Whatever I'm doing on my new laptop, the cooling fan is almost always running. I installed NHC and it indicates that my harddrive is btwn 42-45 and the cpu around 65.

edit : I was playing silent hunter III for about half an hour and after closing the game the cpu temp was at 81°C

    Could this be a problem?

Besides the usual "Use Artic Silver 5" on your computer heatsink, you can also use RMClock application to undervolt your CPU. Eg for my MT40 to run at 2.2G it really doesn't require all 1.35v, it could do it with 1.2v. Currently my max running is either 1.8G at 1.05v (significant heat reduction) or 2.0G at 1.1v.

have you used compressed air to blow out the vents? also, check inside to make sure you don't have a layer of dust blocking your vents.

It's a one-day-old laptop... it didn't have time to collect dust.

Your MT40, at what temp does it run?

What BIOS version ? I have just upgraded to 2.83 which demonstrates exactly this behaviour. So you can have Cool or Quiet - both does not seem achievable.
BIOS 2.5 for quiet Version 2.83 for Cool.

    Hi Belgium,

I have BIOS 2.5 and not using CnQ and am using Arctic Silver 5.

In Australia it's winter now. The temp in my room is about 20-25C (don't have a therm, but I can estimate). I also added heat shielding below (8 layers of paper & plastic) which prevents it from radiating some heat out.

    Using RMClock:

When I just turned on the computer, at 1.2G on 0.9v, it is at 40C.

Then play FarCry for like 10 minutes, it goes to 2.0G on 1.1v at 68C.

When I let it cool down and wait like 1 minute, it settles back to idling at 1.2G on 0.9v at 52C.
