Thats actually not a bad price for that, only downfall is the processor, but it can be upgraded. I havent seen any cheaper, only one which was a refurb.
-
So the Canadian one is good too!
I checked the prices on a converter and the US one is off by $20 or so. -
-
Its still a good price for under $1000.00 Mid range gaming unit, upgradable, decent battery life.
-
Never said otherwise =P
-
So should I buy it from there
or do you have any other place in mind
-
It will only end up costing less if you can find it for <$700US so I don't think so.
-
Kk I'll keep searching
EDIT: I found one at Amazon. com but I think they ship to Canada so would be better if I bought one from U.S -
Amazon only ships to the US for computers.
You way want to wait some weeks so maybe it will be released in Canada.
Also, would MSI Canada service it or require you to ship it back to the US? -
Okay, and I don't know
-
For now there is no better card than the Mobility 4670. I guess for an upgrade you must wait for the Mobility 5670 or something like that in 1-2 years... -
Oh it's MXM II? I thought it was 3 since the TDP is higher than 25W. But then again, all the GF 98xx have 60+W TDP and they are MXM3 while I thought it was 35 the max.

New to this forum. I was considering buying the ASUS N81Vg-X1 for portability and gaming when I found out about the EX625. I'm on the cusp of buying it from Newegg, but wanted to ask current owners about their personal experiences with the EX625's portability, such as experiences with it on board flights, terminals, it's weight, etc.
Also, I am dying to know the actual real physical dimensions of this laptop as a previous post indicated the stats on Newegg were wrong. I checked at MSI's site and Newegg uses the same stats. So what are the real physical dimensions of this laptop (in inches)? -
its a average sized 15.4" notebook... i used to take a 15" with me on flights and stuff but imo its a bit to big, i have a 12" i take with me now and its much easier. the 15" is still very portable but is leaning towards the larger size for travel. i take it with me anywhere locally just not on flights or to the hotel etc anymore
-
I like to do some gaming while on the road both in the air and on ground, so a netbook will not fit the bill. I've got an old 14.1 inch compaq presario laptop which has been ok for road travel and MS Office apps but garbage for gaming (it can barely run CS1 or DOD1 and dies on Oblivion). Hence, my question regarding the size and portability.
-
Well, using geometry, images from newegg, and microsoft paint to count pixels,....
A 16" 16:9 screen has to be 13.95" wide
The width of the screen in the picture is 409 pixels,
That's 29.33 pixels per inch
The width of the lid is 430 pixels,
That's 14.66 inches wide
Same calcs for height (ends up being 29.19 pixels per inch - screen tilt) give a height of 9.59 inches.
Note these calculations are just for the lid, not the whole laptop, but looking at the numbers, I think it's safe to say that the specs are exactly 1 inch off in width due to a typo, and I'd trust everything else... SO
14.66" x 9.68" x 1.4-1.63" -
So the CPU is upgradeable in this laptop? i actually purchased this thing like two days ago just waiting for it to be shipped in. i was interested in buying the GX630 but im glad i didnt. for this being a cheaper price the 3dmark for CPU and GPU both seem to be better then the GX630 so in my opinion this laptop is a major steal considering newegg is selling it for 100 dollars cheaper!!!. so what CPU's could you put in this laptop that would perform better then the original
-
Yes its a great laptop with a good GPU, A P8600 or higher would do fine.
-
so if i were to purchase a P8600 off newegg. i could simply remove my old cpu and place the new one in? no need for new heat sink or anything. im not very familiar with laptops. sorry i know i probably sound very noobish lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111009&Tpk=Intel Core 2 Duo P8600
-
and i was considering buying some OCZ ram, but is there any real need to upgrade the ram from the ram that comes with the laptop originally
-
There's already 4 gig in there, no need to upgrade! You can't even really "upgrade"
-
Anyone wavering over this machine, Newegg has it for $700 after rebate now. This is an absolute steal now for the price. Nothing within $199 of this price (until the g50vt-x1/5) comes close to matching it.
-
I failed my saving throw and ordered mine last night from Newegg. After searching for over 2 months to replace my 4 year old compaq laptop this clearly appears to be the best bang for the buck out there.
-
I agree, the 4670 is a very decent card. best of luck to those who ordered one!!
-
-
How much worse performance would I get from the processor in this laptop compared to, say, a P8600 (2.4GHz)? And what type of gaming performance should be expected from the 4670 combined with that CPU (how well would it run Crysis, World in Conflict since that's more processor-intensive, what type of 3dmark06 score, etc.)?
A few other things just reading the reviews on Newegg and reading through this thread as well - does it have a turbo button like the G series (wishful thinking), is the HDD 5400 or 7200 rpm, and does it have a button to turn the volume up and down?
The EX625 looks like a great laptop for a really cheap price ($699 holy crap), and I've thought about both the Sager NP8662 and the MSI GT627...but if this can get somewhat decent performance for over half the price, then I might consider it. Not a big fan of the resolution or crappy processor, but I could deal with them. -
-
That's not bad at all on Very High...especially for $699. What about at native resolution (1366x768) on mostly High?
-
I would say medium high.
-
i want this laptop. looks very nice. any one have any gripes about it?
hows the lcd? i need decent brightness. been deeling with dells and they arnt too bright. -
the NBC test says:
average brightness is about ~ 190 cd/m²
contrast ~ 187:1 -
Hi,
I have a couple of question about this laptop:
1) The MSI web site lists it as Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology
http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=98
But In the newegg site it dose not appear as Centrino® 2.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152108
Is it Centrino® 2?
