Hey folks new to the group, just got my GT80 this week! Just curious, on the MSI dragon gaming application does it really matter what the settings are (max performance, green, etc..) if you are not running on battery power? Do these settings affect gaming performance while plugged in? Thanks in advance. Loving my new notebook (really more of a note-encyclopedia than a notebook...)

Got my titan today. Its beautiful!

The 002us version is just like the other 4820 processor versions. Comes with 8GB ram per 980m. Woohoo

Lotsa hamburgers up here in Ottawa!

This beast is pushing my 4k screen at 75hz. I didnt even think that was possible to have a pixel rate that high.

it's the acer B286hk. I dont think there are 4k monitors over 60hz yet.

If your pixel clock can go fast enough (gt80 titan seems to be good enough). Itll overclock higher than 60 with either cru or nvidia custom resolution. I find that cru lets me go higher with other monitors but I think some frames may be dropped.
Now I just use nvidia custom res and this 4k looks great at 75hz. It might go higher but I dont want to push it...and I doubt any games would have frame rates that high at 4k anyway though lol.
Tomorrow im going to see how high it will go at 1440p

Interesting... I tried the custom resolution unfortunately it balked for anything over 60Hz (even 61)

Hmm. My gt70 had a 880m and it wouldnt push the screen to 61hz at 4k

    But I could get 74hz at 1440 and 79 hz at 1080.

If you tried through nvidia, you could also try cru (if u didnt already)

Y'know what..this is for those people like me that dont overclock and tinker with laptop.

The GT80 cpu runs hot.(even the 4820) I got 87 degrees on battlefield 4 after twenty minutes of playing. This was without pressing the cooler boost button.

The gpu temps were low but im starting to think that running the cooler booster on demanding games may be the smart thing to do to protect the cpu.

Maybe some of the experts on here can succesfully do their cooling techniques but for the average guy like me......protecting the cpu and wearing headphones might be a safer bet.

If you can post some testing over at the url below. This will give you an idea of normal temps and performance to compare.

Noticed a strange thing after updating the latest VBIOS <Version-84.04.48.00.29> from MSI website in my GT80-009. Previously stock GPU Core clock was - 1038MHz but after updating the vbios, the default GPU clock reduced to 540MHz. Is this a problem with the current vbios or there is something else going on? Any help will be appreciated, also it will be great if someone can share the GPU-Z screenshot like below if updated to latest VBIOS. Thanks.

I have the GT80-009 and there is a void sticker on the bottom over one of the screws. If I break the sticker will that void the warranty?

Hello guys. I am a future GT80-009 buyer. I had a question regarding video outputs:

I have an older 30" Dell LCD monitor with native 2560x1600 resolution that I would like to output to as a main display when not traveling. This monitor has DL-DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort as video inputs. I know the GT80-009 has HDMI and two miniDisplayPorts as outputs. What would be the best interface to use for quality and performance for gaming? Should I stick with HDMI or would a miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable give me better quality?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry for the noob question.

It will not void your entire warranty, you will be held responsible if you damage something though. MSI confirmed this in their thread a while back. I always recommend to hold off within your vendor return period too.

Mine 009 shows the same in gpuz also with the same vbios so no worries.

I haven't noticed and gains or loss in performance either.

Mine did something similar when my gpu drivers crashed. It hasn't happened again, and I have even overclocked the GPUs etc.

If its constantly happening, you should definitely look into RMA.

EDIT: my post was regaring the previous pages' GPU issue. :)

I downloaded the vbios but I haven't updated yet. What clockspeed do you get when gaming? I wouldn't worry about what is being reported if you game at full speed :)

Display port is the way to go video wise :) it can push more than 4K at 60hz, while HDMI is limited in that regard due to bandwidth. Go with that :D

Even if using a miniDP to DP cable? Probably a dumb question, but converting from one interface to another has never been optimal. Does it matter in the case of miniDP to DP?

    Thx for replying btw.

Hello! I've had my Titan now for a couple weeks and I just noticed the other day that the battery is slowly discharging from 100% while being plugged in. Also I'm getting the plugged in not charging message on the battery icon. I've read through the comments about it but I'm still confused on what I can/need to do because i'll be really bummed if I got a faulty part.

You are not converting interface itself, they transmit signals under the displayport protocol :) that is why it is the best port, as displayport offers higher bandwidth than HDMI.

If you read through the comments you will find that this is a standard situation for any notebook, and that notebooks avoid overcharging the battery. This way, the laptop will not charge up again until it falls below 90% if I remember correctly. Depending on the manufacturer/Windows the value varies between 95 and 90% with the message "Plugged in, not charging"

Well this issue kept rearing it's ugly head even though I thought i'd solved it. Used Athero driver mentioned here http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...e2200-nic-into-qualcomm-athero-ar8161.198899/ and FINALLY I've got some stability. Before the change I kept getting the BSOD when I was downloading at ~8.00MB/sec for an extended period of time over the killer ethernet port. It was solid all day and I downloaded enough I feel comfortable saying it's fixed.

Worth a shot. Or should go over time if it's really burnt in but not too bad. Otherwise a new panel would be needed.

In the short time the GT80 has been available, I am a little reluctant that 'burn-in' is the issue. See if this helps......

    Test from Notebookcheck:

However, the review unit had a problem with another bug. After a certain period of inactivity, the desktop background was temporarily "burned" into the display. We do not deduct any points for this because we could not verify the phenomenon without a second device. MSI told us that they could not reproduce the problem.

In The German Review told Msi to install The new Nvidia Driver that would solve this Problem

Yes Michael1983, but 'temporary burn-in' is also refered to as 'Image Persistence', which is more likely in LCD screens. This is why I linked the article above..... Apple has posted a helpful tutorial for removing image persistence.

