Note: The benchmarks were run with HWiNFO in the background for monitoring the temps. The scores would be higher by around 10% if I didn't have HWiNFO in the background

Just ran a 3DMark11 test with the CPU overclocked to 4.2 GHz on all cores. GPU at stock speeds. GSYNC = ON. FAST SYNC = ON. Texture Quality = HIGH. Power Management = Adaptive

I can obviously get a higher score by setting the GPU to High Performance and the texture filtering to High Performance but I wanted to show you how performance would be in a normal users' usage scenarios, that is, with adaptive power management to not make the GPU always work on the highest clock speeds which wouldn't make sense if you're watching a movie or browsing the web, and I also kept GSYNC enabled but with FAST SYNC enabled for the Vertical Sync. that way, the max FPS isn't limited to the screen refresh rate but you still won't get any screen tearing.

BTW, in the above tests, the fans were on auto not max speed. I could barely hear them spinning. This laptop's cooling is awesome and it's very quiete

I initially wanted 64K but then a user here posted an image from the MSI manual where they suggest 128K for SSD m.2 RAID 0 so I went with that.

Here are the BIOS Settings for the above overclock. First apply the XTU settings then reboot and set your BIOS like this. If you don't set these BIOS values, then the overclock only starts reflecting after 2 mins when you boot into Windows but if you set them in the BIOS, the overclock is there from the start:

I'm a bit disappointed, the laptop runs hot even with IC Diamond re-paste.

    Edit:

Wait, I just noticed it's an overclocked temps. I'll take back what I said.

I mean the temp in during your benchmark with GT73VR, I thought you were running benchmark in default clock speed and havin a temp of 83-88 C but I noticed it was overclocked to 4.1 GHz causing the temp to ramp up totally acceptable.

ohh ok, on the 4.1 GHz I didn't even undervolt and the fans were on Auto not max so all good

    now I'm undervolted by -100 mV @ 4.2 GHz

How dangerous is it to increase the current limit? With an increase to 320, I have no current throttle issues at 4 ghz...same with 4.1ghz at 332.

Machine on stock paste has never had any temp or power throttle issues so far...undervolts fairly well too

It's fine, the machine will only use what it needs, by raising the current limit you are just telling it that should you need more, it's available for you.

With that said, I decreased my power limits back to 200 from the 300 I had before but increased the current limit from 75A to 100A in XTU (appears as a value of 400 in the BIOS) and that alone fixed the throttling. just keep it @ 100A

doesn't show the temps for a RAID Array, but I tried copying large amounts of data to the 1TB 850 EVO and the temps were max at 40C thanks to the SSD heatsink in the laptop

Even if you're SSD is throttling the speeds are very good to notice a dip in perf.

Hi in start i'm sorry for my english.
    I've got GT73VR 6RE 6820hq + 1070.
I'm only can get stable 4.0 when i try to 4.1 aplicatiion going to error crash.
When i got stock bios option and cpu on turbo mode in dragon center with settings: all cores at 4.0 gpu core +150 and memory +250 every thing work fine temp are good, and laptop work stable even when gaming over 3-4 hour on high end games.
When i change any setting in bios i've got lower score in 3DMark. Sometime crash at second graphic test and dot give score at cpu.
    Stock:
    Adjust CPU Ratio: 36
    Adjust Ring Ratio: 36
    CPU Core Voltage: 0
    CPU Core Voltage Offset: 0
    CPU Ring Voltage: 0
    Clock Frequency: 10000
    VR Current Limit: 0
    Power Limit: 200
    Power Limit: 200

    I was try:

    Adjust CPU Ratio: 36
    Adjust Ring Ratio: 36
    CPU Core Voltage: 0
    CPU Core Voltage Offset: 0
    CPU Ring Voltage: 0
    Clock Frequency: 10000
    VR Current Limit: 400
    Power Limit: 230
    Power Limit: 230

    Adjust CPU Ratio: 36
    Adjust Ring Ratio: 36
    CPU Core Voltage: 0
    CPU Core Voltage Offset: 0
    CPU Ring Voltage: 0
    Clock Frequency: 10000
    VR Current Limit: 400
    Power Limit: 300
    Power Limit: 300

And in dragon center in comfort mode i've got same score as in not modify bios. But when turn turbo mode @4.0 I've got lover score at cpu.

