Oh, I just realized you replied to the older version of my message.
The "not recognized in nvflash" was really fixed just by uninstalling the drivers clean with DDU.

System is GT70 0NE, with modded 970m installed (so Ivy Bridge, now unhooked from the *.inf). I must say I got greedy, and did the mod to Prema v2 vBIOS (I hope he does not mind that much :)

I don't care as long as you don't post it. ENJOY! :)
Also make sure to re-flash to any other vBIOS before selling such card as by using this method the header is now bricked.

EDIT: HERE a proper mod version.

BTW, I had sent the OP a properly done MSI versions with "non-bricked" header a week ago to keep people from bricking their cards...

    Ha ha ha...

The files I sent him are simply clean MSI vBIOS with a correctly done header mod for your model.
I told him that he can even post it as his own achievement or do whatever he wants with it...
People using the OPs incomplete method with any file will brick the header and the factory will call me when they dump those cards and see my name in it...

I know this is offtopic but I wish you to have business with many other notebook manufactrers. When I see "Prema" name on somebody's laptop then I know that vBIOS support may be even better than BIOS support by OEM/ODM.

In your case it would be better to use a Prema vBIOS.
    It unlocks everything!

Could you tell me your BIOS and EC-FW?
Is this a Clevo GTX 970M?

You can ask Svet at MSI forum to help with modding the VBIOS for you if you want, however he takes donation (beer money) for his work.

I am experiencing an interesting issue.

I am spontaneously getting a Video_TDR_Failure on NVLDDMKM.SYS BSOD. I could be browsing the web or just messing around in the OS and the OS will notify me that the kernel mode driver has stopped but has recovered and then BSOD and reboot. Happens completely at random. I already re-installed windows 10 and installed the latest driver. Optimus is working, everything is normal.

I have a feeling it only happens when the webcam is enabled. If the webcam is disabled, it seems to never occur. Not sure what one has to do with the other.

    Any ideas?

I'm not experiencing any type of BSOD with new drivers.
In fact since I made the changes in my vBIOS and my system is plug and play, I don't remember the last time I got a BSOD.

But I don't let the webcam activated, so I can't tell you for sure if this the webcam is the problem.
Do you need the webcam activated all the time?

I dont remember the last time I used the webcam on this laptop, I just found it strange that if I leave it enabled the system will eventually BSOD. If I leave it disabled, it never happens. I am going on day 2 without a BSOD. All this computer has on it are drivers and firefox. I havent installed a single thing. I will give it another day and then activate the camera and see what happens. Its just a strange effect.

    He guys,

I am looking to take advantage of the free Win10 upgrade but I wanted to know if my GPU would still work and I could install the GPU driver properly.

I am using modded INF files (Omega provided it in another thread for version 359.06) currently on Win7 to get the Clevo GTX 970M working in my MS-1761 laptop (it's techically called FORCE 1761 as it came from XoticPC).
You guys are mentioning only Ivy Bridges. This machine is an i7-2630QM Sandy Bridge. Would this method still work? If it does would I need to change any values?

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can provide :)

Just for reference here is the EC/FW I've upgraded to previously:
    E1761IG6.30H
    1761EG61.405

    unnamed (1).png

edit: what's wrong with this screenshot?? why is it broken? In any case here it is: http://prntscr.com/bx6pgn

Been awhile since I've been here.

Are the bios files in post #2 just flash and go? Or do they need to be modified?

And what's the difference between .11 and the .13 versions for the 970m?

    Thanks,

    Super

Sorry to take so long to answer you!

Well let me see your device, it is under Details tab, Hardware IDs, copy or take a screenshot to me.
    It should be something like:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_11311462&REV_A1 (This is mine)
Maybe this mod can work with you too and you get free from modded GPU drivers.

The files on 2nd post are ready to go, it's just flash it.
I really don't know what is the difference between .11 and .13.
For my 980M one version show the memory and core clocks correctly (2F0079) and other doesn't (3E0001), give it a try.

