    Hi all,

I'm starting to have problems when I turn on the computer (only on cold boot).
The monitor wakes up, but shows nothing in the display, I can see only the back light and some flickers.
Bloq num and bloq mayus seems to be responsive, because when I press them the number/mayus indicator changes.
Wifi led is on and hdd led flickers.
If I try to plug another display when this problem at boot occurs, I am not able to see anything in the secondary screen.
The only solution I found its to turn off the laptop pressing the power button 5-6 seconds. After power on and off 2-3 times, finally turns on with the MSI logo and everything working fine.
Im afraid this problem can be worse with the time.

    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

Do you have the same issue with internal display?

The internal display is the problem.
Sometimes during cold boot display doesn't show any image, only back light noticeable.
I have to shut down 2-3 times until display works correctly.

Can you try updating the BIOS & EC firmware if you haven't done it yet?

    That's perfect for laser tag.

It doesn't sound like an LCD problem. Try Kevin's suggestion - it may even be a POST problem (hardware issue).

I have done it. And after doing that, I have manually reset the EC.

    Don't know why it happens.

I didn't mention that it only happens when I perform a cold boot.

If you're running Windows 10, have you disabled Fast Startup?

    Ok, let's try this instead.
    1. Back-up your data anyway.
    2. Do a system refresh (see below link for instructions).

    Thank you for your time.
Yesterday I performed a clean Windows 10 install.
It's still happening. I think is related to any driver (nVidia, chipset, etc) which is not working properly, but I can't know which one.

Maybe this weekend I'll try installing Windows 7 or 8.1 and see if the problem persist...

Do you still have the stock OS from MSI?

Can you perform a recovery using the stock image?

    Hi all.
Today I changed the bios to Legacy mode (instead UEFI) and did a cold boot 8 hours later.
It worked and the screen worked in the first boot.

Still not sure what happened. Maybe a Windows 10 issue?

Windows 10 is supposed to support UEFI just fine. Is it consistently booting with no problems now (in legacy mode)?

It always boot with no problems after the first boot. The first one (the cold boot) is the problematic.
I can't know if it is booting fine until I try it 2-3 days because of the time I have to wait to perform a really cold boot...

Do you have your laptop in UEFI mode or LEGACY? I solved my problem clean installing and going back to legacy mode.

Semi double post from the other thread but I have it in
    UEFI.
Earlier today I updated the mainboard bios with version
    E1785IMS.111
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT72VR-Dominator-Pro-6th-Gen-GTX-1070.html#down-bios

... Hours later and they are already updated to version E1785IMS.112 so I may try that too.
Anyways with E1785IMS.111 I waited 9 hours later for a 'cold' boot and I'm 1 for 1 with no issue. Obviously I need to try more but thats a good sign.

    "Fix the hang up issue."

Thank you MSI for being so eloquent.

lol hopefully the "Fix the hang up issue." is this issue that we are having. Anyways todays boot makes me 2/2 approximately 8 hours after I last shut down.

    Edit: 12/28
I'm 3 for 3 now on good cold boots, approx. 9 hours in between shutting down and starting up. So I'm thinking the new system bios fixed it :)

I had the same problem with my GT72VR Tobii-031, had trouble starting it from the very first boot out of the box. I tried everything in this thread including switching to Legacy mode in the BIOS and nothing seemed to work. I still had 20 days to return it so it went back to N*w*gg on the 6th. Hoping to get a new replacement with no issues.

Have you tried BIOS & EC update see if they help with the issue?
