    Nope. 2400mt/s = 1200mhz aka 2400mhz ram.

I’m not exactly sure what the case is with ram. No idea why 2666 would be running at 2400. I will be contacting tech support to have this explained to me.

    Coil whine?

Could someone help confirm whether they get coil whine from their GS65? Here's a recording - heavily amplified (it's not really this high-pitched) - of the laptop with both fans at 0 RPM. I cannot hear it at all while the fans are on. I would describe it as a 'kinda-like-morse-code audible only in complete silence, or with your ear touching the middle of the keyboard'. It is reminiscent of a spinning hard drive in the distance.

If all GS65's do this, then I don't actually mind. If my GS65 is defective, then I'll go through the trouble of swapping it. Thanks for your help!

Finally got a chance to install CPU-Z. The specs on MSI's website says DDR4-2666 is supported but it looks like i need to get XMP enabled for it to work at that speed. I went back into the BIOS to double check but I don't see XMP anywhere. I sent MSI an email to see if there is anything I can do.

You ordered the DDR4/2666MHz Premium upgrade. MSI won't help. To correct whatever is going on, please contact our Tech Support Team using the instructions I emailed to you on May 17th.

"If you should ever need tech support or warranty service, please understand that I am not a technician, so it would be better to contact our Tech Support Team by phone at 888-666-3418 Extension 3, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or by Online Support Ticket at http://www.hidevolution.com/contacts/ (in the department dropdown menu select Zoltan S - Tech Support).

Please let me know if they don’t resolve your issue."

I don't think it's going to get resolved guys. They've never done it in the past. Maybe 2666, yes, because it's officially supported by Intel. But anything higher is going to require unlocking the bios.

Anyone having wifi issues? I have a router from Spectrum that has a 2g and 5g network. on the 5G, it suddenly disconnects periodically and when waking from sleep it seems to take a few minutes to connect to the network. Is this a killer issue or a router issue?

Anyone know how to turn off the adaptive brightness, the screen gets less bright when looking at a dark background. I've turned it off for Windows but i suspect it's SCM fault. Can you turn this off or should I just uninstall it?

yeah right click on battery in taskbar > power options > change plan settings > change advanced power settings > display > enable adaptive brightness (battery and plugged in) keep in mind you're only changing it for the active battery mode whether its balanced or for more performance.

nope, the shortcut might have changed OR it's not present in the current Intel Graphics Driver

    Right Click on your Desktop

    Click on Intel Graphics Properties

    Then, click on Options

Check what hotkeys are assigned to the Rotate options.

Also, make sure that the hotkeys are ON.

Tell me what Graphics Card Driver you have for the Intel card?

Alternatively, to do this manually, go to PC Settings > System > Orientation

then change your orientation from there

Wee! Placed my order with help from @Donald@HIDevolution.
In the GS43 7RE forums, I posted results of the laptop with various mods and an eGPU GTX 1080ti. I'll do the same for you guys to see if eGPUs are a worthy solution. I'll also do a comparison to see if the 8750H provides more FPS compared to the 7700HQ when using an eGPU.

    Cheers!

Just to clarify, simply uninstalling Dragon Center will remove/eliminate the hidden CPU throttling it does? No other steps are necessary?

Unlock your bios menus, set TDC to 0 and disable TDC in CPU VR settings ->Core I/A domain. then set VR Current Limit to 800 (divided by 4=200 amps). Set IA AC loadline to 1. Set IA DC loadline to 1 also.

To remove 45W TDP restriction on your CPU (make it report half of the TDP its using; you cant remove all tdp restrictions, but it will be good enough):

    Set IMON SLOPE to 50
Set IMON Offset to negative 31999. Pay attention to the negative sign.

Make sure your cooling is up to par. Your laptop will run hotter if it can exceed 45W TDP 24/7. The 'true' tdp after doing this will be about 80 watts total. That's a guess however.

    Enjoy your laptop.

How to Lower Temperatures, Stop Throttling, and Increase Battery Life: The ThrottleStop Guide (2017)

ThrottleStop is one of the most useful programs for any PC user, but it can be intimidating to use at first glance. The uninstall of DGC followed by a reboot into the BIOS and select Optimized Defaults + your settings in BIOS - after setting Optimized Defaults add your BIOS changes before Save / reboot out of BIOS into Windows - this is supposed to clear the BIOS twiddling that DGC does and sets BIOS back to default - recommended to do before running XTU standalone or TS (CPU OC / undervolt / tuning), along with MSI Afterburner (GPU OC) + RTSS (FPS Limiter) + Silent Option (Fan Control) - all full apps instead the the "training wheels" of DGC.

Recently, my combined firestrike score dropped from ~12800 too ~12200, and I can’t figure out why. Only things I remember upping since are bios, from stock to most recent, gpu drivers, from stock. To latest, and windows, to windows 1803. I’m thinking 1803is causing it but I’m not sure. Also, someone on the nvidia subreddit told me I should turn off fast boot. Is this a bios setting, and how would that change a firestrike score?

Check the individual scores, not the overall. That'll tell you if it's the GPU or CPU. My guess is it's the CPU, which is very sensitive to temperature.

I tried rolling back to the drivers the system came with, see how this goes. Also my boost clock speed is ~1200 according to gpu-z. Isn’t it supposed to be about 100mhz higher? Also, has anyone tried overclocking the gpu?
Edit: went up by about 200 after rolling back drivers, still lower than it was

Yes the GPU over clocks pretty well for me. Dragon center gives you something like 100mhz. Barely affects temps.

So a test on 390.84 yielded a combined of 12450, still 409 below what it was. And I have no idea how people are getting 13200
Edit: with an overclock of 154 MHz core and 300 MHz memory, I got 13150. Still don’t know why the firestrike score dropped unless something reduced my cards turbo speed, like a bad driver or windows update

Anyone else who’s updated the bios to the latest version, have you seen firestrike drop? Also, what is the current driver you are using for the gpu

I can’t tell if this is baseline or if he has applie the dragon center turbo ( a 200mhz core and 300 MHz memory boost)

Have you tried going into the bios and loading optimized settings? I went from 12900s pre bios flash to 12200s post bios flash and back to 12900s after loading optimized settings. Not sure if that’s actually what raised the score but it seems ok now. My cpu multipliers are 37,36,35. No overclock on gpu.

Dragon Center causes CPU throttling by changing hidden bios menu settings. Namely "VR Current Limit" which causes EDP throttling on a 6 core CPU, and TDC throttling !
