The thing is a beast, and it feels great while playing games. I tested it out with Far Cry 4 I think it was... Though I had a few beers in me I remember that I loved it. But I think that it is too big for me though I do like it. I am more about the baby GS30 lol.

Well so far no change on newegg release day. They report as having several of the 001 but no 009. What a bummer for us that pre ordered the 009.

We have heard the 009 may be a little later to ship then the 001, no exact dates or how much later though. Just that the 001 will be arriving first.

Yeah, seems the -001 SKU is available, yet the -009 has been delayed. No worries..... I think the -009 will be worth the wait, and it should be available soon. Besides, I am having Ken upgrade mine till it's fully loaded, so I have the patience.

Yeah, I think they prepared the 001 for reviews so they were more readily available while they finished producing the 009. I doubt it will take that much longer to wait :D and you will get a very powerful cpu hahaha :)

LOL you are so impatient! I would be the same way though, but I honestly also think that you need to just wait it out a bit. Since the CPU is soldered, I would personally spend the extra for the top model top CPU.

Then again the 4720HQ will probably have unlocked turbo bins and will likely clock to 4980HQ speeds or more easily.

Do you have any urgency to get the unit? The 009 will still have a stronger CPU, if that is what you were after all along. I'd say that if you already ordered/considered the high end version, might as well wait the days for it to ship. Sure you can do next day air, but once you have it, you can't change your CPU :)

Temps were great on it during benchmarks. However it was louder then the GT72 models, but thats fair given there are 2x 980M in it.

I'm wondering how MSI is justify such a price on this SKU of GT72 at this point.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4152687&cm_re=msi_gt72-_-34-152-687-_-Product

Sure it has 8gb more ram and 1TB SSD, but who the heck cares about 1TB of SSD. The GT80 is far superior as far as performance goes, yet its most loaded model is cheaper than this GT72.

GT80 also has a PLS vs TN on the GT72 if I'm not mistaken.

    @Geno, any response to that?

    All in good time.....

Yeah, everything I have been hearing has been outstanding, and I have been told, "You'll LOVE it"! From cooling, to performance, the gaming experience, the keyboard, the sound system..... all high praises. Considering the hardware, I expect higher temps and fan noise, and I have been told these are nicely managed, all things considered. Every notebook has it's critics and naysayers, but you have to look at the whole of things, and keep perspective. This notebook will not be for light-weights, will not be something you'll want to tote all day, and is essentially a gaming DTR...... GAMING being the operative word! Hence, the mechanical keyboard which has seen it share of criticism. In gaming sessions I can get pretty brutal with my DT keyboard, and now I can do so with my notebook..... with the same brutality, keystroke throw, and tactile feel. Undoubtedly we will hear the whining, 'It's too big'..... 'It's too heavy'.... 'It's too noisy'..... 'It's too expensive...... but again, perspective! It is what it is, will not be for everyone, and to accurately make comparisons, we need to look at other models, similarly equipped, and in the same class.

Besides, much of the naysaying often comes from the voice of jealousy. ;)

I am not going to pass judgments until I have run it though it's paces. SOON!

    :)

Exactly, I could not agree more!

    :)

Yeah, I'm in for a Titan. =) Being a keyboard snob, I carried around a mech board while traveling anyhow. This will save me the hassle. Not to mention upgrading from a P170HM/580m... should be pretty jarring, in a good way!

And I agree, I don't know how they can justify the prices on the higher-end gt72 SKUs anymore. It's craziness.

Actually this is an interesting point. Both do have IPS screens, but the difference is 1TB SSD and 32GB of ram vs 256GB SSD and 980m +1. I believe that GT72 might drop slightly in price?

Is anybody have any information about how the GPU upgrade thing is going to work? And any idea that rumor about CPU upgrade from Haswell to Broadwell? Is that a real thing? I thought the CPU is soldered,.

What they most likely mean is that next year or later GT80 series will be refreshed with new broadwell CPUs, as all models are refresh by year. This doesn't mean you will upgrade the CPU in your unit, but rather than a new GT will appear later with a new CPU. The CPU is soldered.

As for the GPU upgrades, since this time it is officially supported by MSI, they will most likely sell the "kits" of the GPU so you can buy them and upgrade your machine with a next gen GPU. Since the GPUs are still MXM, this means the GT80 will have a longer life and support.

Thanks, man. I think CPU won't be much of problem, it should work fine until the laptop retire. And what do you think the upgrade kits is going to cost? I have never bought this kind of laptop, I'm trying to find out is this worth for the money and insufficient mobility that I need to put in.

Depends on the cost of the card, probably not too dissimilar to current cards you can find.

    $400-500 for a x7x series GPU and $700-800 for a x8x series GPU.

Remember this is my own personal estimate based on current cards from around the web, MSI may charge more or less as may nvidia next generation.

HA, I'm just as impatient... often for the worse but I'd be tempted as well.

Are you planning to upgrade the GPU's in the future or just replace the laptop? Being we are at the end of life for Haswell, and Broadwell and Skylake are looming, I'd be tempted to save the cash and go with the 4720.... you should also gain a bit of thermal headroom for the GPU's as well being the CPU will be running a bit cooler.....

Just playing devil's advocate here ;)

In terms of the i7-4720 vs the i7-4980, my understanding from reading reviews on the gt72 series is that the performance between the i7-4710 and i7-4980 were not that far apart due to the 4710 being able to run at full turbo while the 4980 experienced some heat issues and so was not always running in turbo.

It'll be interesting to see if the cooling solution here mitigates that issue that the 4980 was reported to have in the gt72 series.

Apollo420, I got the call also and they let me know that model 009 was late arriving and its expected to arrive and ship to me on the 20th. But I canceled my order and went to the 001 simply because of hindsight. Bottom line is I paid a ton of money for the 4930mx on my AW18 and it was not worth it over the others. So I just felt I would be happier with the 4720 since I primary game, hopefully a bit less heat and it should have more overclock room if it's even needed. Also ram is cheap so value wise I felt it was a smarter option for me.

I honestly think the 4720 will be fine. It will most likely have a few unlocked turbo bins, and should have no issues at all.

    Agree 100%.

The GT80 is way too big for me, so I am holding out on a price adjustment on the GT72. I hope MSI realize the current price doesn't make much sense compare to GT80.

    Hey guys,

I am planning to order GT80 after a long debate on weather to wait for skylake or not, i figured if needed i could sell the laptop and get another if it turns to be a huge upgrade.

My question is would i be able to hook 2x 2560x1600 monitors to the GT80 using the miniDP to run at 60Hz? If possible, what kind of FPS should I expect by running WoW maxed out on one monitor and reguler internet/office work on the other monitor?

You should be able to easily hook up multiple monitors using the displayports it has. Those can go all the way to 4K at 60hz. HDMI is the only limited in that regard, going only to 4k at 30hz. But anyways, all video outs should work for you.

As for FPS, I don't know, maybe check online for 980m benchmarks with WoW, which should give you an idea.

Well going by some users with desktop GTX970 in SLI, they seem to be running the game maxed at even 4K, so I think you will be fine :)
