Remember that 15% more cores does not mean 15% more performance. :) Increases also are not exactly linear unless you increase just about everything, not only a single thing. You will see more of an increase with both stock, where memory bandwidth counts and where the extra shader cores are needed.

Even the desktop GTX670 vs GTX680 saw a very small performance difference which is where we find similar arquitectures of the 680m, 780m. Both OC'd should be withing very similar performance level, but on stock the 780m has the advantage.

So, what kind of boost are we looking at with the 780m and 680m when both are overclocked?

Well, in this particular MSI case, we will have a higher headroom with overclock due to the new feature of using both PSU and battery. Fully OC'd we should see GTX680 desktop performance from 780m or perhaps more.

No two GPUs are the same and they don't OC likewise. My max OC with 680m reached 7700 GPU score, which is what you sometimes find with 780m using boost. I am sure 780m will have a nice higher ceiling, probably an additional 15%.

So whats the new update aside from installing this beastly gpu on an msi gt60 nb? Any news on overclocking with the card and with new benches if there's any?

I believe so though you may need to flash the video bios to your system version to get the drivers to play ball, but it should always at least boot.

Thanks Meaker for the info... Btw. Anybody can give me a feedback if this heatsink is compatible with MSI GT60-one?

    9i5l.jpg

Can the heatsink (gpu and cpu) be attached with no modifications? I think the new heatsink design is more cooler than the stock heatsink though..

And will SV7L modded vbios do the trick? he got a generic one to all 780m users though.. But then again on the horizon is gtx 880m which on the other website they tested it with beta drivers and modded inf and the scores in 3dmark 11 is almost marginal to a gtx680 desktop. Hoping to hear any feedbacks thanks

I've asked this question a few times and it should be all right considering it's the same heatsink (I think?) but the bridge between which really helps idle temps. You don't need to mod anything surely. I'll be a posting a thread by late February showcasing new heatsink in my GT60 0NE :D

    @Saiyan

Thanks a lot! Please do post asap. I will save some $$ to get myself a 780m or 880m in the near future. I'll just hang on to using the internal hd 4000 of ivy bridge for the mean time though.. Btw does the cpu bracket fits on MSI GT60-one with those on the pic?

Here's the link to purchase the heatsink after you've confirmed that the CPU bracket will fit. Cheers.

All cpu heatsinks are cross compatible across the gt like design. It has not changed though so not much point changing unless you need one. The holes are the same so you can use the new.gpu heatsink with any.

    Hi guys ...

I've got a GT60 0NC with a GTX780M. Since I had constant frame crashes, I have Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip flashed from techinferno. The notebook but will not start now ... the post screen comes and there where right Dynaudio & Intel is running, a sequence-number ... 99 B4 92 and then the unit will remain standing and freezes at 92!

In the thread ( NVIDIA Kepler VBIOS mods - Overclocking Editions, modified clocks, voltage tweaks) there is extra, which should work on MSI cards ...

i have no other compatible device here. I only have a MS-16F2 barebone, which here is not compatible with the GTX780M. Furthermore, although I have lying around a MS-16F3 motherboard, which also went yesterday ... but today only flashes the power button when turning it, no idea why.

How can I fix the error now?

Take the GPU out and check your UEFI settings.

There is no UEFI settings in the Bios from the GT60. It comes with Windows 7, thats the reason, why i take the 30U biosversion. But i think, i can use the Windows 8 Bios 50X. But I'm not sure if I can flash the bios windows 8 device on a Windows 7, because MSI says explicitly that you can flash the Windows 8 Bios versions on Windows 8 devices.

Oh it's the earlier machine and you are moving to the 780M.

You need the .10p or .30p bios.
