Appologize if there's been a post on this already which I didn't find after searching for like 10mins.

The problem: my gaming frame rate drops drastically once I unplug the power adaptor. It'll go back to full speed if I plug in the power adaptor.

I've tried win7 power settings and Nvidia's control panel (power management mode ->prefer maximum performance), but no effect.

    Anyone know a solution?

OS is Win7 Ux64. GPU is gtx570m. driver is nvidia 296.10.

    many thanks

The battery cannot supply enough power to fully power the 570M.
This happens on all gaming laptops, you should never expect to game on battery.

Yes, this is a topic covered many times. No real solution I am aware of. Considering the GPU's power requirement, a frame rate loss is understandable when unplugged. Just leave the unit plugged-in when seriously gaming and you'll be fine.

I see. so this is due to the power output limit of the battery. So the battery not only has a limit of how much energy it can store, but also a limit of how fast its stored energy can be drained (safely I guess).

    thanks

Yes, unfortunately this is the problem for those wanting gaming notebooks with serious hi-watt GPU's. With the new Optimus models, users can expect more time off the wire with 2D appz, but even then, plug that darn thing in while gaming.

Only gx660 with radeon 5870m / 6970m had option to not reducing power for gpu and fps was the same on battery or on ac power.