2)Has any one installed Win XP on this laptop?
Thank you. -
Yes Its Centrino 2 technology, Not sure about XP..

Here's a cheap blu-ray that will work..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=330329333158 -
for me, I think P7350 is good enough, since i am not an extreme gamer, basically only game still playing is dota. Other than that, not interest.
And i am using old body P M 1.60 Ghz. -_- I mean, p7350 seems to be extremely fast to me~~ -
Does it fit in a 15.4'' backpack? I wouldn't imagine it to be larger than my c90s with the fan.
-
is newegg the best price for this latop? 699 after 50 dollar rebate.
-
Yes, newegg is cheapest.
A 15.4" bag may be a stretch. I know the Asus G50vt didn't fit into my 15.4" bag and the EX625 is only .11 inch narrower. It would probably squeeze into SOME 15.4" bags, but not all, and not comfortably. -
Just looked at the dimensions, all smaller than my C90S except the length so it should be okay.
-
Dimensions listed are wrong unless they've been changed. Width is 14.66" not 13.66". It is impossible to fit a 16" 16:9 screen into that width.
-
So
14.66" x 9.68" x 1.4-1.63"?
My C90S is
14.4 x 10.5 x 1.3~1.7 -
Has Anyone upgraded to Vista 64 bit with this laptop and been successfull with driver and hardware updates?
-
I was wondering how a 16" laptop had a smaller footprint than most 15.4" laptops.
If someone out who has this laptop can actually measure and confirm the dimensions it would be greatly appreciated.
Both Newegg and the MSI website both have the same exact dimensions. This laptop looks like to much of a great deal to bypass, I was considering getting the ASUS X-5 from BB but was disgusted with the lightning bolt design on the lid ( just not my style and was much bigger than I wanted).
If the dimensions listed by Newegg and MSI are wrong I will be a little mad, looking for a secondary "gaming" laptop that is smaller than most others.
Any help straightening out and confirming the dimensions will go a long way of determining which laptop I get next. -
Check back to page 12 of this thread. Add one inch to the width and trust everything else.
-
Quick question for those who have purchased this laptop; does the DVD burner support double layer DVD read/write. Couldn't find out definitively on MSI site.
-
Got my new EX625 last night. I am initially overwhelmed. What a sweet laptop! After the rebate on Newegg this thing is only $700.00, amazing! Some caveats before I give my initial impressions. My wife still uses our 2002 Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop for work. I have not bought a new laptop since 2005, which was a 14.1-inch Compaq Presario v2413. So these laptops are basically my baseline for my initial impressions.
I should mention that Ive been hunting for an inexpensive travel worthy gaming laptop for the last 2 months. I loved the specs and price on the Asus G50 at Best Buy but it was far too ugly, heavy, hot, and not travel worthy for my attention. I then had my eyes set on an Asus N81Vg-X1 with the Nvidia GT 120m but that was $999.00 at Newegg, so, it was really hard to justify that cost. Then I stumbled on this beauty for between $200-$300 cheaper.
In a nutshell here are my initial impressions (have not loaded any games on it, yet):
- Very portable and light; the exact dimensions are 14.5 inches by 9.75 inches and even lighter then my smaller Presario which has a long life battery extending out the back. Ive got a large Targus PC backpack so it will not be an issue carrying this baby around;
- Screen looks great;
- Boots up quickly after Vista is setup, seems to run very fast while working with the various windows apps;
- Appears to run quite cool and the fan runs all the time but hardly noticeable (again without any gaming stress test);
- Took forever to setup vista upon first boot, bleh;
- Stupid, extra partition; Primary partition was 49GB and secondary was the remainder. I dont understand why this is done. I deleted the secondary partition and extended the primary to take up all the drive. I may shrink the primary again and setup a dual boot either with XP or Linux.
- Driver CD comes with vista 32 and 64 drivers, as well as XP drivers! Hooray!
- Comes with 2 blank DVDs to make your recovery discs, so be sure to do that right away;
- Too many ports on the right side, I wish there were more on the backside, but its a minor gripe. I was concerned about the power connector being on the right side but the connector is L shaped which really helps.
- Previous posters here and on Newegg mentioned bloatware. Sorry, personally I dont see it. It does come with Trial versions of MS Office, Norton Internet Security and also asks if you want to install Windows Live components, but compared to when I got my 7 year old Dell Inspiron it is significantly less bloated. Besides you can always easily uninstall that and more with PC decrapifier.
Also, there were some questions raised about the build quality. Frankly, I don't see it. The build quality to me, is excellent. Feels quite sturdy and I poked and pushed down on the areas previous reviews and comments called into question and I just did not see any issue.
Also, the control key and function key swap around is goofy so I will use a key swapping utility to fix that problem. Again, this is a minor issue to me and easily corrected. But I use the control key quite a lot in my shooter games so it's important to have it in the right location.
Whenever I get around to running some games, Ill post my impressions. Not too much into the frames per second deal, I want to know if a game is playable and still looks good as a straight up player. I mainly play HL Source games, Fallout3, Oblivion, COD4, Gal Civ2, and Civ IV. This baby should be able to handle these with ease. -
Congrats on your new EX625. I am glad to see you like it.. The games you mentioned should play flawlessly on that machine, Good luck with your new laptop
-
I can confirm that the DVD Super Multi Drive is DVD -/+ R Dual Layer read write capable according to the dvd property information off the Ulead Burn. Now software on the laptop.
-
Thanks alot Mighty, wasn't a deal breaker; but you just made up my mind. Thanks, I should have mine sometime next week.
