Striker, what is the intended use behind the fanboost feature? Does it need to be activated when playing next gen AAA games developed using engines like cryengine 3 or unreal engine 4 at max settings? Or can the stock fan profile handle the cooling?

What are the temps like with Fanboost and without fanboost while playing a graphically demanding game?

The reason I am asking is that it gets really loud (66dB) when fanboost is activated, where as it has the lowest noise yield among the competition without this feature on (53dB for MSI vs 56dB for Asus G751).

I've seen the GentechPC out of the box benchmark video and I was disappointed after the boost button was pushed.

Great question and I also would love to hear more detailed impressions of fan noise when gaming/under load without Turbo Fan.

It does reduce the life expectancy of the monitor, but the things is that your laptop on average doesn't last longer then your screen so there really isn't something to be scared of.
Unless you expect to keep running at high framerates for 5-6 years(high usage)

Thanks - do you have any source on it reducing the life expectancy of the monitor? I've used my current MSI for a bit more than five years and would like it to be around the same for my next laptop.

I think THIS post sums it up nicely. With high performance, high-watt components, a balance of reduced fan noise with reasonable cooling, is generally an engineering challenge..... especially within the limited confines of a notebook chassis. With Maxwell's improved efficiency, and MSI's new fan design, I'd say the GT72 meets the challenge, and the stock fan profile is indeed, a nice balance. I intentionally do all of my benchmark and game testing, showing temps without the use of Cooler Booster, to demonstrate the performance users can expect, stock and 'Out-of-the-Box'. Cooler Booster is an optional feature, that ramps up the fan speeds 100%..... for users who want things to remain as cool as possible, or those stress testing components to their limits. But is Cooler Booster necessary in the GT72? Absolutely not!

Basically, this feature is a carry-over from the previous, single fan solution, GT70 series. Those users may have experienced temps reaching uncomfortable levels, and as such, felt inclined to use Cooler Booster. But this is not the case in the GT72, and I now consider this feature, wholly optional, if not unnecessary..... but it's always nice to have options, right?

    :)

That SKU looks almost the same as the previously listed GT72 2QE-243US, to wit, the model number was changed to GT72 2QE-444US at the last minute, when the IPS screen was added.

Since your link doesn't specify the IPS screen, take care, and double-check with the vendor.

which is better? the intel or killer networks wifi ?

    also:
    Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Dual Band Wireless-AC N1525 - 802.11 AC/A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth 4.0 | (2x2) - Default (SKU - WIFI74) <-stock choice
    Intel® Dual Band AC 7260 802.11 A/AC/B/G/N 2.4/5.0GHz + Bluetooth 4.0 [M.2 Chip] (SKU - WIFI90) <-- $49 more expensive

    Regards to aussie stock:

    Hi ****,

    Thanks for your enquiry.

I have contacted MSI about confirming this as their specs list says that this model doesn’t have the IPS panel.

However you are now the 2nd person to ask me this so I want to double check to make sure MSI Australia have the correct specs listed for this model.

I will get back to you shortly when they reply to me.

    Cheers

Putting in a different connector and doing the same I might agree but they left it in for easy upgrades by the user or reseller so i don't judge it harshly. The units got recalled for refitting so it would have delayed all machines to do so.

Have had this 970M GT72 for a couple days now, and I'm finding it so powerful it's disgusting. I'm running Assassin's Creed 4 maxed out and Crysis 3 on high at 40+ fps, with GPU temperature never exceeding 60 degrees (with re-pasting job) regardless of what I try to throw at it.
The surface of the laptop feels barely warm on load (and only around the speaker grill; everywhere the hands touch always stay cool), and the fans never become louder than a quiet drone. Granted some of my enthusiasm about cooling is due to switching from the thin GS70, but this is still impressive :D

I can imagine how you 980M people are enjoying things :)

I did some benchmarking but the physics score is alot lower then it is supposed to be.
Is there someone who could help me out and fix this problem?

Also got the 344.24 drivers from NVidia.
It is not the graphics score that i am worried about the physics score is whats bothering me.
If you look at your physics score its 9280 and mine 6998.

Again, did you change any system or benchmark settings? Is everything default, and did you run all Windows Updates? Try several runs, and perhaps other benchmarks too.

Everything is on default and did all windows updates did another run and got a total score of 7803.
Physics scores 7008 still about 2000 to short on your benchmark.
I did restart the laptop and waited 10 miniuts before running the benchmark.

What programs are you running in the background? 200 points is not much at all, and since you are most likely not using Intel XTU with extra turbo, then the score is fine. You shouldn't worry about it :)

Hahaha, and believe me I was doubting wether I should post it or not haha

I'd recommend reading some tutorials but this is definitely NOT a tool for beginners. Don't mess with anything you don't know, or you will get headaches when the laptop doesn't turn on, and all just to get 1 more frame persecond or 100 more points in a benchmark haha :)

If you just want to enable extra turbo, on the CPU Cores section there is a list of multipliers per 1, 2, 3 or 4 cores and it reads the multiplier as 32x, 34x etc etc. Simply move the slider or arrow to the max (which is 35x for HD4710HQ I think).

And that's it. When running in quad core, your CPU will run up to 3.5ghz on all cores.

Amen. Look at Asus G751. All the GTX 970M and 980M models have IPS and they range from sub $2000 to $2800 depending on the RAM and SSDs they come with.

MSi better have SKUs with less SSDs
