    Hey guys, I'm a bit of a newbie here on the forums but I have a question for you owners. I am interested in buying either a GT60 or a GT70, and my main concern is the size and portability differences between the two. I want to just order a GT60, but because of the smaller size, the components need to be of a better quality and size in order to function efficiently (Mostly cooling system); Because of this, the GT70 is actually cheaper. My question is this: Is the 17.3" GT70 too bulky to carry around, and should be used as a desktop replacement? Is the extra price (almost $200 dollars difference) really worth the extra compatibility?

    I have my GT60 on order. Pretty excited about it. My only deviation from stock was the the 256 Samsung Msata and 95% gamut matte screen. Should be a great little dev box with some gaming power kick when i need to get away from work.

    As far as I know, both the GT60 and GT70 has the same cooling solution. Single fan for the cpu and gpu. And it does a pretty good job at it. I can't really say that the GT70 stays cooler than GT60 because of it's size. But what I do know is, both systems work marvelously, doesn't overheat and plays games like a champ. The GT60 should be the same price as the GT70, both base models, GT60 20C-022 and GT70 20C-065. About being bulky, I really can't say that taking a 17.3' notebook everywhere you go, is really easy. Its big, but depends on whether you find it that way or if you dont bother lugging it around. GT60 will be more portable than its big brother, so you might find it easier than GT70 to move around with. This is why I chose GT60. You could go to a nearby shop, do a comparison between a 15 incher and a 17 one. Do know that both these system are not considered light weight, a bit on the heavy side, but for me, its a small price to pay for the performance you get. So, in the end, I would say, if you leave the notebook 99% on desk, go for the GT70, the bigger screen will provide a better experience while gaming. And if you move about with your notebook frequently, go for the GT60. It'll be more portable while offering the same performance at the expense of the smaller screen. Hope this helps. :)

    @HumphreyDumfrey

    I went with the 15 inch mostly because i wanted to get the 95% gamut matte screen, but also the resolution was 1080p regardless of the size of the notebook. Cooling should be similar to the bigger GT70, but with a 770M and Haswell, Heat is not going to be a real issue. MSI actually upgraded its cooling just a bit with a unique bridging ability that will be initiated when its needed on either the CPU or GPU, and it should be even quieter over all. I also like 15 inches because it generally is more portable and will fit more bags etc when it comes to being able to carry it around.

    @aban17 and @madbohem thanks so much for the feedback, this actually helps a lot. There's no denying that no matter the choice, either laptop will be a powerhouse for gaming. It might help to know that I actually live in Germany, and XoticPC (who I will be ordering from) is one of the few shops that ship to germany for relatively reasonable shipping rates. They have the 1763 (Barebones is cheaper) listed as 125 euro/$200 dollars cheaper, so I might have to look into other brands to find a cheaper alternative without sacrificing the awesome power :p I apologize in advance if I get a Sager/Clevo or something, you guys seem to be in a really nice lounge here. Thanks again for the advice!

    I ordered a GT70 with 90% glossy screen, samsung 840 ssd, win7 and a newly added wifi upgrade. I guess I would post pictures and benchmarks when I receive it. Also, as I always stick with glossy screen, I would post pics of my screen for those who hesitate between matte and glossy for reference.

    Yeah, i plan to do some posting. What sold me on the 770M version versus going for the full fledge flagship 780M version was the power consumption and the power supply being only 180 Watts. I don't really feel like having to mod something to truly make sure I have enough power for my needs at all times. A little OC will bring it to 680M levels for less power consumption, which is a good thing in my book. And I really only wanted a gaming machine to play EQ Next, or another MMO like Elder Scrolls Online, stuff that won't really demand the highest card to be enjoyed.

    I am getting mine from Xoticpc as well. I almost went Clevo/Sager, but its really about fan noise in why I went MSI. There is some reports that MSI's newest cooling solution helps quiet systems while Sager/Clevo tend to be louder. However, either machine is going to rock.

    Have a 256gb Samsung 840 pro as the only drive. I might add an mSATA in the future if I need more space.
    I ordered it with a clean install of windows 8, going through some setup and updating now.

    Initial impressions very good. I was concerned about fan noise and am happy that I can't hear the fan wile working with the desktop in a quiet room. The speakers are solid, far better than any laptops I've used previously. Planning to check the headphone output next.

    I measure 9.6 lbs for laptop + power brick.
    There is a one touch button on the dashboard to enable Cooler Boost, which fires up the fan to maximum. It gets very loud. Otherwise it's quiet. Downloading a game to play now.

