Negative imon offset, not positive. and values over 31999 seem to reset to 0 and start over again.

May i ask you @Falkentyne and @hackness a question :
is this working the same, if you follow this or it's a different approach :
The ThrottleStop Guide -
What the IMON tweak actually does is that, it adds offset to the reported TDP, say if at full load you'll reach 70W, eventually when the 28 seconds limit is reached, it'll be brought down to 45W, but with IMON tweak, let's say you have an offset of -31999, the CPU will see 70W with an offset of -32W, which will be seen as 38W to the CPU, 38W is still less than the 45W limit, so the CPU will not activate the 45W limit.
DPTF looks interesting though. -
@hackeness Thank you so much for this information, i have try from several days to understand a bit more but was hard for me. I did ask on another topic, but someone has delete my questions and links on different post, i thought i did something wrong or agains the forum rules.
I need to find out witch way/tweaks gonna apply, the IMON or DPTF.hackness likes this. -
I did a bit of bios digging and currently I've found that MSI / Gigabyte / Razer has the DPTF set to off by default, but ASUS has it set to on by default. However, I cannot find any DPTF driver on Asus site under the driver page for that laptop, from this we can see that even though it is turned on by default for the Asus laptop, the support is incomplete from Asus. Not sure about other brand though.Last edited: Dec 13, 2018 -
he told me to delete DPTF because it was the reason of the throttling, on the Dell.
I couldn't find it on my pc, in any system32 file, or even in the drivers.
I will put back the throttle ini files, restart it, and make things in the bios tomorrow or this week end, hope won't mess up with it xD.hackness likes this. -
I am wondering wether this method would help me with my msi gf63 with the gtx1050ti maxq. The cpu is being constatly power limit throttled to 25w while gaming. Also, can i get that key combination to unlock the bios to follow the guide.

Should I delete xtu ? or just put the profile to "default", will it interfer with Throttlestop even default ? the things that i like in xtu is the graph.

Set CFG Lock to Disabled.
Will allow you to change the C state limit in Windows, so you don't need to go into BIOS if you want to change the C state limit.
C state limit is the highest C state allowed to go to.Avé César likes this. -
thx for the guide hackness
hey quick question. What does SGX actually do and should consider disabling it?. i thought it was a security measure against key logging or something. -
What I know about the SGX is that it creates an area called enclave in the virtual memory, which stores sensitive data which needs to be protected, to access those data the software needs to support SGX, when the data is transferred to other memory space it will be encrypted to prevent unwanted software to access it. It is mainly for enterprise use. -
@hackness Hi can you also please pm me the bios unlock key for the GS65? Question, will this also work in the P65 8RF Limited Editiion? Is the P65 and the GS65 using the same bios? Thank you.
-
It should work.
Unless MSI does it differently this time.
The P65's BIOS version number is different to the GS65 but the BIOS structure looks to be the same. -
thanks for the awesome guide @hackness, seeing improvements in my battery life. curious, do you set cores to 0% for battery and plugged in? or should i set it to 100% for plugged in for gaming performance?
thank you
-
But you'll see some temperature spike as some of the cores will shoot to 4.1GHz when other 4 cores are shutdown, if you prefer not to see so many temperature spikes, you can go for 100%, this will prevent the CPU from going past 3.9GHz on single core performance. -
Hi @hackness can you please pm me the unlock key for the GS65? I'd like to play around with the settings in the guide.

Im having some issues trying to get my multiplier down. So here is the scenario I have everything setup in throttlestop, my battery option in windows stays on the same one all the time. So my non turbo is set to 10 for 1ghz, but my problem is I cant get it to drop below 22x without changing to battery saver. I want to use the full spectrum from 1ghz to right around 3.9ghz. Any thoughts on this?
-
Could you also tell us which laptop are you using? -
Hey is it possible to use 4.1 ghz on all 6 cores ?
-
I have seen 1 person do 4.0GHz on all 6 on the GS65 but I wasn't able to replicate it. I can only get to 3.9 6 cores.

There is an overclock setting where you can set fixed ration but I have not played with it.

- Go into your Power Plan, and Build a new plan based on High Performance plan (Not the cancer slider pops up by clicking on the battery icon on the taskbar)
- In the new plan set minimum CPU usage to 0%, Maximum CPU usage to 100%.
- In ThrottleStop disable Turbo for the profile used for Battery mode, you can assign a profile for battery mode by going into Option.

How does everyone feel about making this a sticky? Is the guide developed enough that the community feels it can represent our first page?

Might as well but what about the combo code?
That's been a big sticking point because i dont know if this was fixed in the GT75VR (personally I don't think it is) but you could make all versions of the GT73VR / GT73EVR permanently black screen if you do a certain sequence of switching from dGPU->iGPU->dGPU after certain reboots, although the only 100% confirmed way EVERY time is to set spread spectrum to 0% and THEN do it.
And don't get me started on the IA AC/IA DC Loadline setting
But Paloesco's thread still works along with FPTW64Kevin@GenTechPC, ryzeki and hackness like this. -
- The ability to set the C-state in Windows - Explains the role of CFG Lock in the BIOS, nice to have since most articles online don't really explain what this option really mean for us.
- Unlock the minimum multiplier down to 8 in the Turbo Ratio Limits - I believe it's the first time someone has posted something like this.
- Make the way the Speed Shift to work as it should be - The relationship between Windows EPP and ThrottleStop EPP isn't well explained through the result available from the google search.

Will think about it a bit more, specially regarding the code to see what could be the best approach.

Front page updated.
Amendments:
- Specify whether the mod requires BIOS modding at the start of every chapter.
- Added Chapter 6: Limiting the number of cores allowed to activate during Battery mode.
Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
Added the following reminder to Chapter 2: Unlock the minimum multiplier down to 8 in the Turbo Ratio Limits.
- Please note that even-though the multipliers you have set are well below the Non-Turbo limit, you still need Turbo to be enable to work those multipliers.

@hackness found this very useful for Exporting and Importing .pow as well as renaming them and unlocking Ultra Performance under Windows 10 (I have not played with Ultimate Performance extensively YMMV - I did not find noticeable difference than in my current custom powerplan)
Importing/Exporting Powerplan
Renaming Powerplan
Deleting Power Plan
Unlocking Ultimate Performance power profile in Windows 10
What I do is backup all my .pow settings to OneDrive and upload after tweaking or reformatting.hackness likes this. -
I've also tried the Ultimate power plan last year when I started using Bitsum's Process Lasso Pro, came across that when I was reading on their article site.
I use their Lasso pro software mainly for auto memory trimming, force CPU affinity and priority, I/O Priority and memory priority for some programs I don't want to share that much resource to.
Nice piece of software they made. -

My powerplan for i7-8750h GTX 1070 aptly named "MSI GS65".
Contains some of your suggestions with my personally modified EPP and some of the power saving recommendations from -Che0063 power saving guide.
I will need to run the PCMark 8 battery benchmark again to see how it performs with all the tweaks again.

With all the tweaks you guys are making, its making me want to try some too... I suppose tweaking a power profile for maximum battery life would be interesting.

Has anyone figured out how to get static voltage settings to stick? I much prefer static voltage, as you can't be 100% sure the CPU isn't spitting errors otherwise.
I have a MSI GS65 with the 8750H and if I set static voltage, it lowers the voltage, but not to the number I set it to. There is also a ceiling on how low I can go before it stops having any effect. -
Can i get the combination for bios unlock. I have the msi gs65
