In addition, GT73VR laptop has CMOS on the other side of of motherboard under keyboard (if I recall correctly as it's been 2 months I changed the Ram) so If you stuck at black screen (after changes you might not be able to POST or reach BIOS) then you need disassemble manual for sure.

In some cases if you remove Hard drive or Ram Sticks (if you have more then 2 sticks), you may be able to reach the BIOS as BIOS detect change in hardware and boot up but if not then resetting the BIOS is The Only Option.

How to Rest Bios Check Here & Here

What display are most of you opting for - the 4k or the 120hz 1080p? For those of you that took the trade-in, how does either display compare to the 18.4" panel of the GT80 series?

I don't really want the heat or dual power bricks of the GT83, so I think I am going to trade into the GT73. I am just torn on which model to go with. I do mostly FPS gaming and development / photoshop work.

    Questions:
If you open the back cover - is it really voiding the warranty? I was thinking about the base model and just upgrading it myself, but I don't want to void a brand new warranty.

    Torn between the:
    GT73VR-003 16gb 128GBssd 120hz @ $700
    GT73VR-225 16gb NOssd 4K @ $700
GT73VR-201 64gb 1TBssd 120hz $1500 (this is where I'm leaning if popping the cover really voids the warranty).

Realistically, I want the super raid, but I really only need a 500gb SSD setup. I also only need 32gb ram.
There really isn't a middle option for me.

    @Kevin can tell you the different between GT80 & GT73VR Display/

I own GT73VR @ 120Hz and I mostly do FPS gaming (mostly offline) work in Photoshop and development (PHP & Android) and I love this machine, sometime I do both (2 external display connected), I mean gaming and work and I never notice that this laptop gets any slower.

No, MSI gives you the advantage to upgrade what ever you want and If you break anything, it will not covered in warranty and it's very easy to upgrade the Ram & Drives.

Buy Base model 128GB and 16GB, grab 512GB of intel SSD 600p (faster then Samsung OEM SM model and runs cooler) and Ram is Kingston Value Ram 2400Mhz Non ECC unbuffered, do the upgrade yourself.

6+FRC is usually listed as 8, I don't think software can detect this.

I have read it depends upon the country you live in but I cant verify this. If you are concerned you could always fill out a support ticket and ask if you are able to change out the drives. Years ago I filled out a ticket to ask that about my GT70 I didn't bother this time.

EDIT: The 120 Hz screen is beautiful, it's not quite as nice as the 27" 1440p 144Hz I have at home but its close.

I've RMA'd my GT80 twice with the warranty sticker broken. It wasn't a problem. They put a new sticker on each time, but breaking it again didn't matter. The tech told me as long as there isn't any physical damage they don't void warranties.

My GT80 has been rock solid and it goes back and forth to work with me daily. Its been a little rough to fly with, but aside from that, I couldn't ask for a better device.

I hope the new GT73VR's are solid, as well.

Hopefully Kevin replies. I am curious how the TN panel stacks against the GT80 screen.

For those who gets this model with pitching sound coming from CPU fan and wants to replace the fan instead sending it back to re-seller or RMA or for international buyers when you have to pay one way shipment cost where as the fan cost less

Do you use bitlocker or some other encryption that used the TPM? If so I hope you had a data backup. If not, don't worry about it.

Trusted Platform Module. Its required for some file encryption methods to generate encryption keys. Bitlocker is the only one I work with that needs it, but there may be more.

I don't use bitlocker. I thought that by clearing the TPM I would lose the windows 10 license. The reset is finished but I still have the problem with dragon center. I'm going to do a clean install of windows 10

So with taking this laptop apart, are the fans separate from the heatsinks? So can I tear down the laptop to get to the RAM slots under the keyboard WITHOUT removing the heatsinks? (Mainly I don't want to have to repaste the GPU and CPU.

I am both a GT80 owner as well as GT73 owner. The TN panel is actually better than the GT80 in general. Not that the GT80 is bad at all.

GT73's panel has better refresh rate, better response time, better/more vibrant colors. The downside would be that since it is TN it does not have better viewing angles, but I haven't found that to be an issue.

Not sure if it's native or not. It only shows as 8 bit in the control panel, compared to my GT80 that only shows 6bpc.

I distinctively remember seeing only 6bpc on the nvidia control panel, specially so when connecting to my external tv and testing to 4K etc. I had independent settings on each panel and I saw only 6bpc of the GT80.

Comparatively, the GT73 does show 8bpc, and unless I am being tricked by the colors themselves, it does appear to have more... color? than the GT80. I will test with identical images on both systems and see how it looks.

Yes fans are separate from heatsinks you can remove both CPU & GPU fans without removing heatsinks

    Blue for Fan screws
Red for Top Panel screws (I highlighted the screws as far I can remember as I disassemble it 2 months ago to upgrade the Ram)
Yellow are for cables you need to unplug.

Note: The motherboard is screwed to internal chassis but you may need to look for one or 2 screws there too. As I didn't have the disassembly guide so I was removing all those screws which I can think that It may be holding the Top panel.

