Because it has no battery life ^_^ - really, that 41Wh battery is going to be horrid. Expecting it to have about 2 hours of battery life...

no one will gaming with on the battery mode. lol, for me i don't care about battery life, as long the cooling was good, portable and powerful.

I'm not talking about gaming on battery - I expect a maximum of 2 hours of web browsing on battery on this machine. Gaming on it, I'd be impressed if they managed 50 minutes.

Honestly, a laptop without a battery is just a tiny desktop with loud fans - having the ability to at least sit through a meeting or work on my essay in the living room for 3 hours is vital in order for me to be able to really consider a machine "mobile"

OMG, I think you hit on a gold mine, a whole new desktop computer market.

    Tiny but LOUD desktops!!

So skinny that they emanate waves of fan noise with laser-like pin-point precision; aimed at knocking your gaming opponents out of the game!!

    Perfect for eSports!! ;)

Max-Q laptops took it one step closer by reflecting fan noise away from the player, and out into the room - now take it all the way as an offensive tactic with Max-Q Desktops!!

2 or 2.3 hours in web browsing on this machine is more than enough for "portable gamers", i under line my word "portable gamers" who have travel a lot and because they always bring DC power in their backpack, so if u re not "portable gamers" find something else to buy with bigger battery life and less power. and one more thing ppl that want to buy GTX1070 rarely to concern about battery life, because they're already "googling on it" how powerful the GTX1070.

Is it G-Sync? This would probably be my choice over the GS73. A good middle size between that and the Titan, and the only thing it seems to lack is 1080 option

Also, why are there no reviews of it? Google and Youtube search bring up nothing other than Computex articles. It's been on sale for quite awhile, that seems pretty odd.

    @ don_svetlio @hmscott

I noticed that there is no more G-SYNC feature on the newer models, GE63VR and GE73VR are already out in the market and It's confirmed that they don't have G-SYNC.

Why did MSI backed away from G-SYNC? It's really backwards for them to do so.

I hope that they don't take away G-SYNC for the new MSI GT75 though.

They put 51Whr battery in both GE63VR and GE73VR models. That is small even for a 17" GTX1060 laptop. The battery life isn't much important on a gaming notebook. But considering a 17" GTX1070 laptop with G-SYNC (no iGPU) and this battery capacity, you can't call that portable (even for simple tasks, such as web browsing).

Granted with such a small form factor they couldn't put a bigger battery in it, however I saw the video reviews in YouTube of the GT75 and none of them ever mentioned that it comes with G-SYNC.

    It isn't the form factor.
    GE73VR: 419 x 285 x 28.5mm, 2.8kg, 51Wh
    GL702VM: 415 x 280 x 24mm, 2.7kg, 76 Wh

GT72 & GT73 already have G-Sync. So, I think GT75 will have this feature too.

Okay, tbh I couldn't careless about GE73 or GL702. Right now I have to say if MSI dropped G-Sync with their upcoming GT models then they are going backwards.

G-sync is tight to dGPU only so only GT can do that. but assume display output (HDMI or DP) still do

Can you please post some in game temps? Really curious to see how the raider does with battlefield 1, witcher 3, or overwatch.

Still in the process of setting up (ie removing junk) computer. I don't have any of those games to test. I have a couple that should work though.

If you can get a demo of any of those games, I would. I've noticed they are the best way to stress your comp in terms of temps. But if you never imagine playing those kinds of games then never mind.

Really anticipating this laptop with the new cooling system, keyboard, etc and the 1070 in it. I have a MSI 14' GE43VR with the 1060 in it (good comp but want something a bit bigger screen, graphics card, etc wise) that I am going to consider selling to get this 15' Raider if the cooling holds up, etc. Seems to be a good in between from the thin Stealth models to Titan models. So any news, benchmarks, screenshots, etc on this ATCSMike....Fire Away! There doesn't seem to be any actual in depth reviews, etc anywhere on this unit yet.

Noticed last night that the battery was at 91% and not charging. This morning turned it on and it was at 89%. Haven't really used it alot. Still working on getting bloatware removed before I really test it. Hopefully in the next couple of days.

I'm going to run the battery conditioner later when I have a chance and see what the result is.

I uninstalled the VR portion thinking that was the issue, but it's the software itself. The software seems to work but the images are reversed. Since it's just a utility and not required driver, I'll change it out. Found a program called ManyCam (free) that I will try out.

Another disappointment. Why is there no thunderbolt 3 port in this machine? Isn't it the new trend now? The keyboard on this laptop is cool though.

Heads up friends, the GE73VR Raider uses a 120hz 5ms panel, while the GE63VR Raider uses the "new" 120hz 3ms panel. Tbh I know for a fact I won't see a difference between these as the ms are already so low, but I ordered a GE73VR and I confirmed it's the 120hz/5ms screen.

Edit: I'm wrong about the GT75VR. It uses the 120hz/3ms.

    Eh?
The GT75VR Titan with the mechanical keyboard uses the exact same screen as the GT73VR?

Wasn't it advertised that the GT75VR would use the "3ms" screen?
    What's going on here?

I was mistaken. I apologize! D: My new question is why wouldn't the GE73VR get the 120hz/3ms? Hmm.

Because the GT models are the flagship, GE series is mid-range and won't have all of the sweet stuff that the GT series has. Even the GT75VR has more sweet stuff than the GT73VR.

I am debating between this and the Dominator with pretty much the same specs. Is the all aluminum construction, updated cooling, per key RGB and smaller footprint worth the $100?

Also do they both use the same 120hz displays?

They both use the same 120hz screens. Having owned a Dominator and currently a Titan, the main reason I'm picking this up is for the smaller, more travel-friendly size. Updated cooling (with liquid metal thermal solutions) and the rgb keys are dope additions though.

Yea, I currently have a Dominator and it just looks so clunky. It's been good to me but I just don't like the looks that much.

By the way, is the stock paste on the Raider liquid metal?

Just the usual questions...Firestrike, temps, how does the screen look (uniformity, backlight bleed etc), some photos of the lappy if you can. There is so little out there about this laptop that anything you can provide would be much appreciated :D

Awesome! Makes at least two of us going for this unit. I hope they ship quick. :D I expect to get a decent GPU OC with the liquid metal thermal solution. Cannot wait to FireStrike and chill.

No, it does not support G-Sync, but with a 120Hz~3ms screen G-Sync adds little value.

Just placed order for MSI GE73VR Raider-003 from GenTechPC. Looking forward to the updated system and a lighter backpack load. The MSI GT's have served me well but a new system in a lighter package is even better.

As mentioned previously, Ken and his staff at GenTechPC have been the best over the years.

And now the waiting game plays out again...... waiting for that "shipped" email confirmation to hit the inbox. ;)

    General impressions?

How is the machine doing temps and performance wise?
