I am starting this thread because I feel this series is noteworthy and deserves discussion. I loved my previous GT72 Dominator Pro, and to me it was my favorite 17" platform, but now I am WOW'ed by this new series. Not only do we see nice improvements and more frills, but LOOK at the choices amongst the SKU's..... from single 1070 and 1080 models, to SLI 1070's..... at considerable varying prices, in truth, any of these should game very nicely. If I were not committed to my GT83VR purchase, I'd certainly have my eye on one of these.
Check em' out!
The MSI GT73VR series......
And here is Ken's video review of the 1080 model..... Very Nice!
Enjoy!

I am currently looking at GT83VR 1070SLI or GT73VR 1070 SLI or GT73VR 1080
Any ideas on which of these 3 will have the highest performance ?Blue Hazard and hmscott like this. -

That's an excellent question..... not sure, but I'll see if I can get an answer soon. I thought G-Sync screens had to be certified as such, and I am not finding this in the promo material.

However, since the screen is already 120Hz @5ms, G-Sync or non-G-Sync won't really matters anymore.Spartan@HIDevolution, Badhand386, felix3650 and 3 others like this. -

It looks great; not a fan of the red trim on lid/rear; the 72 looked less blingy and preferable.
I'm kind of disappointed to see the HDMI is only 1.4, per the spec sheet I saw, making output to my 4k tv a nuisance still. I had hoped they'd fix this with pascal...
But, ya, depending on reviews, I've been waiting a year now and have my eyes on the single 1080/1080p model.hmscott likes this. -
Just got my GT73VR TITAN PRO-003 model in today and it does do G-Sync out of the box.

Only thing thats holding me back, is the g-sync verification. The GPU must be able to g-sync with a later SW update. -

Can the GT73VR switch between integrated and dedicated GPU like the GT72 could? I noticed there's a GPU function button on the right side, but none of the promotional material mentions it. Can this button be used to save battery? If so, how long is the battery?

It seems there's a specific "wrinkle" to be aware of when getting a laptop with a non-G-sync certified screen.
The BIOS needs to be aware of matching GPU's with screen, at the G-sync enablement level.
If your screen is non-G-sync, it will most likely be shipped with a non-Gsync GPU. This is due to the BIOS needing both devices to be G-sync enabled to work as expected.
A special BIOS would need to be made to match a non-Gsync certified display with a G-sync enabled GPU. And, that doesn't seem to be the case, the normal BIOS and a non-G-sync GPU will be matched with currently non-G-sync certified displays.
non-G-sync meaning the internal display G-sync support isn't available - the external monitor G-sync works for all Nvidia GPU's of this generation.
So be sure to get a fully G-sync enabled laptop, both display and GPU, or risk not having a G-sync enabled GPU.
Even if the display does get certified and a BIOS/vbios update enables G-sync for the display, your GPU may not be G-sync enabled and therefore not work as expected.
Verify all this with your seller before buying.
Or wait for the display to get certified, and the BIOS updated to reflect this, so you can get a fully G-sync enabled laptop at order time.Last edited: Aug 18, 2016 -
Another detail to be aware of, whichever model you get, make sure your particular unit actually has a 120hz screen before buying - which it looks like will be really tough to do without opening the box and powering on the laptop (see last response below):
MSI False Advertising GT72VR 120HZ Display
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-false-advertising-gt72vr-120hz-display.795077/
How do you enable 120hz refresh rate on MSI GT72VR (1070 laptop)?
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4y43ru/how_do_you_enable_120hz_refresh_rate_on_msi/
"Hello,
I bought the new GT72VR this evening, but I cannot find out how to turn on the 120hz refresh rate. The Nvidia Control Panel only shows 40hz and 60hz in the drop down menu, and I can't find anything in the MSI software, Windows, or in GeForce Experience/Control Panel. Is there something special I need to do? Otherwise MSI was completely lying about these things being 120hz."
"On MSI's website it says:
"17.3" Full HD (1920x1080), 120 Hz Refresh Rate and 5ms response time panel (Optional)"
I suppose (Optional) means there are versions of this laptop without the 120hz monitor? Maybe you bought the wrong one? Where did you buy it from?"
"I am about to buy the GT72VR. After some digging, I have come to the conclusion that there are 3 screen options: Normal, 120Hz and 4k. The problem is that I don't see how to identify them from the store product descriptions as none of them specify it, but I believe that at this moment they are all selling the normal one. I have contacted 2 stores and both said that they don't get that information from msi, so if you call msi please let us know what they tell you. It might be possible to identify the screen version by checking the full product code.
EDIT: I have called MSI and they have told me that all the GT72VR have the 120Hz screen. This might apply to just Spain."
So here's what they said: The cases all have generic stickers on it, and the 120hz feature has a little (optional) written under it in parentheses which means that the laptop doesn't necessarily have what's on the stickers and adverts. The support told me the website, their internal support team, the boxes and the computers themselves have no marking on whether or not this particular model actually does the advertised 120hz or not. He's going to call me back tomorrow to let me know definitively that my laptop doesn't have 120hz, and which product model markings 100% have the 120hz display."Last edited: Aug 18, 2016 -
So does the GT73VR have G-Sync or not ?
Can you use an external monitor with G-Sync with GT73VR as well or not ? -
https://us.msi.com/search/GT73VR/product/1
Then when you order, verify with the seller that the box they are shipping you says on it - on the detailed inventory sticker on the side of the box - that the display resolution is correct and that G-sync is indeed in the display description line.
If the specifications for the model / display you want doesn't say G-sync, it doesn't have G-sync -
-

