    [GT72] SSD Drive Controller INITIALLY not seeing 1/2 of RAID

    Have my GT72 6QD with four SSD drives. Two 2280 in a RAID 0 (Boot drive) and two PCI NVME as distinct drives...

    Had my machine about 8 months ago start booting into the BIOS screen for awhile. Sometimes it would not see one of the PCI NVME drives, but boot all the way. But the most common situation was that it would not see 1/2 of the RAID combo and thus could not boot and go to BIOS. Thinking it was a drive issue, in January I reinstalled windows after doing any needed disk repairs (not really any). Seemed to work for a short time. But then about a month ago it started booting to BIOS again and this time it was always the second half of the RAID not showing in the drive list.

    AT ALL TIMES: If I keep hitting F10 and restarting, then eventually it will boot up to Windows and all will seemingly work fine.

    Then this last time, I starting getting weird errors inside of Windows, some crashes, and all signs seemed to point to a drive failure. No biggie, I've had the machine for three years, so I bought two brand new 2280s and did a full backup of the old drives, installed the new drives, setup RAID and reloaded the OS. Worked great for about week and then the same issue is happening. Boots to BIOS. F10 several times and eventually the machine comes up and runs just fine (as it is right now and I'm typing this on it).

    • Could it be outdated BIOS? Cannot seem to find the right BIOS to update as mine is still E1782IG6.10E dated 10/29/2015 and all the download ones are E1782IMG.xxx
    • Could it be the controller is failing or just has issues (that I can fix)? Controller driver? Replace the controller board?
    • Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to determine issues?

    Hate to keep sitting through a boot-F10-boot-F10 nuisance cycle if I don't have to.

    E1782IG6.10E bios is not a GT72-6QD bios as the 6QD doesn't have 2x NVME slots and 2 SATA m
    2 slots it only has 1 NVME slot and 2 SATA slots.

    Sounds like a drive failure to me within your raid.

    Nope on both counts.

    2 SATA + 2 NVME

    And not a drive failure. when it boots, Intel confirms all working normally. The only issue is at boot time and since drives are brand new, points to a controller issue.

    Can you right the daughter board part number down for me as I have the 3 slot daughter board not the 4 slot one.

    Also the daughter board is not the controller board, as the controller is on the main board as Intel RAID is software raid not hardware.

    Sure... when I have the case open I'll do that. This is actually a 6QE, not 6QD... when I bought it they'd just switched to the four slot.

    You know if the chipset is HM170 or CM236, if it's a CM236 chipset that's a GT72-6QF, if it's HM170 it's a GT72-6QD/QE

    CM236 allows for 2x NVME and 2x SATA whilst the HM170 only allows for 1x NVME and 2x SATA. After all it's how the PCH is setup that determines which one it is and how thing interconnect on the DMI.
