I appear to have lost two finger scrolling for the touchpad after updating the ELAN software. I've check it's still enabled in the elan utility, but nothing.
Anyone know a fix / where I can get an earlier driver?
Edit: In fact, I don't think any of the multi-touch command are working - I can two-finger tap, but that's about it
Edit-2: Ok, found several similar posts around the web, all resolved the issue by reinstalling 11.13.3.3
However, I can;t find a copy of this driver anywhere - all sites link the the msi download server, but appears to have been removed.
Anyone got a copy by any chance?
Edit-3: Ok - didn't find 3.3, but completely uninstalled 4.4, then re installed fresh, and that seems to have sorted it out finally!

I have been having a problem with the Killer wireless N adapter dropping connections. This would only occur when the laptop was unplugged and running on battery power. I am pretty sure I have figured out the solution so I thought I would post it to this thread.
You need to go to Device Manager > Network Adaptors > right click the Killer Wireless N Adaptor > Select Properties > go to the Power Management tab. On the power management tab there is an option that allows windows to automatically shut down the adaptor to save power. Uncheck that option and the issue should hopefully be fixed.
Hope this helps some people. It was driving me nuts for months. -

thanks for all the great info that you guys have posted so far.
Im really interested in picking up a 2013 version with the 765m. The only thing that is stopping me from doing it is the noise level. I would really like something that is silent while im sitting on the couch surfing the web. Im guessing that I can just use precision x and intels xtu to create me own fan curve? If not, how do you guys control fan speed? -

I've had my gs70 few days now, but am getting intermittent bsods. The event log didn't really show anything prior to the crash, and the crash logs just point to the kernel itself, which could mean anything I guess. I've updated to 8.1, installed my pro licence, swapped out the HDD for an ssd, added a 2nd msata and swapped out the ram. Can't see it being the drives as I've not done anything with the original os drive. Really going it's not the ram as it was a got to install - but what working just fine in the laptop I took it out of. Key drivers are up to date.
Any suggestions? Really don't want to return!

Thick I'm using the latest beta drivers, with killer network manager 1.1.41.1042.
Only upgraded at the bluetooth driver wasn't working (which i don't even use, but was bugging me seeing it in the device manager)
Think i did a restore point before the upgrade, so if an uninstall + reinstall (perhaps to an earlier version) I'll try a rollback.
thanks for the pointer -
Is this the program you speak of?
As far as fan table, I like to use a very low fan speed out the gate fan profile that ramps up pretty aggressively under load. With this laptop, im sure it would require some tinkering. -

I'd recommend a complete repasting, thermal pad adjustment and then fan table adjustment if you want the largest impact.

I'm still getting BSOD's - on the occasions I've been sat at the laptop at the time, it's said to search 'MEMORY_MANAGEMENT' - often happens when I'm away from the laptop.
I've uninstalled & reinstalled the killer drivers which didn't help, and my restore point prior to updating them failed to re-instate! Does anyone have an earlier copy of the killer drivers? Both the links for 8.1 on msi seems to download the same version.
Anyone have any suggestions?
It 'only' happens when I'm browsing with chrome (which is 90%+ of the time, so won't give it too much weight) - but chrome itself often gets multiple crashed tabs ahead of a full system crash, so I may try uninstalling chrome for a few days (I've already tried a chrome re-install), but there has to be an underlying cause - RAM issue maybe? -
Hello All,
I just purchased the MSI GS70 2PE 010US and right from the get go the track pad is not working. I had to tab through the setup of the computer. I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them, but still nothing. I know that the track pad does not work when you have an external mouse plugged in, but my track pad will not work at all. When I go into control panel and mouse setting the elan tab is completely grayed out like there is no touchpad at all.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?
thanks
Sorry this post should be in the stealth pro section -
However, I only passed the first test (test 0) - all others failed with between 160 errors (test 1+2) and 53,000 errors (test 7)
It says the errors were all in the range 11725MB-11757MB which would suggest perhaps a faulty stick/channel.
Would this fairly small window or problematic ram be enough to be causing the crashes, or is it a bit of a red herring? (was such a git to change the ram - really wan't to avoid doing it!)
If it helps, the ram is crucial DDR3 12800 11-11-11-28 1.35v in 2x8GB config, and is about 1 year old
I've read that ram issues can sometimes be down to the bios mis-reading the ram and applying the wrong settings, eg voltage (esp notable as mine is quite low voltage ram), but couldn't see anywhere in the bios to amend the ram voltage settings.
Edit: CPU-Z looks to show that the correct voltage of 1.35 is being applied to both modules -
Looks like the ram is going back. Any reason why I shouldn't get exactly the same sticks to go back in? (As I imagine they'll offer a credit note rather than full refund)