    I ordered through xoticpc too. they do international shipping at a very good price, and this is my third purchase from them. I got an email few hours back stating that mine has shipped, cant wait!!! :D

    I feel you bro....:thumbsup:

    @paulnelson88

    Thanks for the screenies. One quick question : I see that your max temp for GPU is 72c, was this throughout the benchmarks? thats really cool you know.... The GT60 20D with 780M owner are reporting mostly 90c...... If this is true, I'm glad I went with GTX 770M

    p.s : thanks everyone for the input!

    I just found a offer for a GT60 barebones for the same price as the GT70, but I still winced when I chose the smaller size (a huge screen would be nice even if it was bulky...) This model however is the 780M version - a bit more expensive but will cost me about 1368 euro, not bad considering a MacBook Pro costs 1299 here in Germany (not a good comparison I know, but one of my old laptops) anyways thanks for everything, Hope all of you enjoy your epic gaming rigs when they arrive!

    So it looks like the 780m is about 50% faster.

    The 770m does have a lot more shader power than the 675mx. About 25% more.

    I have some plans to, maybe, upgrade to a GTX 780M, if the GTX 770M doesn't suffice for my need. But I highly doubt that because my current desktop, which has an 'old' HD 4870, does pretty well for what I do. But there are sometimes when I get very frustrated with it, playing some modern games. The GT60 20C is a big performance jump for me. Especially, since its my first SSD and the GPU is about 150% faster than my current desktop GPU. So, down the road, maybe I'll buy a GTX 780M separately if the need arises. Would be cool too to see 50% performance increase.

    I can get an MSI 2OC with 2x 128GB SSD + 750GB HDD for €1899. I still don't know if I should get this one, or an GT70 2OD Dragon Edition (it just looks so damn cool) for a stunning €2599 (but this is just so damn expensive).

    I am still on the fence.

    Reporting on the audio quality:

    Using the headphone jack to power my medium quality ($100 Sennheiser) 32 ohm headphones is surprisingly good. There is appropriate amplification for more demanding headphones. 10% volume level with my headphones is loud. I'm also having good results with the output quality for a 2.1 speaker system.

    The audio is very good with the standard Realtek HD audio manager. I chose to also install the Creative Sound Blaster Cinema software (which may come pre-installed on some systems). The creative software has matured significantly. The surround and crystalizer enhancements really improve the audio experience. I recommend installing the creative software from the drivers CD.

    When both headphones and external speakers are connected both are active simultaneously. Compared the the full creative audio software packaged with current desktop sound cards, the software for our laptops is simplified. We have surround, cystalizer, bass, smart volume, and dialog enhancement tabs. We do not have the "scout mode" gaming feature or the advanced options for capturing audio.

    The audio is significantly better than a $50 usb soundcard I used with my previous laptop, and is on par with the current generation of ($100+ price range) creative audio desktop sound cards, which are highly rated and much improved from their previous years products.

    Increasing vram clocks probably aren't going to raise 3dm11 720p scores that much because the benchmark isn't too bandwidth intensive to begin with. Have you tried the newer 3dmark?

    The 680m scores around 6100 gpu in 3dmark11 btw.

    I am considering this laptop versus the -2od because with this -2oc model I won't have as much or hopefully any 180w AC adapter headaches. I don't need the absolute best frame rates, resolutions, textures details turned up all the way. That's what a desktop is for! If I get this laptop I plan on (eventually(when cheap)) putting in the highest end Extreme chip that will be compatible. Hopefully Intel will release a couple more top end mobile Haswells before Broadwell comes along since Haswell clock-clock isn't all that much better than a Penryn X9100 in some aspects.
    Computer nerd/engineering guy, would be keeping the laptop busy with seti/folding@home when I'm not using it. I hope it can take it (it should). My Asus G50VT doesn't mind at all for years and years upwards of 90C on the GPU and CPU nearly 24/7.
    I really like these new MSI models, besides the AC adapter nonsense and the unperfect touchpad. Wonder how much I could sell my modded up old G50VT for...

    If your money allows it, definitely go for GT70 20D Dragon Edition. If it doesn't, get the 20D model. But again if you have to go lower, get the msata super raid 2 20C model.

    Thanks for sharing! Also, what do you think of the onboard dynaudio speakers? I plan to use headphones 90% of the time too, but just asking.

    @paulnelson88

    wow...... you're really pushing it LOL! great scores btw. but then again, real time gaming performance is what matters to me. if I can play the games I want at the settings I want, I'm happy, even if my benchmarks sucks. But thats just me. :p

    according to the pics paulnelson88 posted, GPU temps max around at 72c, which is very cool, as 85c is still within the safezone. Rest assured, these MSi machines do an excellent job at cooling, so no worries mate.

    Can I warm my cup of coffee please?

    No, but seriously, :nah: thats way too high. I have never heard of any MSi reaching that high on temps. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the MSi. Check out Gentechpc youtube channel. They have a video of the MSi GT60 20*, you'll get a good look.
