 2.5 version which was released in November. In this version the default VID for the 800Mhz freq has been changed from 1075mv to 1000 mv.
However I do run an undervolt patch with a gentoo (actualy a nitro) kernel which allows me to dial in the VID as a boot parameter so I have bumped it to 1025 mv @800 which I know is good for my setup. Below that the laptop hangs when it tries to transition to lower freq after steppign up to 1800 Mhz.

Edit for spelling -
Received a new bios from MSI v2.83. Fan spins at low speed from boot and Temp stays down at 43 C at idle. Ugraded to new kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 seems to have the new Powernow driver and laptop runs OK at low voltage (800Mhz / 1000Mv).
Not sure about any other fixes as I just ran into the "unSupported OS" Wall.