Hey guys! Wanna ask a question.
Anyone know whether the new sound blaster cinema 2 will be compatible with the older version of the gs70? -
or maybe your touch pad is disabled in the control panel?? -
Hi, I've had to swap out my RAM twice now, and will have to do so a third time when my replacement modules arrive. Found it a bit fiddly getting to the slots, and took a good hour+ the first time I did it. Second time around was much quicker as I knew roughly what I did & didn't need to take out, so thought i'd do a mini guide (used a picture from another website to annotate, but left the watermark on - hope that's acceptable).
Back panel removal
Not difficult - 19 odd screws. However, you need to take notice of which screw came from where. (This becomes even more important when it comes to remove to motherboard as well). What I did was laid out the zip-up sleeve which came with the laptop, and as i took screws out I placed them on the sleeve in the rough location / order it came out. I then used a plastic 'pryer' to ease off the case - it doesn't require much force
Motherboard removal
The RAM slots are helpfully located on the underside of the motherboard (to the left as you look at the below image. There are various screws, tapes & cables to disconnect, but not all of them need to be removed to gain access (note, I don't remove the whole motherboard, but effectively 'hinge' it at the back.) As with the back panel, as I remove screws, I pay them on the other side of the sleeve in the approx location it came from. I didn't do this the first time round, but made it far, far easier the second time, as you may not know which screw holes are for the motherboard and which are for the back panel!
Below shows the items & ordering (ordering not a big deal for taking out) I used...
1. remove the holding screw for the mSata drive(s), and remove the drives themselves
2. remove the holding screw for the wireless module, but there is no need to remove the module itself
3. Unclick the ribbon for the HDD (as with most of the ribbons, this one lifts up (the black securing strip) to allow easy removal). There is no need to remove the HDD itself
4. Remove 1 of the 4 connectors at the top right (think this one is for the power button, but not too sure). The other 3 can remain connected
5. carefully remove the plastic sticky panel covering the two ribbons, then remove the ribbons. There is a 3rd ribbon hidden under some tape just to the right. Remove the tape & ribbon
6. Remove the ribbon and DC & Battery connections from the left
7. Remove the 11 (I think!) screws holding the board down. Note one of them is under some very sticky tape which you will need to peel back/off
The board should now lift up. I start at the front (battery side)and lift up, hinging it as you go. The GPU & CPU fans will come up with it. You may need to wriggle out of the USB port slots on the right. Just take it easy, and of course if you find a cable snagging that hasn't been unplugged, then do of course unplug it - don't go solely on my say so ;o)
The ram slots will then be visible on the left underside.
Replacement
To put together again, gently lower the board, wriggle gently into the usb slots. If you settle the fans into their 'slots', it should help everything else line up. Take care to ensure the 3 ribbons from the front (from Step 5) and the connector at the top (from step 4) are brought through
Once lined up, I would screw in the fan screws first, as again it helps line everything up. I then re-connect the ribbons and cables before i do the rest of the screws just in case I've left one underneath. Replace the rest of the screws, the tapes / sticky panels and the drives. Replace the cover, and you're done.
Note - because we've disconnected the battery, you'll need to mains adaptor plugged in the first time you power up after this - this freaked me out a little when it wouldn't turn on!
I hope this helps someone else. -
Hey Aldredd, thanks for your guide!
For more pictures and part numbers in case someone needs to order replacements you can also refer to our colleagues the MSI PDF guide, here: http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/uploads/172/MS-1771_Disassembly_guide.pdf
I've opened my notebook for the first time yesterday because of liquid spilling (almost had a heart attack, but it was fine inside).
Anyways, since I had already removed the bottom lid, I decided to make some temperature test runs with the fans out in the open and see what difference would it make.
I never actually understood how the notebook managed to suck in air from both the top holes and bottom intakes, but something told me the cooling could be better.
And I was right. My GPU reaches around 90C with a Furmark Burn-in test with the lid on, and when i ran it without the cover there was much more air coming out of the exaust, and the temperature reached its peak at 71 C. CPU test using intel XTU registred 82 C max, and with the cover I start getting throttled at 90C. In all tests I gave it enough time to reach a stable temperature.
The point is, I think having better openings on the bottom lid would actually benefit both coolers with more air to suck in. Noise would probably be higher, but I'd rather have cooler components and no throttling.
I'm thinking about drilling new intakes on the bottom lid exactly under the fans. Also will test adding some foam to ensure the air will come from the exterior only and see if this gives any difference.
Has anyone given any thought about this on our model? Or actually done it to tell the tale? -
What's the latest Nvidia driver that's working well on the GS70? I am using Win8.1 pro. I tried installing the Beta 337.50 and the computer just froze in the middle of the installation. It happened a few times. After rebooting, Nvidia Control Panel is gone.
Also, anybody using the GS70 with the Samsung 4K monitor, U28D590D? Using the DP cable and 335 Nvidia driver, I can get the 60Hz, but the screen would occasionally go blank. I tried it with the HDMI cable also. Same thing. If I reduce the resolution to 2560x1400, no problems, solid screen. Is the GTX 765M enough to drive 4K at 60Hz? -
Prostar Computer Company Representative
Did you try a clean driver installation? It may have been a bad install.
HDMI will not handle UHD-1 resolution at 60 Hz, it can only run 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. You will need DisplayPort 1.2 to get 60 Hz. The intermittent lack of picture might be the driver, as the 765M is supposedly capable of supporting UHD-1. -
I think I know what is causing the blank screens. Under Nvidia Control Panel, I can't get Internet Explorer to run under Nvidia GPU. For both Firefox and Chrome, I can change it to High Performance Nvidia driver. Even if I set the Global Setting to Nvidia, IE just stays on Integrated Graphics.
On Youtube 4K UltraHD videos, most of them won't give you 2160 option unless you are on IE. Only on a few videos, Youtube gives the 2106 option on Chrome. When Youtube give the 4K option, I don't have any issues running those videos from Chrome.
So, how can I set IE to run using Nvidia. Also, under multiple displays, Monitor 1 is set to the Nvidia GPU, but the laptop monitor 1 is still set to Intel HD Graphics 4600.
Is there a way to force everything to run from the Nvidia GPU and completely turn off the Inter HD 4600?
I am thinking that should fix the blanking and flickering.
Thanks,

