glad it helped! i didnt fresh install my 8.1. updated it to windows 10, without a clean update p.s. make sure the windows is activated then only do a full clean reset. there were no problems for me. so far i did normal installation for all the drivers, didnt force overwrite them and they all work flawlessly. regarding the windows key, i myself not too sure how to retrieve them, sorry! hope ull be able to solve ur problem soon!

Just to let folks know, don't know if AIDA64 was free and easy quick, but I found a free easy quick way of retrieving the Windows Key from Bios.
Use RWEverything portable 64bit more than likely click ACPI then MSDM and the key is right there under Data.

BTW Kevin or anyone.... I can likely find my receipt to know, but is there a way using this or otherwise to know which version of Windows was OEM installed on our MSI product?

Also, if one has installed another version of Windows like 8.1 Professional instead of "Home" used another key, and then was able to legally activate the computer with that other key and version of the OS by calling Microsoft lol, am I able to go back to using that original key and activate with it especially since it's bios linked, or do I need to keep using the one I used to ultimately activate the OS?
Like, I want to do a Fresh install, and I don't want to have issues activating. I'm assuming they simply associate particular hardware with a key and not the other way around key with particular hardware, that way you can use and activate different versions of Windows on the same hardware as long as you have a legal key for each version?

Okay, to make sure I got that right. :)
    - You updated your 8.1 to Windows 10
    - You activated it.
    - You created a Windows 10 Install Disk or USB image
    - Did a Full Disk Format and fresh install of Windows 10 with the Disk or USB
    - You used your Windows 8.1 key and was able to activate fine?

    Got that right?
Ya, I had heard that people needed to update first to properly activate because doing a fresh install without activating Windows 10 first caused people to not be able to activate.

    Yes, this is correct.
AIDA64 isn't free but you can use it for 30 days free of charge, it can help with a lot of things such as DMI info, device drivers, stability test, etc.

Kevin,do you know whether MSI GT70 Dominator can benefit from 230W power adapter? You probably know that MSI implemented the NOS feature to use an extra power from the battery with the default 180W supply. Is there a way to disable this NOS feature, and the laptop to use 230W or 240W power adapters?

Any machine with the NOS system can't take advantage of a larger PSU. There is no way to disable it.

I think that it can be disabled by uninstalling Dragon Gaming Center which controls Hybrid Power that is actually the NOS feature.

Current models caps at 230W so they are okay.
EC firmware is difficult to modify due to its nature of complexity.

If there is no way to disable NOS feature on Haswell MSI laptops, then 230W PSU isn't useful.

I just saw this V8 EXP GDC (mini PCIe)

Although MSI GT60 only have one slot for mini express. Is this compatible when using ang external gpu?

You'll get better performance off of an MXM card as the mini PCI-E is 1x 2.0.

Yes but they are so expensive. I was opted to buy the GTX 970M but changed my mind afterwards. EXP GDC is cheaper but it has known stability issues.

guys, is it okay for me to dig this thread up?

In preparation to upgrade this laptop of mine to its maximum potential, I did a repaste of the GPU and CPU. The GPU cools down considerably and never get higher than 82-83*.

The CPU is another problem entirely. No matter what method i tried pea shape or the line dot, its still idling 55-60* and get up to 87* during load. Is that normal? I read a few posts that bragged their CPU top out at 80* after repaste. I use Noctua NT-H1 btw.

So my questions are as follow:
    1. Whats the normal acceptable temparature for my particular CPU 4810MQ

    2. What is this Liquid Metal I hear so many praise about, is it usable on my CPU and GPU and is it worth it?

    3. My model is GT60-2PC. There is a similar config with the 3K screen. Is it possible to swap it in? (i already swapped mine with a samsung hl04 since my old one have dead pixel lines)

That's all I want to know for now as I'm following the MXM thread and chinese sites closely in hope of upgrading my GPU later.

    Thanks guys!

This model uses 180W AC adapter. Don't get anything higher than 180W because the extra juice will not be utilized by the system.
