Well the main guy at www.donotargue.com had his HD die. :( So, That means the DNA-Vista64 drivers will be really delayed :/. but he has 9.2 for vista 64 up. 64bit Vista requires 64bit drivers will not use 32 bit drivers (no turbo buttons or media/ wifi/ blue tooth hot button/ custom program hot button)

So Redlance let me make sure I understand the 64 bit Vista issue properly. x64 can be installed on the GT725, and works just fine with the 4850. But teh problem is that even with the DNA 9.2/ 9.3 (when available) drivers the turbo button and that stuff will STILL not function?

When was the last time you heard from them?

I'm guessing they'll probably go with the 4860s or nothing at all...

Hello all I am new to this forum and was wondering if somebody could help.
I just purchased the MSI GT725-087UK

    2.53 GHz dual core
    Ati 4850

    My question is this:

    1) I ran the demo version of 3dmark 06 but only returned a score of 5200 is this normal cause I thought the scores for this laptop was meant to much higher or have i done something wrong?

    2) At the moment everything is at the original manufactures setting graphics drivers etc (i think the ati drivers are 8.2 something) if I was to down load the latest drivers which ones do i download would it be the desktop cat 9.3 as I am unable to find the mobility ones for my graphics card.

    3) What software is best to use to get an accurate result of how the laptop is performing so I can compare it to someone else’s to make sure it’s not my laptop that is defaulted.

Apologies if these questions have been answered there is just so many threads on this forum I don’t no what I am looking for lol.
    :)

correct. the turbo buttons and wifi bluetooth and multimedia buttons depend on a 32 bit driver by MSI. Until MSI writes a 64 bit driver for it you will have to do without. Personally when windows 7 comes out i am ditching vista 32 and going 64bit even without those buttons. Since the vista performance hit is reduced in windows 7(which really is just optimized vista) Vista is already considered the next Windows ME anyhow. MS will sweep it under the rug I assume like it did with ME.

    1) make sure your plugged in :D. sorry had to ask that. MSI doesn't game on batteries.
    2) make sure your in max performance profile power settings.
    3) 3dmark vantage is considered a better benchmark.
    4) stock i was getting 8900-9200 (didn't mess with power settings yet)
your numbers are *REALLY* low. any crap installed in the background?
(turn off indexing for a slight boost. at the cost of slightly slower

hello redlance changed my power plan to high performanece and slightly overclocked the ati card to 530mhz gpu clock and 870mhz memory so not taking it all the way up hit the turbo button and
my 3d mark o6 score is now 10158.
big improvment think it was just the power saving feature that was on economy and me being a noob and not checking it and this being my 1st laptop didnt relise lol.
will it be ok to leave it at this slightly overclocked setting or should i just leave it at default setting think my score was 9300 on default. Also one last thing sorry to be a pain is it worth while updating the cat drivers?. thanks for taking the time to answer my problems :)

try Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ and see if it can retrieve your serial number. if this works, then you can contact Corel and they might give you a newer version.

stock is 500/800 so your overclock is really mild. as long as you have good airflow and temps are staying 60-70c under load you should be fine. if you are running an intensive app like oblivion/crysis etc etc that can use the GPU hard you will see temps 70-78c just try to keep it under 80c.
Honestly i would use it on how valuable you feel this laptop is. if ya want it to last 5 years leave it stock or slightly under clock it. If you upgrade and throw away every two years then go overclock. but there are no guarantees it will last that long if left stock or overclock. The cooling system in this is a marvel. especially since the GPU is burning alot more watts than the cpu. As long as your fan doesn't die you should be good. and the system will shutdown/downclock or freeze if it gets too bad. But if your running 40+fps will you visibly notice any improvements? if no then just overclock for certain things.
I would also recommend cleaning the vents with compressed air at least once a month (I do it every two weeks to both laptops and my 5yo uses my G2P and its now 3 years old and still running fine) Also I would strongly recommend a laptop cooler NXCZ or Zalman NC2000 )I have the zalman NC2000 quiet and does a nice job and perfect size match.
The 9.3 cats offer a very nice improvement across the board in GPU/CPU dependant programs (like Supreme commander or any games that are bound by CPU more than GPU). also it uses dx10 for aero for improved responsiveness but you may notice a 2-5fps drop in certain games. Disabling aero will alleviate this and give a complimentary boost. The 9.3's offer a different way the OS interracts with the GPU a bit more streamlined. 9.4's should show even more of an improvement. The 9.3's i have installed are a bit of a hack so my HDMI was affected (stock shows no problem) but i like the benefits of the 9.3's so i don't care atm that i borked my HDMI out to not have sound. Next driver update i will figure a 'cleaner' method of installing em.

The warranty is online at MSI website. Since you imported it you would only have a US warranty which means if something goes wrong you have to ship it back to the use distributor. Even MSI is kinda lax about its warranty if it blows up just rma back to them with a copy of date of purchase/reciept.