Hi guys I was a happy owner of MSI GS70. I'm writting 'was' because couple days ago I split a drink (sprite + vodka) on my keyboard. I turn off laptop immediately and put it upside down for 72h. It didn't help because keyboard is not working at all, everything else seems fine like touch pad, or back lit. I was looking on web for any site that is selling replacement but no luck, is any possible way to change it?

I really want a 870m inside a notebook and my eye dropped on the MSI GT70 2PC and MSI GS70 2PE, the Asus g750js too pricey.
What I want to know is how much cooler a 870m inside the thicker GT70 would be compared to the slimmer GS70. I would rather go for the sexy slimm design of the GS70 but the thinness is also its weakness because of the heat distribution.
So would a GT70 be a safer buy in term of longevity then the slim GS70? -
My GPU fan (the left one) started making some lovely grinding noises a few days ago. It only happens when the power adapter is plugged in. When it revs up (unplugged) there seems to be no issues. I am able to get an RMA for a fan replacement, but since I'm not living in the US atm (where I bought the computer), I was thinking about replacing the fan myself. However, I can't seem to find any part numbers for the fans at all. Does anyone know where I could pick one up or a part number for the GPU fan?

I don't know about the one with a 765 card but there's a 1 year accidental dmg warranty from MSI directly

Which file do I click on when I want to update the BIOS? I haven't updated it since last fall and there's the December 2013 update. I forgot how to update it from within Windows.

Has anyone else noticed that you can run games at full speed on battery power now?
E.g. the gfx card doesn't seem to throttle down on battery anymore? Was it the new drivers? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
-
I know they are not the most demanding titles out there these days, but still it looks like they have made the GFX card run faster than before while on battery power.
Before most of these games were unplayable on battery mode - going at about 10-15 fps, now they are rinning more in the region of 40-50 fps depending on settings (high) -

Hello,
I have just bought the schenker xmg c703 wich is the exact copy of MSI GS70. Every day the laptop is unplugged it loose about 8% of battery (in 6 days 40% is gone).
All is unplugged , the computer is in the bag with no special option in bios...
I have called technical service and they say that it's all MSI barebones (they buy them from MSI) that have this problem, and that they can't do anything !
Is it true ? Have you experienced this problem ?
Thanks,
BIG_J -
Did you really shut it down (or a full to disk hibernation)? Or are you in suspend mode?
So are you saying that the laptop looses 8% of battery even when it is really fully shutdown (and if you turn it on it really starts up, boots windows) -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative

yes, in full shut down

Hi, so I just bought the 2OD-001US version of this laptop, and was wondering on any tips/tricks I should do on this laptop on start up. Is there a starter's guide to this laptop on this forum? I bought this mainly for the RAM because I'll be using VM to boot into linux side by side more often than not to run my chemistry programs, or should I just dual boot it? (Any suggestions on what would be better?).

Has anyone else had problems when installing the new Network drivers?

I made something dumb. I've installed Live Update 6 on my laptop... Well, now some Tiles are gone on my Metro UI (Explorer, CMD.. programs?). Also the task manager doesn't show "startup" items anymore. KLM and SCM aren't working anymore (some error on startup). Finally, system recovery isn't working even though I've got a restore point, before I've installed the live update... The error says "%SystemRoot%\registration" and "ComPlusStaging". There is no such folder in my sys root. I've used sfc \scannow, without results. I uninstalled live update, didn't change anything. Any ideas what to do now, without reinstalling windows? ._.

Did it put 8.1 on? That moved program shortcuts "below" the main metro page for me (Scroll down).
