MSI GE65 Raider 2019 (RTX)

I know there is a large thread on the GE75 with the RTX cards, but has anyone purchased the new MSI GE65 with the 2070 in it? I don't see any mention of it. I would think with the 240mhz display, small bezels, small form factor that there would be alot more interest in it. If anyone has it, can you post thoughts on performance, thermals, screen quality, etc? Also how would a Nvidia 2070 compare speed wise with a Intel 9750 compared to a mobile Nvidia 1080 with an Intel 8750? Graphics card wise (mobile chips), would they be about equal performance wise?

 

There isn't much talk because people opt for the GS or the GT series which is portability/battery vs. DT/powerhouse. The middle ground is the GE65, its light at 5lbs, size is slightly bigger than the GS but the chassis is as big as the GS chassis + screen (closed) so you can kinda gauge how thick it is closed. Thermals are good, not the best and you'll be seeing yourself replace the thermal paste for better cooling. It's always like a good 5-10C drop with premium thermal paste and additional 5-10C with liquid metal. It can house a full 2070 so its not the max-q variant. Honestly I was considering it after my GT73 and its a lot smaller and even the GE75 is much smaller than the GT73 despite the screen size. The only con I see is the battery size, of course you're not gonna get a lot of battery life in gaming but regular use its a few hours shy of the GS65 and it sits in between the cooler so fairly normal/odd but at the same time you wont be able to open the screen with just the front weight.

Honestly aside from stock clock speeds theres not a whole difference between the two. Most people with thin/sleek/non-DT laptops usually undervolt and underclock anyway so 8750 isn't really missing much. I have my GS65 at 4.0-3.6GHz because I don't really need 4.0GHz 6/12 for a game and I went to casual games with the laptop and hardcore gaming on the desktop.

 

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it. But what I really was hoping was for anyone to be able to post a full blown out review on this model that actually owns it. I think people are interested in this unit but are gun shy of taking the plunge without seeing many full reviews (actual thermals, screen, layout, repasting results, etc). I know we can go by hypothetical but a real live actual review by an actual owner would be great. One day i hope! lol I have a few MSI lappys already including a GT63 with a 1080 in it with liquid metal repaste...I guess I just didn't want to be the guinea pig myself on this unit. Would love to have a 15' lappy in a 14' form factor with a 2070 in it without having to worry about it melting in my lap. lol! I have been considering selling my GT63 with a 1080 in it with Liquid metal repaste from HIDEvolution and just lurking around about this unit.

Just got my GE65, 2070, 9750H, loving this thing! I just applied liquid metal to the CPU and GPU after some liquid electrical tape. I was seeing 95-100°C under full stress testing with Grizzly paste, after LM application the hottest it gets is around 84°C. Very impressed.

 

This was on the same settings? Which software did you use to perform stress tests?