    Remove LCD image burn-in

I am not sure if this will help NiNoDuKEz, but it doesn't hurt to give him all the information we can.

Looking to pick up the SL001. I haven't seen this covered here yet, but how is couch gaming from your lap?
I currently play on a mac book pro 15 inch, where I have the mouse up on the arm of the couch, is something like that feasible with this monster?
    Thanks for any information.

I would recommend always configuring turning off your screen with periods of inactivity, for whatever reason :), or likewise, close your lid when not actively, there to turn off the screen.

    Hello everyone!!

I'm brand new to this website and this is by far the most expensive computer I've ever purchased in my life.

I receive my SLI-009, 32GB RAM, Dual 980s 16GB Video Memory, 512 SSD, 1 TB HDD in a few days. I ordered it off of Amazon from Computer Upgrade King. Does the bookbag and all the cool accessories come with it?

Also, is there anything I need to know about handling this beast of a laptop? I'm going on deployment soon and will be traveling a lot. I appreciated all the feedback. Thanks guys and gals.

This is important to mention, as you need to keep the underside of the laptop free of obstruction, to avoid higher than desired temperatures.

Great choice, I would probably suggest purchasing an upgraded backpack if you are doing quite a bit of travel to protect your investment. The backpack that comes with it is more of a light travel pack, several people have recommend the Everki Titian for heavy duty so something to think about.

Once you get your machine post up some numbers for us to study in the Test and tune thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-gt80-3dmark-scores-test-and-tune.773245/

Is backlight bleed a fault, or normal for all IPS displays?

I understand IPS backlight GLOW is normal, but in my opinion uneven backlight BLEED is a manufacturing defect due to an improperly fitted screen & bezel.

I've had to send back two GT72's because of dead pixels, a third one due to severe bleed & now I've upgraded to a GT80 hoping there'd be less backlight bleed problems. MSI has checked the GT80 before shipping it to me & they say it still has some bleeding.

So I asked if they could refund me as I don't want another laptop with backlight bleed.

They've refused to refund me because they say it's not a fault & all IPS laptops have the same problem. What?

If anyone is getting GTA V on PC, being released today, please post your experience and performance with the MSI GT80-009 or 001. I'm a future MSI GT80-009 buyer since I travel a lot for work, and need to upgrade my 10-year old desktop anyways. I will be getting GTA V on PC once I buy my GT80 in the next coming weeks, and I am interested and curious as to how it performs in its native 1080 screen and also in external higher resolution monitors. Just curious as to what to expect.

My external monitor is 2560x1600 native res. for reference.

    Thanks guys.

Which cooling pad do you use if you don't mind my asking? Would cooling pad's be recommended if I am potentially setting the laptop on a table for pretty much the entirety of it? I don't have any plans to use it on my lap too often if anything.

Also, this is for anyone in this thread to answer: Is MSI's warranty the same in Canada as it is in the States? I may consider picking one of these up this week... Also, how well would the 4720HQ hold up in terms of gaming for the next few years (3+?). I'm only well acquainted with desktop processors.

As another aside, I was looking into the ASUS G751JY laptop as well.. and it seems that the ASUS is heavier than this (GT80)?!

How is the cooling for everyone who owns this? how loud does it get under gaming? I plan to have the laptop plugged in for majority of operation as well.. is this advisable? I hope it is, as I don't want to kill the battery or anything.

I have definitely seen light bleed with IPS screens across different manufacturers, models, and even device types. My Tablet has, my phone has it, my GT80 has a bit of it. I think my TV has the least amount, proportionately. So I am not sure, but maybe it is a bit possible that all devices have a degree of light bleed.

But none of those is really an issue, because it is only affecting when using high brightness, on a low light ambient, which is something that I never user. my GT80 display is amazing, and I have only noticed the bleed when booting, because it is max brightness on a dark environment. No game, movie or anything has given me issues.

Hi everyone I just got my GT80 009 delivered and I'm so excited about this! Can anyone tell me which gpu driver should I install, the newest 350.12 Geforce driver from Nvidia's website or the Nvidia VGA driver 347.77 from MSI's website? This is because I heard some stories about GT80 only supporting drivers downloaded from MSI. Also I know that drivers can really affect gaming performance. Can anyone help me?

    Hello again guys!

Having problems with my digital numpad. There are times that my numpad doesn't turn on or switch to its digital numkeys. I already reinstalled the synaptics driver from the MSI website and it the problem is still there.

This problem happened after I installed a new update for nvidia gta V ready driver. The installation got stuck on a black screen and I got no other choice but to power off the laptop manually. After rebooting, the nvidia driver seem to have installed properly while my digital numpad won't turn on anymore. Anyone having the same problem with the numpad? thanks!

    EDIT:
I was able to fix it by rolling back my nvidia driver and reinstalling again my synaptics. Weird

I am unsure about the Warranty as I live in the states but MSI is global so I would assume the same but ask MSIGeno to be certain. As for the cooling pad I have the Targus HD3 ( http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Gaming...8957327&sr=8-3&keywords=18+laptop+cooling+pad) which I used on my Alienware 18. It is a very tight fit as the GT80 usually swallows most of it so its not ideal I would say. A flat surface such as a self made plank or cooling pad is only needed when you place your GT80 on a surface that would not allow proper ventilation from underneath the machine as the air intake is through the underneath so its very important to keep in mind before sitting it directly onto your lap or a couch/ottoman which could block the airflow and cause overheating.

No there is no need to mod the driver in any way. The only time I did mod drivers is when the overclocking was blocked (to unblock it)

Exactly, MSI don't mess around and make the standard set not work so you are good to go ;)

What type of network are you connected too, I have ran that same tool and seen very few spikes (more like a single spike). Nothing like your image shows.