But none of the 1080P 120hz model say they have g-sync but people say there is , people who got it already

Some boxes have stickers on them that say 120hz (optional), while the detailed inventory list doesn't show what's in the box.
You almost need to open the box and power on the unit to tell for sure.
At least that's how it is until someone can clear up how to identify what's in the box without opening it.
If the vendor product info page, or seller order info on the website doesn't say G-sync, then it's not G-sync enabled.
Before you buy it (pay for it), verify that the box they are shipping you says the display resolution/refresh you want.
And, make sure you have it in writing/email that the seller will take it back without restocking/shipping charges should it not have what you expect when you open the box and power it on. -
I would like to buy a GT73VR but I'll wait until MSI can clear up about G-Sync. Which is the best website to buy it? I saw that MSI has a free bundle called MSI Dragon Fever promotion when you purchase one of their laptops. Will I receive this free bundle?
The GT73VR will be my first gaming laptop

120hz + G-sync sounds nice
but we know that 1070 and 1080 is capable of running 4k games smooth
but i dont think the 4k panels get 120hz? i dont even know if something like that exist
1070/80 looks an overkill for 1080p screens
so prefering the 4k is better? or am i wrong -
Well from my point of view.
If you like to run everything on MAX.
1080 is just about right for 120hz screens because you need to keep the fps at stable 90+
If you are on 60hz screens then the 1080 is overkill
plus you buy the laptop for future proofing , you dont want to buy something barely good now to have games destroy it 1-2 years from now -

1070 is not maxing games at 4K. I'd stick to 1080p 120Hz with amazing IQ.

The first time you posted the image didn't show, broken image icon.
Then I refreshed the page a bunch of times, and the Thumbnail showed up.
I clicked on the Thumbnail, and I got an error page...
I did finally get to see the whole image, and yes it shows 120hz
Now I see a broken image icon again...don't see the Thumbnail - maybe only post full images for a while...GenTechPC and Miguel Pereira like this. -

Any word on battery? Does the GT73VR have graphics switching options like the GT72? I noticed that the GT73 has a GPU function button on the right that seems to allow you to toggle the GPU on and off. Does this work similarly to GT72? If so, do we know how much battery we can get from using that?
