Hey, I got the Sli-009 version a few weeks ago and I opened up speccy and it's listing the ram at 798 MHz. Is laptop ram supposed to be that slow?

Yes the ram is DDR as in double data rate so this is normal and accurate. for 1600mhz ram.

I'm looking to purchase the GT80-009 from xoticpc.com. I have a few questions for you guys. Is the copper cooling upgrade worth it? If you are unfamiliar they offer a service to up the amount of copper surface area for $89(I think). Also how well does the numpad/track pad work? Not sure how I feel about not having the tactile feedback of a mechanical numpad. If these things have already been addressed I apologize. Kinda new to the whole forum thing.

I haven't seen them try and prove any gains with it so I would save my money. Just my .02, just purchase the gt80 and enjoy using it.

I have been playing on my GT80-009 for a few weeks now, but filled up my ssd's already. I know GTVEVO mentioned upgrading already. Can anyone recommend a pair of 500gb ssd that is known to plug and play with our system? Also, how was the install, any issues? Also, did you just use a tower to transfer over system files onto the new drives? Any other new upgrades people have done to the GT80 yet? I do not see anything else needing to be changed yet. I am putting my buddy's tower builds to shame with this laptop, awesome build. I am also planning on purchasing a monitor to enjoy all that this laptop pumps out to the fullest. Thanks in advance for any input.

Good reviews about the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2[1].
I would go with 25% over provisioning though.

Thanks for the quick reply, have you put these in a gt80 already? Newegg has some reasonably priced ones.

Also, for the lan/wlan issue: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178064.0

It seems the Killer Cleaner has been removed off their site... anyone find a trusted link to download this elsewhere?

Agreed, the Samsung SSD's are nice...... just make sure you choose SATA M.2 SSD's. As to selecting the SSD's right for you, I'd suggest sites like Newegg, as a good place to start for reviews and pricing. As to "How To's", there are loads of tutorials both in the forums, and sites like YouTube. As such, I'll give a short version:

    1. If you wish to transfer your existing system 'as is', create a system image with software such as Acronis. You will find tutorials on their website.
    2. Install your new SSD's..... you can install up to 4 in the GT80, increasing more capacity (if you choose RAID0), and increasing read/write times significantly.
    3. Boot, and hit 'CTRL-I' to enter the Intel RAID management..... then create the RAID array of your newly installed SSD's. Re-boot, entering the system bios, and insure you have the proper SATA settings, found in THIS video.
    4. Using Acronis, restore your back-up system image to your new RAID drive.

Re-Boot, and everything should be as it was..... Easy-Peasy...... except now you have much more primary storage capacity. To save primary storage space, you can also reassign your 'Libraries' (Documents, Videos, Pictures, and Music) to your secondary HDD, as SSD speeds are really not needed for these.

    Enjoy!

    :)

I have a copy of KillerCleaner_64-bit.exe, but I will need to upload it to a host server if you really need it. Another alternative would be an advanced uninstaller, which will remove all remnants from the system registry..... such as the free tool available from IOBit.

    :)

Thanks for all the help guys, I will be shopping around for the SSD 850 EVO's. As for the Killer Cleaner, I will keep searching online. There has to be a link floating around somewhere, I am just hoping I can find one on a trusted site. Have most of you worried about removing the Killer software suite on the GT80s?

    Hello everybody!
I read all this discussion: you convinced me to but MSI GT80.
Now I need your help please.
Due to budget constrains I have to consider all the available options.
    1. Should I consider an used one (4 months usage) since I don't have any references on the seller (for 1000 Euro less)?
    2. What should I verify on it? It's a MSI Gaming Notebook GT80-2QES32SR351BW [i7-4980HQ / 32GB RAM / 1 Tb HDD 4x128 SSD / 2x GTX 980M / Win8.1] sold in Germany. What should I check once I have the opportunity to test it before buying?
    3. Please provide me the best algorithm to test it and the necessary tools I should use.
Many thanks for your understanding and kind cooperation.

That almost sounds too good to be true, but it will be a heck of a deal if it works out!
I would personally want to open it up for an ease of mind, also power it up and spend some time on it to make sure there are no issues. Unless he completely abused it, I wouldn't suspect any issues since it just released a few months ago.

I had the same option and chose to buy new. Anyone could have tried to overclock it improperly, overheated it terribly.. hoping an unsuspecting buyer wouldn't put it through the ropes and notice. Why would anyone ever sell one of these anyway?
Maybe his wife made life so horrible after his purchase that he has to make up the money and give up his dream, lol

Quick update, found the Killer Cleaner exe on OpenDrivers. Although, I never did experience the issues from the Killer Suit like others said.

As far as upgrading the SSD's, I am looking to pull the trigger on:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...olid_state_single_unit-_-20-147-399-_-Product

Anyone purchase these same SSDs? Should replace the Kingston drives no problem. I am thinking of using Acronis True Image to create the new drives.

    To Confirm...

If you buy a Korean 2560x1440 ips/pls monitor..with only a Dvi-d input...the GT80 mini displayport can be converted to a Dual Dvi-d active signal with a active adapter

I use an expensive Apple minidisplayport to Dual DVI active adapter with built in Usb power to make it happen. There are others but Apple has good reviews. The monitor overclocks like it should.

Many say this wont work but that is likely because they used the cheap "passive adapters".
Many of the other adapters (startech, etc) seem to fail within a year..but with the Apple 1 year warrant, im hoping to avoid that problem ;)

Finally got my 009 and it is grand!