Hi, thank you so much for your tutorial, it helped so much. I posted this method on Chinese forum and people found it to be really helpful, this is the link; http://www.cbber.com/thread-96358-1-1.html.

I have some question, some people wondering how these number work in terms of decimal? 62 14 31 11 from hex to 1131 in decimal simply doesn't work in that way? Some people wanna apply this method to GTX1060, we do know the DEVICE ID that we want to change to, but we don't know how to convert the decimal to "hex"?

Actually the number already is in hexadecimal, but the order is changed, bytes are in the Little Endian order (least significant byte first, indicative of Intel platforms) so 62 14 31 11 translates to 1462 (MSI Vendor ID) 1131 (GTX 980M Device ID).

To the GTX 1060, it can also works, but I don't know if there's a way to fix the checksum.
Up to now I haven't heard about a Pascal vBIOS Tweaker, so it would be necessary to recalculate the checksum manually.

About the device ID, for my GTX 980M I had to try every combination that was avaliable in the nvmii.inf file, there was 6 or 7 Devices IDs for the 980M, and only the 1131 worked with Optimus enabled in my Clevo board.

For the 1060 it will be necessary to check how many models are in the nvmii.inf file to try out each one BEFORE modding the vBIOS.

Let me know if I can help you on anything else.

What a coincidence! We actually know how to solve the problem you describe. Before we applied your method, we can actually make optimus work in GT60 with the device id of 110C(CLEVO), the way of doing it is here, http://www.cbber.com/thread-94106-1-1.html, it's in Chinese, but since we have a better way of solving this problem, I'm not going too much detail of this.

Also, other question, if you are using WIN10, you are definitely experiencing the optimus frozen problem right? Like the system will switch to dGPU in some certain application like just clicking the start menu, and the system will froze about 1 second, and switch back to integrated graphics card. We have a thread just about this in NVIDIA forum here https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/860554/geforce-mobile-gpus/windows-10-and-optimus/, however, NVIDIA doesn't seem to want to solve this problem. I'm wondering if you have any solution?

Now that you have talked about this behavior, I have it sometimes.
I thought was a problem in my system, but I can see that is a problem with the combination Win10 and Optimus.
I saw in that forum that M$ is aware about this issue and maybe the next version of Win10 will fix it.

Thanks for getting back to me DMTwo (and sorry that it took ME a while, I wasn't really monitoring this after a while)

So here are the Hardware IDs: http://prntscr.com/e16r4w

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D8&SUBSYS_110C10DE&REV_A1

Now I actually need to upgrade to Win10, no other choice, so I am really trying to find a solution to this.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

ps. I am happy to just mod the INF also if that would provide a more sure solution

You can try the ID 112D, try to mod the nvmii.inf file where you find the 112D replace it by 110C, also as your subvendor is recognized as 10DE, you also must replace the 1462 by 10DE.

I modded a INF file to you, this is the latest version right now (378.49).
If this modded INF work for you, a modded vBIOS will eliminate the need of modded INF files for future updates.

Try it and let me know the results, I hope it work fine, after that I can help you in the next steps.

I just came out a question if you would like to discuss, do you know if there is a way to output 4K from this this old GT60 with HM77? I don't expect a yes, but just by any chance if anyone figured out a way?
Also, the windows 10 optimus bug didn't get fixed on 15007 build, so bad :(

Before my GT60, I had a HP Envy with switchable GPUs, one integrate and one dedicated, the transition between them should be done before launching an application, if activated you couldn't change the GPU unless you quit the application was using it, there was also a blink (1-2s) when the GPUs got changed, probably the outputs were merged and you had to disable one to activate the other.
I was able to set an extended Desktop using two monitors as 1 big monitor (Eyefinity).

