    Hi,

Yes, you need to update your BIOS. Put the 6700 back in, update the BIOS, then swap to the 7700K.

It's always best to revert BIOS settings to default settings before swapping to a diff. CPU

I noticed that HID uses CLLU only between silicon and lid (ICD everywhere else). Looks like there's an advantage to DIY for this.

There was a statement a while ago on another owners lounge where i believe one member said that over time the liquid metal pastes become runny over time, and cause short circuiting or other errors, and as they were the ones to apply it they would have to cover it under warranty etc, and they do not want to be liable anymore and have therefore taken away the option for liquid metal between heatsink and ihs

@Mr. Fox - I'm guessing your fancy electrical taping methods takes care of "runny" CLLU (though honestly I thought CLLU became dry over time).

CLU never gets runny over time. I've been using it for years and so has Brother @Papusan and Brother @TBoneSan and that's baloney. CLU stays the same consistency except for the part that is exposed to air and that part hardens and forms a seal around the edges. CLU has never once moved from where I placed it.

Conductonaut and Phobya Liquid Metal, and Coollaboratory Liquid Pro start off runny on day one. I will not use those because I think they are too risky. Those running metal TIMs have moved from where I put them and seeing that was enough that I will not use them even though they work extremely well... as good as CLU.

Nice scores! I noticed you're at 5Ghz on the 7700K, are you getting throttling during the benchmark? I only ask this because based on my 4.6Ghz 6700K score of 14877 yours is 6% more, but theoretically I would have that same score at 4.6Ghz*1.06 = 4.88Ghz. My RAM is a bit faster, so maybe that's making up a small difference. How's the overclock doing on the GTX 1080, have you got any more room there or limited by vBIOS?

I believe Mr. Fox's 1080 has custom vBIOS that allows it to go the full 200W. He also has custom and unlocked, one of a kind, Prema BIOS. Hahaha, he doesn't have a "normal" Tornado F5.

Thank you! Yes, they are nice scores. I am very pleased with this little 15-inch beast. Nope, no CPU throttling. It holds clocks pretty nicely. Once in a while when the CPU is not under load it will dip a second or two, but never during the physics or combined tests. The biggest challenge is cooling it.

I've been busy with other things and not a lot of free time for fine tuning the overclock lately, and the firmware on this machine is still a work in progress.
I'm not sure how much further I can push the 1080. Probably at least a little bit. There is going to be a limit to what it can pull through the MXM slot without an auxiliary power source to feed it.

Right, no CPU throttling, it might be the RAM then that's giving a "slightly lower than expected" 5GHz Physics score. I reckon it could be the high tRFC you have - I know it helps hit higher RAM clocks/tighter timings, but I think I read somewhere that increasing tRFC too far can negate your other performance enhancing efforts. Ah, so you're not vBIOS limited in terms of power draw then, you're just concerned about frying something in terms of drawing too much power through the PCIe slot alone?

Oh' No. He isn't scared of frying the hardware :D It's more the limit due no extra power sources outside the mmx slot.
Btw 4.8GHz should give around 15500 in Firestrike physics with Windoze X and no SLI. I have slower OEM ram, but still get around 15510 in FS physics with [email protected] and +-15800 with 4.9GHz.

Yes, that's what I was saying, his Physics score seems low for a 5Ghz overclock - yep, your scores also show that. So, what happens if you try to draw more power than the mmx slot can provide: does the card just show PWR throttling in GPUz, or just GPU throttling, what happens?

He can probably squeeze out some more graphics points before the machine turns of due not enough powa for the graphics. Due the physics... Maybe not optimal Nvidia driver used for the machine or not finished tweaking the processor settings. Could also be firmware who still isn't finished.

OK, I have done more testing to validate the success of the bottom cover mod. The improvement in temps were modest, but combined with other important mitigation steps like a CPU delid and using CLU (perhaps placing a shim on the IHS... still pending at this time) when those steps are combined they work together to achieve better results than any single mod could do by itself. Every little bit helps.

I also debunked the possibility that punching holes over the fans might somehow disrupt an intelligent or mystical engineering measure to channel air internally in a deliberate manner to cool other components. I would certainly not give that much credit to any OEM for having such a commitment to engineering excellence, but the thought or concern that they might have deliberately done so and the benefit of doubt warranted exploration.

So, what I did was ran a series of benchmarks with an original, unmodified bottom cover, then ran the same battery of tests with the modded bottom cover. Here are the results.

I can't embed the video large enough for good viewing thanks to our crappy new Xenforo forum software and all of its functional limitations, so please watch it on my YouTube channel full screen. While you're there, click my "thumbs up" button on as many videos as you can and subscribe to my channel. I've got a playlist going for the Tornado F5 videos.

Excellent GPU score! I think there's some room for improvement on CPU score though, as it's only 1% more than my 6700K at 4.6Ghz - with your CPU at 5Ghz you could be getting in the region of 8% more than me, not sure why it's that low for a 5Ghz overclock. I know we've discussed that before, but this difference is larger than the previous results we discussed - praps there's some room for more optimisation somewhere by Eurocom?

Awesome that our Canadian Brothers can buy this little monster from Best Buy now. I wish USA customers had that option. I never thought I would see the day that Best Buy would offer an acceptable option for high performance notebooks. Certainly beats the snot out of anything else they sell.

Awesome machine! I definitely have F5 envy.

@Mr. Fox - for the inexperienced how steep a learning curve is there to getting the performance numbers you are seeing for the F5? Can a relatively inexperienced (but say handy) user get 95% of the way there without major overhauls? I'm just curious - I know this is an enthusiasts machine so some kind of challenge is expected. I'm also guessing that liquid metal treatment is highly recommended and that is relatively steep for the n00b (like me) to begin with.

Okay, yes, HID offers the real solution for n00bs who don't want to navigate hardware tweaking.

But I would still like to know what is involved if someone buys the Eurcom system.

Most overclocking tweaks are not too difficult and is fun to learn. Now the hardware mods, those can be a bit more tricky. But if you are comfortable with tools most of the mods aren't bad. Back cover mod, simple if you have a hole saw, the bios battery mod is easy but it requires getting to the underside of the motherboard which takes time and patience. Bios unlock for Vbios is not possible on your own right now. For standard BIOS I would recommend getting it unlocked from factory. Screen replacement is simple and just needs a #0 Phillips head screwdrivew

    @Mr. Fox
What is the battery life without G-Sync?

Hi bro. You know, honestly, I have no idea. I have never checked because battery life is not important to me. I only use it for a built-in UPS. G-sync no longer works because of the aftermarket 120Hz screen upgrade. I also haven't checked this on the P870DM3. I automatically disable G-sync in the global profile and with NVIDIA Inspector because I have no use for it. All it does is lower my benchmark scores. I cannot really see much difference in gameplay quality with or without G-sync.