Awesome thank you! I've seen some teardowns but it was never clear as they always stated you had to take everything apart to get to get under the keyboard but it appears that isn't completely true, just need to take most of it apart. That isn't too much worse than taking apart the GS60, just bigger and more screws.

No and I have asked MSI support for disassembly guide and they sent me a link but I was not able to find this model disassembly guide on that link and I again asked for disassembly guide for GT73VR and no reply from MSI till as we speak.

I have never fully understood the complaint about TN viewing angles. For almost every use these machines are bought for they are looked at from the "sweet" spot.

As a demonstration machine maybe..but that is a real small subset IMHO

I wish there was. I've looked everywhere. I'm going to have to take my bezel off and retape it. It's just getting worse. MSI kept it for a month and didn't help at all.

If I was drunk and falling over it may be an issue. Or if I had a couple friends sitting on each side it may be an issue. For me alone, it's no problem and I love the screen.

Ah, i've seen panels with terrible angles so the sweet spot has been narrow to the point either the top or the bottom suffers.

This is entirely NOT the case with GT73 though :) but since i do move the screen a lot and sit on different places, heights and different people, i simply noted that it had lower viwing sweet spot compared to IPS but again nothing bad at all. I prefer and will take the gt73 panel over the gt80 panel any day.

So I purchased a gt73vr 017(NVidia 1070) couple months ago while I was in US but I have not had the time to play with it. I've had issues when trying to OC,the system kept crashing with vertical lines and green screen. I have updates to the latest NVidia graphics, removed Dragon Center and I'm using Intel XTU to OC the CPU and MSI afterburner for the GPU and managed to keep it safe with CPU at 4.0ghz and GPU 150/300 without any crash and got 143xx scores in FireStrike with temps under 70c. Now i'm just using it with stock speeds as it does not need any OC as far as I am concerned with current games. I love the laptop and the only complaint I have are the bad drivers .

Welcome to the forums :) You managed quite nice overclocks in the end. Part of the difficulty of overclocking the GPU is how GPU Boost 3.0 works, as well as power limits. I've overclocked with both Dragon Center and MSI Afterburner, and it seems MSI After burner has had a better success at having overall higher clocks in my experience, but it is hard to repeat the experiment.

As for the CPU, I managed 4.2Ghz so far, but for normal use I keep it at 4Ghz which for me has been rock solid stable. Plus for the games I play, is enough :)

I agree. I think it's great just on the stock turbo setting. I've had it stable at 4.1 and good temps but can't seem to do 4.2.

Do you guys have svet bios? It should be able to go pretty high since the cooling system is excellent.

On my dinky bios and small Alienware 15R3 heatsink, 4.4 is possible with the right voltage.

    http://hwbot.org/submission/3388975...___r15_core_i7_6820hk_955_cb?recalculate=true

Also don't worry about cranking the vram up, on my 1070-samsung is possible to get 600+ with consistent positive net improvement in GPU performance.

Also does anyone know if you can use a Clevo 330w adapter and AC200 to feed 660w power to the GT73VR single GPU model that only come with single adapter?

So it would be combining MSi 330w adapter with Clevo 330w and using the Clevo AC-200 connector to bridge them.

Thanks for the info! I'm just about to fill out a support ticket to enquire if ok to open the case and so breaking the void sticker. I want to checkout and hopefully fix why the fans make a squeaking noise at 30% speed. Replacing fans with something better would be ideal. So are replacement fans available? If so where from? Could I ask MSI to send me replacements? Sending to MSI and waiting 5 weeks or longer without laptop is not acceptable.

Edit: just seen these fans (pabd19735bm) are available from some eBay merchants... although no not the N369 model :(

The symptom is normal when the specified overclocks aren't manageable by the GPU, it is not caused by driver.
You can do limited OC with stock VBIOS, but the best way is to flash an unlocked VBIOS which isn't available yet.

After I did a clean windows 10 installation, I still have issues with the fans curve in Dragon Center. I uninstalled it twice and it's keeping the same settings. Is there any way to uninstall it 100%?

Also - I noticed that my battery isn't charging past 92%. Is that a battery protection feature?

    Use this: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=255972.0

Download the skylake version. It's vastly superior to dragon centers fan settings.

Yes. The battery will charge upto 100%, let it discharge down to 90% and then charge it up again.

Also I have a new display profile for you guys! Reds are toned down just a tiny bit since that seemed to be the biggest complaint with my other one.

I tried the images, tried other pages, I can't trully say what I am supposed to see. In your link, I saw two fully gray squares, same color on top and bottom. Not sure what I am supposed to see there. On other tests, like this one:

    http://s4.photobucket.com/user/glacius_/media/Colourtest2.jpg.html

I can easily see all three colums, with their respective colors. Last one does look washed out, but you can easily distinguish red, green and blue, and all.

Is there a conclusive test we can perform to find out? All this points to me is that this is either true 8 bit, or 6 bit+something. So, not conclusive.