I am having an issue with the audio though. When I plug my headphones into the jack there's no pop-up and the built-in speakers still play unless I mute them through Windows, then sound comes from the cans. When I plug the 'phones into the mic jack I get the Realtek pop-up. I've installed and re-installed drivers. Is there a solution or is my headphone jack messed up?

When you plug in your headphones, do they appear as an option as a sound device? Check the sound bar and right click it, choose playback devices. If they do appear there, select them as default communications device.

After @ a week of re-installing OS & drivers I've realized the audio out jack shorted out or has a bad pin. There's no crackle when cans are inserted but there is with the mic jack.

I think it's a pin as I get perfect sound when I mute the audio thru Windows on the speaker icon. The headphones don' t register in Realtek or in Win so it must be a pin. Not worth an RMA unless it gets worse.

Otherwise... what a fine machine! Playing GTA V maxed out! Minimum fps in the Rome: Total War II bench was 88.2! Great screen and temps are manageable tho' GPU 2 gets a bit warmer than the master card.

Would you recommend downgrading to windows 7 for older game support?
I have heard that there is many older games won't run on windows 8 and windows 7 seems to be the best of both worlds allowing you a modern os with newer features without losing access to older games.

Gaming would obviously be my main reason for getting this laptop and i play old games as much as newer games.

Secondly does installing windows 7 cause any problems with updates such as msi not supporting windows 7 with their utilities and i will still be able to update the bios , vbios and other things without issue?

I wouldn't recommend downgrading to windows 7 personally. I use win xp, 7 and 8.1 frequently due to the different laptops I use for work and personal. Simply put, unless you have very specific needs, don't downgrade.

What old games are you looking forward to play? You can research their compatibility with current windows. While PC does allow for a wide range of games to be played, with a compatibility that spans several years and generations, it does have its limits.

I suppose you could dual boot OSs?

having an issue with my system now. For some reason the num pad wont light up. I keep tapping the 'num' on the touch pad and nothing. It was just working before! Any idea as to which driver controls this?

EDIT: fixed it, re-installed the touch pad drivers

Is it just me..or is the GT80 screen really good? I am more in love with it every day. Gaming at 89 hz is so smooth! i've tried many monitors and it keeps coming back to the fact that the laptop screen is all I need.

Its like 118 DPI. i've tried Quinx 1440p at 27" which is 109 DPI.

Im at 89hz. I can't remember if I was too scared to go higher or if thats all I got out of it. Now that im not so nervous and have had it a few weeks I think i'll try again. 96hz would be ideal for video

awesome, only issue with 96hz is keeping the games minimum frame rate that high so you don't get vsync stutter

Hello, I bought GT 80 Titan-001 around 30 days ago from xoticpc. Today I spot dead pixel (one bright pixel) top-left of the screen. It's really annoying. What should I do for fixing this issue? I really feel bad about it.

I have one bad pixel as well. it's green so apparently it's just stuck. Im waiting forit to go away over time and i might use a stuck pixel fixer screen saver.
I read that if its green blue or red that its stuck. If its black or white it's dead.
Either way, MsI says one dead pixel is standard and considered ok. :(

Good luck! Btw, it's doesnt bother me so bad anymore

It started yesterday, at around 30 days ago I bought. It is white-bright pixel. I hope they fix it or it will be disappear by itself. Around $3200 and 1 month later 1 dead pixel, I feel bad about it.

Yep, and possibly even higher. I haven't tried pushing my luck further though. Or I don't remember haha. All I know is that it accepted 96hz immediately

Yep, I used increments of 24hz, to ensure compatibility with video, and even 60fps. Even with vsync ON, my fps do not tank that much, and I can maintain very good smoothness between 60 and 96fps.

Sometimes I have a hard time pushing 96fps, but I have noticed it tends to be an issue with the game itself, because not always is my CPU and GPU utilized to the max.

Ryzeki! I own a LG 8500 tv also and I hope I may ask you.. Would my GT70 with the gtx 870m theoretically run the LG at full 4:4:4 4k@60hz when the active adapters come out for the DP to HDMI 2.0?

Thanks Kevin. Is it an absolute that a 4k displayport 1.2 monitor would run at those specs? Is that a standard with our laptops with the 1.2 port? This has been driving me nuts with all the hours of searching!

Some stuff we see how they are on paper, but with all these conversion and spec from another device, plus compatibility. I'd say it's all about approximation.
I would just buy the items myself and give it a shot.

Hello Dan.Hansen! Well display port supposedly runs at such settings right now and i don't thing it would have issues driving 4k at 4:4:4 per specification. It has the bandwidth.

Right now you can push 4k at 60hz via chroma subsampling with HDMI 1.4 but i'm not sure if its only for 900m series. I tried it and it works but only partially heh.

The only theory or doubtful thing so far for me is the existence or future creation of an active DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter. I've been waiting a while for it and still nothing suggests its existence.

Now, you should drive the screen, but for gaming i must say nope hahaha. It is incredibly taxing.

Hey Ryzeki, yes indeed the 1.4 HDMI is seeming ok for movies since it falls into place with playback ability. With the HDMI connection can I revert to 1080p @ 60hz for gaming for now? Ive yet to experiment until i find a proper cable. Arrrrg taxing hah.

I set my monitor to 90hz and it has been working perfect so far. Im tempted to shoot for 120hz. I wonder if the picture quality suffers from an overclocked refresh rate.

How are you guys verifying that games are running at the set overclocked refresh rate? The only reason I ask is when I setup a custom resolution to 96hz the vsync still stated 60fps through fraps and I didn't notice any improvement?