Seems to me all you guys are doing a ton of stuff to your laptop before using it. Can I just buy the 074 and start using it? Or will I have to download a bunch of stuff and tweak it before I can start using it? I'm not really a big tech person.....just want to turn it on and start using it when I get it.

    T.

Nevermind, I forgot this thread is only for tweaking, overclocking, and comparing temps.

Hi guys, I just wonder what temp is your GPU running at?

My GPU is around 55 -57 C in idle and can goes up to 77 - 82 C
This is when I'm running Left 4 Dead all high in 1280x1024 in windowed mode

Do you think this is normal? Would be recommend getting a cooler pad to get the heat out?

Additional information: running 9.3 with the stock CCC. Default clock as well. No turbo used.

    Thanks

well it actually runs great after the 1 hr of setting up vista through its first time run through/setup including burning backup discs. the only thing that ya really should do is turn off indexing. (causes alot of excessive harddrive activity for meager improvement in search function). I just like to monitor temps since the GPU is using like 50 or so watts. that is a lot of heat. I would like to be aware if there ever was a fan problem before it cooks itself.
this thread is about anything GT725 :D

Yup totally normal. at 85c the fan really kicks in high gear :D a cooling pad would really help and slow the wear and tear on the built in fan. my temps are 50-53c idle and 80-82c under oblivion. Left 4 dead i hover around 68-70c but i use a zalman NC2000 cooling pad. NCZX cooler is better but require alot more usb power than the laptop can provide. if you have a powered hub this is a non issue. if you use the laptop usb it will still cool better than the NC2000 from what i have read but it will be running a lower power mode. also with this kind of laptop it is gonna have alot of airflow through the chasis. so make sure and clear out the dust from the vents at LEAST once a month.

the driver is 32 bit. so no it won't function in 64 bit. Unless MSI releases a 64bit driver for it.

hi.. i believe i'll be receiving my 074 in a week or so.

hopefully i can get this question answered by the time i start it up.

i plan on running windows7 and vista (dual boot or whatever you call it. i'm a nub)

i have my product key (have a hotmail account) but i'm wondering if anyone could tell me how i am will be going about partitioning the drive? a step by step guide would help. link, etc.. i'm really a nub to all of this.

more details: i play wow, have a fairly decent music library and surf the internet. how should i be partitioning the drive? should i copy and paste everything on vista and the windows7 partitions? answer would really be appreciated

oh and after installing ati 9.3 i saw that there is an .inf file (i assume a notepad file?) where you have to fix the 'coding' to get the drivers to work right? not sure i understood that either when it was mentioned.

    thanks.

Yer man, I had my eye on the NZXT cooler before (the Cryo LX) but unfortunately I couldn't find any UK shop that got them in stock. Also it's quite expensive as well.

I came across another cooling pad from Coolermaster "Notepal Infinite" Ebay link.
I could get them for £17.99 in the UK, which is like around $26.

Do you think they are any good?

PS. How do you clear the dust out from the vents? Blowing air from the bottom panel or from the vents exit? Using vacuum cleaner?

you can setup partitions shrink and grow and delete them from control panel -> administrative tools -> hardware manager -> disks just follow the prompts when you right click the partition .. just remember BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP!
    especially when mucking around partitions

and copy and paste don't work. it will just lead to lots of broken programs and dead links.. best to reinstall to the new os. Anyhow why bother since Vista and windows 7 are the same animal other than windows 7 will be much more tweaked and more stable.

if you you saw my post the parts i posted have to go into the obvious locations in the inf file. If you are unsure about this don't do it. As this could possibly screw up your drivers if you do it wrong. But if you are willing to edit copy and paste you can install the 9.3's but just remember your 'hacking' a bit to get the drivers to run.

as you can see this will block the passive intake over the video card vents but other vents will be fine(the rectangle double row vents at the beginning of the battery area) . its a good size fit but the GPU may not see much passive cooling. However this may be moot since the GPU is always a warm bugger and the fan will kick on anyway and the main fan intake vent will get plenty of love from the cooler (the half circle vent).

to clean vents I use a $5 can of compressed air at most electronic stores. probably 2-3 pounds if i figure right. just blow a bast in all the bottom vents then the out flow vent near fan in a short burst. (don't wanna torque the fan as this could hurt its bearings) repeat this step 2-4 times giving the fan time to stop. each burst should be less than a sec. in the outflow vent

I got turbo running on 64 bit Windows 7 ultimate. Works well for my 074 OCing the processor from 2.4 to almost 3 ghz. Make sure to download the driver utility for it as well-- although I don't think it matters. Tried it before without and used CPU-Z

Thanks for you info redlance. I prolly wait more month or two to see if they will get the Cryo LX back in stock, as I think that cooler is ideal for gaming laptop.

BTW, how can i adjust the 15% and 20% turbo in the BIOS?
    I can't seems the option.

    BIOS is V1.0S