When change Adjust CPU Ratio to 42 windows crash unless i change CPU Core Voltage Offset at 100 then windows normal starts but sore on cpu are lower stable work at 4.1 but score are same as on drafon center comfort with stock bios at 4.2 app sometimes crash

When i change Adjust Ring Voltage to 40 then i can get stable 4.2 but score are little low as stock bios + [email protected] and temp are higher.

    Keyboard = heaven
exterior temperature = ice ice baby
noise levels = silent compared to my previous Clevo
good stuff = works out of the box, the best screen on any laptop I've had, 120hz / 5 ms FHD FTW, great performance, good driver support / fast downloads from MSI
bad stuff = Fast Boot doesn't stick when you enable it in the BIOS but MSI are working with me on that and it will be fixed soon, nothing serious though

Ssd's in raid or single drive doesn't matter. All depends if the RAID controller can handle the additional bandwidth. If not, will a single ssd boot faster. But fast boot doesn't make the big difference for ssd's.

Yes you would. From the moment you hit that power button, it takes around 5-8 seconds till you see the splash screen because Fast Boot isn't working.

If Fast Boot was enabled and working, you would see the Windows loading animation within 1-2 seconds as it skips all the hardware checks, hence why it's called Fast Boot.

My Wife's Dell Vostro laptop from 2014 boots faster than my beast.

MSI are now aware of the issue and were able to replicate it on a similar model like mine. Their other models like the 6RE have Fast Boot Enabled and it stays that way.

They have now forwarded this issue to their engineers and it will be fixed soon

Having an SSD has nothing to do with how fast you see the splash screen of Windows loading, that's the issue at hand, it takes ages till you see that animation.

you guys are talking about a different thing, I am not talking about the OS Fast Boot which basically doesn't fully shutdown a system but does a hybrid shutdown / hibernation so it starts faster the next time you turn it on. I am talking about the BIOS Fast Boot, 2 totally different things

I was confused with Windows Fast boot and Quick Boot. How to check if my PC uses Quick Boot without going into BIOS, cause my BIOS doesn't come with one.
Anyway, your PC has lot of hardware and other sensors than Vosto's. So less hardware means less time to do a basic diagnostic.

    Simple........

    Turn off your laptop......

    Press the power button.......

    then tell me....

    1) how long does it take till you see the BIOS Logo splash screen

    2) How long till you see the Windows loading animation / icon

If you see it starts loading Windows almost instantly, then Fast boot is on and active

if it takes 5 to 10 seconds till you see the BIOS Logo / Windows loading animation, BIOS Fast Boot is not working

Steps 1 and 2 are combined into one, I directly see windows EFI boot animation with Alien Head. Startup time is 6-7 sec with alienware softwares running at startup.

then you have UEFI Fast Boot on. Dell has it enabled by default just like it is on my wife's 4 year old Dell Vostro laptop

I don't talk about the crippled Windoze fast boot - hybrid boot/shutdown. I have never liked this ****y from the Redmond Morons. I understand what yooo talk about. Of course Fast boot should work. But it's not very important for me. Just be sure your OC work well before you use it :)

speaking of Fast Boot, it doesn't work on Clevo laptops, even with the Prema BIOS, you enable it, save and exit, then it goes back to disabled so my taptop will soon beat you by 10 seconds in boot time :D

And your ssd's as well :D But like I said. This performance isn't very important for me. With ok boot time I'm all good. I don't re-boot very often. I prefer to use my machine up and go  What's count is the processing powa :p

Hey nice review, and youre right the screen is amazing and looks like just an ips. One thing i noticed is that there's a quite a lot of bloatware installed in this laptop, can you tell me which apps did you remove

My charger connector feels wobbly when connected to the charging port, not super wobbly but not as tight as the one with a single pin that usually plugs on the side of the laptop, is it the same with you guys?

I did a clean install so I don't know what bloatware is offered with the MSI image.

The only bloatware after installing the driver that I uninstalled is MSI Remind Manager from control panel which reminds you to register your system. Everything else is useful
