    Hi,

I just bought a 24 inches Samsung TV, a logitech mouse and keyboard. I have plugged my laptop via HDMI to my TV. Windows is set to not turn off PC when lid is closed.

Basically, this is my setup :

    Problems :

    1. Wifi stops working (Speed around 1mbps) when lid is closed. Wifi adapter does the same too.
    2. Touchpad gets alive. The cursor moves sometime on its own.

    Solutions... :

    1. I must use a wire to plug my USB Wifi adapter as seen on the picture to make it work fine.... if it is too close of the PC it just die..
    2. Disable internal touchpad when mouse is plugged.

Did MSI miss that laptop sooo much??

Your router may be quite directional, does it have aerials out the back that you can adjust?

For the sake of cooling it's best to leave the lid open, you can disable the internal display if it's a distraction, once the external is unplugged it will automatically come back on.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I mostly use this computer for Programming and stuff like that but it is noted to open the lid when I run games. Right now, I can't even here the fan, the laptop stay cool pretty much all the time.

    About the router, I have a Sagem 2864 :

Lid open I have 30 mbps and lid closed I get like 1 mbps on Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test.

    Thanks

Remember that many laptops have the antennas routed into the lid. With it open the antenna "stands up" but with it closed it "lies down". That could make it harder to xmit/receive.

I don't know about the wifi issues (maybe updating Intel's and Killer's drivers to latest version?) or the touchpad (again latest drivers, firmware available on MSI's website and if that doesn'twork just FN+F3 to turn it off) but I can tell you that the GS70 is NOT designed to be closed when on or gaming! That's because that big grill just above your keyboard isn't a speaker grill but a cooling one! And if the screen is closed it will definately overheat and since it has a metal body (which is in contact with the screen when closed) and metal conducts heat quite nicely it can even damage your screen's finish or worse.

Didn't catch that part about the external adapter also dying with the lid closed. That is perplexing. . .

Try looking at your power profiles. It may be that the wireless system is being shut down when the lid closes, as a battery saving measure.

Also be aware that if you rotate the machine too much you will be blocking off the plastic window the machine transmits through with the metal chassis.

I might have solved the issue: In DEVICE MANAGER click on NETWORK ADAPTERS then select your wireless adapter, right click, select PROPERTIES and under POWER MANAGEMENT tab uncheck the box "ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THIS DEVICE TO SAVE POWER"

    Worked for me

It's usually a good idea to do that anyway. microsoft do get some "interesting" ideas when it comes to power management.

hi mate just reinstall your win ''clean win 8.1'' and don't install msi crapware and then go to power settings (right click on battery) power options pick any plan then go to change advanced power settings .. and make your changes in all plans .. I usually change balanced and high performance settings ..
There you will find even wifi settings..
disable crappy touch pad in right click on desktop then personalize then change mouse pointers then hardware and disable or just press fn key on keyboard + with key where is picture with crossed touchpad
Or you can wait for win 10 today or tmoz :)
