Is this really true? The MS1-1029, ATI RX 480M + ATI SB 400 Chipset .."due to the hardware design limitations, the memory will run at 266MHz clock whenever both memory slots are populated"
scroll down a page a bit to where the specs are listed, and you'll see this:
    http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_configurator.asp?PRID=3812
you see, i was going to get this model, cause it's a bit cheaper. i'm really not that interested in playing games on it. I just need the processing power.

If it's not true about the chipset, i could get the ms-1013 all tricked out for $1,500. And at Ava direct they can get a white case for it too! http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_configurator.asp?PRID=3046 oi wonder if rawpower could get the white case.

    Partially true.
The new BIOS (2.5) supposedly fixed the issue, but some RAM modules run at full 400 Mhz without any necessary tweaking. Mine has Supertalent memory and runs like a champ.

the only thing i wish i had on the ms-1013 is the svideo out, so i could watch vids off that, on my tv, and turn my laptop into a multimedio machine sort of. ... the white case is what really draws me to this model. i wonder how hard it is to get white cases. i've seen the ms-1029 with a red case, which looks really sweet. but i'd love white.

any other white AMD laptops out there>?

So If you put the MS-1013 and the MS-1036 together, and had:
    80 gb hd, 7,200 rpm
    windows xp pro sp2
    2 gigs pc 3200 ram
    turion mt-40

would the only difference between the 2 be ... one has a better video card than the other? That's the only difference I'm seeing.

well, it looks like I might just get the MS-1013, it seems more suited for traveling, vs. the MS-1036.

I honestly just need the laptop to run some heavy music programs, if this is just the same as the ms-1036, minus the better graphics card, then i should get this thing. i'd rather game on my desktop, and it seems like i'd be paying $500+, just to play better games on the ms-1036 and have a 17" screen.

Only thing I'm concerned about. The 12" screen. How would it be in a club/bar .. with lights on the stage and crap. And then outside. Any opinions on the screen?

And for those who own this model, how do you like it? and what do you use it for? how is the battery life? does it get too hot?

I REALLY like the white, it's cool. Call me crazy. Maybe I'd get the MS-1029 if it was white, or if rawpower could get the red one, i might be interested in getting that.

I have the 1013 and have had it for over a year. It's a great travel laptop, good battery life (3:15 or so, not great, but good), screen is excellent. Some people don't like the flexy keyboard, but it doesn't bother me.

It doesn't get hot - a little warmth on the right palmrest (over the hard drive), but not even close to uncomfortable. I run everything from Dreamweaver to Visual Studio on it.

The screen is an anti-glare glossy, pretty decent in lighted environments but in direct sun it will wash out.

I had a white S250 for awhile, same basic chassis as the 1013, i liked the white too.

I don't think you'll see the 1029 in white or red, maybe future models though.

i wish it was EASY to take the case, sand it down some, prime it, and paint the **** thing yourself.

i've seen a couple of laptop companies that have the MS-1029 case, and have them painted different colors.

Flex, meaning it 'gives' a little in certain places when you press down. some people notice it more than others. personally i don't notice or mind it, but it bugs others.
