Thought I would create a lounge for the new GE76. I've had mine for a week and have some impressive benchmark numbers so far in timespy and firestrike. See my sig for the numbers. The 3080 in this beast performs just like a full desktop 3070!

Currently waiting for the tigerlake refresh. This one so far is in 1st place for competition of my money. Lol

Aren't they refreshing again this year by Q4 with DDR5? I figure I'll stick with the 10875H till DDR5 gets introduced

    Maybe, I'm not sure.

That might be alder lake because I know tiger is PCIE 4.0 in Q2/3 ish.

I'm just a little leery of alder lakes big.LITTLE design weirdness to hop on it. Lol

So I figure I'll get this one ride it a bit and then cycle it down to one of my brothers or friends if something big comes.

This would be the perfect laptop for me if MSI didn't remove the left/right mouse buttons and switch to a clickpad.

    What a shame.

I picked up one of these from Microcenter on the 13th. So far so good. The only thing that drives me nuts is the core temp differential on the CPU, but that issue has followed me from one notebook to the next while Intel has been on their 14nm+++(to infinity and beyond) process node.

I see the reasoning for certain styles of laptops, but high-end 17.3" machines should retain dedicated buttons imo.

I personally need them for accessibility reasons so if MSI eliminates them across the entire line, I have to switch brands

How are you liking the display? It's only 300 nits so for me its not bright enough and looks dull next to all my 500+ nit displays. No clue why they did this to a 3000 dollar laptop. In my games, colors would pop nicely and look very bright on my alienware 51m R2 but this one always has me trying to max the brightness only to find out it is maxed.

I think the display is very nice. There is some minor backlight bleed - mostly in the upper left quadrant. But it seems more like a bezel pressure issue than a actual screen issue because I can get the light bleed to shift if I gently flex the lid itself. The 300 Hz refresh rate is very nice.

My only gripe is the CPU temp spread like I said. But I don't blame MSI for that, I blame Intel. :)

I just put liquid metel on GPU/CPU.
    Max temp is 80CPU/60GPU.

    It's pretty much silent now.

Are your CPU core temps pretty much the same now? Or is there still a temp spread between the cores?

core 2 is about 4 degrees higher when stress testing.
all other cores within 1-2 degrees.

How was the heatsink? I hear they both are tripods.

Any concerns about it pumping out after awhile?

I wouldn't call the heatsinks tripods.

There are 4 fan screws, 2 on each side that also hold down the heatsink.
So, it's more like 5 screws holding down the heatsink on each side.

The screw diagram/numbres go from 0 to 9.

Updated to the latest bios and Nvidia drivers. These allowed me to go higher on the overclocks. Also have 3200 CL17 ram in it now. Clocks for the bench was +165 core and +1200 mem, full fan speed. Artifact and crashed alot so not stable but was able to get a couple runs to pass. For gaming this is definitely not my settings

Have you noticed any differences on the new bios? I'm guessing with the new bios and the latest drivers, Resizable Bar is now enabled? I haven't updated mine yet, so I'm wondering what it means for performance.

Resizable bar has been enabled since launch with the factory bios. The only difference I noticed was better overclocks and about a 15 frame boost in some of my games, which I'm guessing is mostly from the much higher core boost and mem clocks I can hit now. Processor is still the same and sticking to 4.2ghz all core during gaming with a -100mv voltage

Looks like we got very lucky getting one of these in stock. In Europe the pre orders are delayed until June. Same story for the US once this first batch is gone. Many people are buying these up for mining as well.

I did have one on preorder at Newegg. First the ETA was 2/5, then it slipped to 2/19. I saw someone mention in another thread that Microcenter had the GE76. When I check the website and saw that it came with Win10 Pro vs Home, the 10875h instead of the 10870h, and was $100 cheaper than Newegg, it was a no brainer. Especially with the Microcenter near me having it in stock.

Now that Newegg seems to keep pushing the ETA out further and further, it seems like I'm fortunate to have decided to cancel the preorder and went with Microcenter.

I have an external 1080p 165hz monitor I want to use that has gsync. I'm assuming I'll need mini displayport to displayport for gsync to show up? Currently not seeing gsync when using hdmi

Either side, it's a very long cable as has two USB heads so you can even daisy chain or add another USB device

I would expect more availability out of the tiger and alder lake models.

Imo they are probably just clearing last of stock on chips they already have.

Seeing reviews of laptops with the 11 series Intel CPUs and it doesn't look good. Everything from the 11300 to 11700 series aren't scoring great in benchmarks. These review units are also paired with 3070 GPUs and they are just choking bad. Hope the new 11 series isn't a flop. I'll stick with my 10875H till ddr5 next year

Own or disown had a live review just a couple hours ago on the 11370H. Also, 11700K review is out from anandtech and it does not fare much better at all in gaming versus a 10700K and loses to a 9900ks

Oh on the desktop models? Yea those are gonna get bent over any surface and thrashed because they are 14nm quantum +++

The 11th gen on laptops are the 10nm super fin stuff you see in the tiger lake quad cores.

Edit, also i haven't found anything on their channels about an 11th gen tigerlake that isn't a quad core.

The high-end Tiger Lake has been spotted in Lenovo Legion i refresh:

Intel 8-Core Tiger Lake-H CPUs Claw Their Way Into Lenovo's Legion Laptops | Tom's Hardware

PCI-E 4.0 confirmed, which is a big deal to me.

In a few months (May/June) I bet the GE76 will be refreshed with Core i7-11800H and i9-11980HK SKUs.

Yea, one of the few things I found out digging about the own or disown laptop is that its running Pcie4.0 4x lanes to the Dgpu. I wonder if thats causing the bottleneck.

Nice, I'm looking to hook mine up to an X34 when I get it. And then later down the road a C1 if they don't turn out crappy.

    How is the 1440p performance?

Performance is very good. I've eliminated some CPU bottleneck in many shooters like black ops and can now fully saturate the GPU @1440p. Going from 1080p to 1440p was a very small performance hit.

Nice, is that RAW or dlss?

I'm trying to figure out if there is any weirdness on the laptop. Or in general eith DLSS, as I will most likely be running it in 1080p/4k/3440x1440 or 3840 by either 1080 or 1600 when I start playing with custom resolutions.

In black ops I'm using dlss at the quality preset for both the internal and external display and saw barely any performance hit moving from one res to the other. Dirt 5 doesn't use dlss and I saw a bigger hit. Went from about 120 fps maxed at 1080p to 90 to 105 at 1440p

Anyone know how hard it is to replace the panel on these laptops? Just wondering if they come out with new panels or someone breaks one, and you can get the panel, how difficult it would be to swap it out in the existing lid assembly

Swapping the panel out when the existing one is broken is far more easier than swapping it out when you are upgrading it without trying to break it.

These LCDS are razor thin and are held by super strong adhesive.

I thought the hardest part was going to be removing the super thin bezel. Seems like it clicks in place and has adhesive on the bottom. Just thought I'd ask in case they release some new panels later this year. Does anyone know what type of pin layout this machine uses for the panel?

I'm hoping they bring out the 1440p 144htz soon. All we can get in my region is 1080p300htz.

Probably will have to wait on the refresh.

Or see how bad those tarifs are going to be on buying a product from the states.

I'm hearing 50/50 on if it will affect it or not.