I lost this ability when I bought the GT60, and a long time ago, right after I got my 980M, I tried to set nVidia surround, I saw that the 980M could do it, but I wasn't able to set it.
After doing some research, I find out that Optimus had a different behavior, all the display connections are managed only by iGPU, the dGPU render screens and them send the image to iGPU to be displayed.

Let`s go back to your question about the maximum resolution.
The HD4000 present in the Ivy bridge officially supports resolutions up to 2560x1600 (60Hz) through DisplayPort and 1920x1600 (60Hz) throught HDMI.
It’s possible to set 3 independent displays, if 2 of them are connected by DisplayPort and one by VGA/HDMI/WiDi.
Unfortunately my GT60 uses a LVDS connector to the integrated screen, there`s a VGA and a HDMI output, so for me there`s no way to use 3 screens at the same time.

Check this information on this link -> http://www.intel.com/content/www/US/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005556.html

I saw some people that achieved other resolutions using custom options with Intel display manager, like 3840x2560 (29Hz), but this should be tested with your system, and also there’s a problem when you are working beyond the hardware limit, just like an overclock, it can be unstable and dangerous.

Commenting to keep this under my observation.

    Considering a 980M for my GT70.

The 680M, even though it is OC'd and OV'd, is starting to bottleneck my unlocked ES 3720QM at 4GHz.. Oh sad days

That GT60/70 series is hard to let go of. I haven't replaced mine yet either - it's still handling everything I can throw at it. I just got a thin and light to take with me when I travel if I don't need the horsepower.

Yes, I got my Lenovo Chromebook for the lightweight traveling/uni/online work. Nothing special.

My GT70 has everything I need, my GPU is the only bottleneck at this moment, I have considered either faster RAM or OC my RAM too but I can't seem to get stable 1866 so I just put it on a break.

I don't think OC'ing your RAM will help all that much. 2-3% maybe, but not worth replacing, IMO. More could help, depending on what you do with your system, but if you already have 16 GB it, you're pretty much good for most things. I even upgraded to a 3920XM in mine and in all honesty, I don't see that much of a difference over the 3630QM for most things I do. Going to a 970M/980M has been the biggest performance difference for me - well, that and a good SSD.

I am good with my SSD, the wear minuscule and if fits me.

Yeah cba to do anything with the memory tbh, my 3720QM is a Engineering Sample, so it is unlocked :p - but the GPU is crippling my system, I am at the very limit of how much I can push it.

Still debating whether to sell my 680M and buy a 980M or wait until the 680M dies on me and then purchase a 980M.

Yeah, it'll depend if it's still playing what you what at an acceptable rate and quality. I don't think you'll get much for it - maybe $100-200 USD at the most. It's up to you whether that's worth waiting a bit or not.

    Hello Fahad,

First, you must use a Modded NVFlash utility, which you can donwload from this link:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/nvflash-5-227-zip.133523/

Second, make sure your dGPU is active (orange light in your power button)
If necessary, disabe it thought Device manager.

Third, you need to give this command:
    nvflash -6 vbios.rom

Do these steps and let me know if you managed to update your vBIOS.

Because the card is still alive, it doesn't shut down, it just severely clocks down when idle.

    Hello Fahad,
Sorry for the delay to answer you.

I bet you are facing CPU throttling, this issue have a pretty simple solution.

First make sure about your CPU speed, I got these kind of issues when my CPU reached 1.2GHz, I suddenly had some slowdowns and right after the speed was stable for a couple of seconds.
Use HwInfo64 to collect this data, you will see when it happens.

If you have slowdowns right when your CPU goes on low clock, like in my case1.2GHz, so you need to stop CPU throttling.
You can do this with ThrotlleStop, this App saved my life.
Right after I took my new GPU I got the same issues, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what was happening to the system.

Check this thing and let me know what you got.

    3. 50X is MSI official. You need 51X (and new EC, can't say if 18T or 24T) which is by Svet I believe - 50X won't work with 980m.

You can flash the BIOS from within the BIOS itself.
Other methods are also available such as update within the OS.
