I see your points. The vBIOS I currently use for GTX 870M is designed to work at maximum OC at stock voltage (1.000v) by Klem at TechInferno (Svet's vBIOS for GTX 870M is unfortunately for 6 GB Clevo versions). Anything beyond that causes driver crash and recovered. If I lower the voltage, I believe OC will become unstable. I actually like it because I don't like raising the voltage, it shorthen the chip's life as you said. But maybe I should try lowering the voltage at stock clocks.

I'm very pleased GTX 870M's OC performance but the main problem is that temperature here is getting hotter and hotter (and because I live in roof room (whatever you do, don't stay at roof room!) due to college, it reflects the heat so very quickly). Therefore I have to use its stock clocks again. I'm hundred percent sure that I will be able to use OC in my home with no heat problem. Guess I will have to be patient for a while, the college will end in the next month, yay!

Svet's tool should work with any VBIOS.
For best results, let Svet take a look at your system and see if he can manually tune the BIOS & VBIOS for you.

Thanks guys, My laptop should be coming in on Monday and I haven't even touched it yet but I have some questions already. All questions below are related to installing a SSD.

Are both the SATA slots are SATA III on the MSI GT70 895?

If I want to replace my 1 TB HDD with a 500 GB Samsung EVO 850 2.5 SATA III SSD, is it as easy as just removing the 1TB HDD and plug in the Samsung SSD? (I don't want to have both the HDD and SSD although I know it is possible to have both at the same time, I just want the SSD, hence I am asking to replace the HDD with a SSD.)

I hear that Windows 8.1 comes pre-installed. How will I be able to re-install Windows 8.1 when there are no Windows 8 CD that came with the laptop?

Does the Utility CD that came with the GT70 895 contain all drivers necessary, such as motherboard, CPU, and network drivers and etc?

Is there anything else I need or should know about installing a SSD to the GT70 895?

    Thanks!

Yes they are, the optical is SATA II. You would use an ISO from microsoft, ensuring you select the correct edition and OEM type in the downloader and write it to a disc or USB stick.

Drivers are best downloaded from MSI/nvidia and stored prior to the re-install to get the latest set.

Both SATA slots are SATA III (6.0 Gbps), and third ODD slot is SATA II (3.0 Gbps). *Corrected*
Upgrading with SSD is more beneficial, and removing the drive itself is very simple on both bays.

It's important to make the recovery discs using MSI BurnRecovery utility because you may need it later.
Win 8.1 is preinstalled so if you need to reinstall it then recovery discs will be needed.

The only disc bundled is utility/driver disc but you will only need it if you use your own OS installation media. Recovery discs will restore the system to fully usable state as if it were brand new from the factory.

That's all you needed to know about installing SSD to the GT70.
But if you still have any questions, then feel free to let us know.

It should be SATA III now with haswell since it supports up to 4x Gen III slots and the super raid II adapter uses 3 of those and the other bay uses the other.

The GT72 has 4 M.2 slots (SATA based) so it has to use Gen II for the 2.5" bay so you might be confused by that.

GT70 Dominator-895 which has 2x 2.5" drive bays, 2 bay with SATA III, and the ODD bay which is just SATA II.

    Note: Correction on bays.

So I'm confused, is the purple or yellow circle the one that is SATA III?

(The photo below does not belong to me, I found it on the internets).

I can confirm that there are two SATA III and one SATA II (ODD Bay) in my Haswell GT70 barebone. I can post HWInfo screenshoots.

Those both ports have SATA III, it won't be a problem :)

The optical bay is the one with the HDD, so if you used a caddy to convert it to a 2.5" bay it would be at SATA II speeds.

You guys, my GT70 came today. It was supposed to be a 895? But somehow the laptop shows GT70 2PC instead of GT70 895. It still has a i7 4810 and a 870m but the name is just different.

Also how do I know when turbo boost kicks in? Thanks.

    Hey Guys!
    /
I have a MSI GT70 2PC since last September. I have no complaints about it, but is there any tweaks or adjustments that I should look for?
For example, I've just changed the settings on Sound Blast software to "Stereo" which then set my crossover frequency to 80, which increased a lot the bass when using headphones. Do you guys recommend any specific crossover frequency?

Actually there is one little thing that have been bothering me, it's the touch pad left button. It is kind of stiff and I don't know why... Do you think there might be some food under it? LOL

    Best
    Luiz

The name change is normal. In reality most machines are named 2PC, 2QE and stuff like that, but the name when you order it refers to the version of the country you bought it from plus other info. For example, my GT80 is a GT80 Titan-001 but the machine is named GT80 2QE 001. Things like that. If it has the same specs as advertised, you are okay.

As for turbo boost, you just need to monitor your CPU. Using software like the newer HWmonitor, CPU z and stuff like that, you can see current CPU speed. Normal non turbo speeds are in the 2Ghz range, like 2.6-2.8Ghz. When the CPU is using turbo, it goes over 3Ghz.

    It's actually "GT70 2PC(Dominator)-895US-BB74818G1T0S81M".
Look at the white sticker on the outer box, which should say "GT70 2PC-895US".
    S/N is GT70 2PC-895USKxxxxxxxxxx.

Hey. my GT70 has a sticker that says Super Raid 2 optional. What does it mean by optional? How do I turn it on or do I have to buy a specific Super Raid 2 thing to make it work? Is it already installed or enabled? I've been Googling and found out that it makes your hard drive faster.

This unit came with 1TB 7200RPM HDD which means it does not come with Super RAID adapter. If you open up the bottom cover you will see two (2) drive bays, that's all.
Super RAID adapter is intended for 3x mSATA SSD devices which isn't bundled in the lower premium models.

In the bios in the first screen it should be listed, check your router settings and see if you can change from 2.4ghz or 5ghz to the other depending on which you are using.

cool! will try that when i have time! thanks! :) oh yeah, last question, how do i change the sensor's (film icon/fan boost/keyboard light mode/etcetcetc?) shortcut?

update:- im so confused with the bios version/types. my current bios version is E16F4IMS.50Y. how do i know which bios update i can use because here says e.g. "If your system BIOS version is E16F4IMS.500 ~ E16F4IMS.508, please must update BIOS to E16F4IMS.50V before you update to the latest version E16F4IMS.51X/If your system BIOS version is E16F4IMS.700 ~ E16F4IMS.708, please must update BIOS to E16F4IMS.70V before you update to the latest version E16F4IMS.71X"? n what's the difference between "For UEFI RAID0 SKU" n "For UEFI None RAID SKU."? n also will it improve my laptop performance?

Hey guys, I have an MSI GT60 16F4 barebones that shipped with an 880m (now 980m), can someone tell me if the monitor is IPS or TN? I always thought it was just a good TN but I'm not sure anymore. Or is there a good way to check?

The only way to know for sure if your panel is IPS or TN is by using a System Info tool like HWiNFO64 (under Monitor info). For exemple I have a GT60-2PE-Dominator-Pro equipped with a SAMSUNG 156HL01-102 screen. I checked that screen on the Internet and discovered that it was a PLS screen (pretty much the same technology as IPS). But I knew it already as the blacks were deep and the colors accurate. I also checked it on CalMAN ColorChecker calibration software.

Hey guys, I need some help!

My mic is not working. I have already had this problems with my brother's GT60 (which we somehow fixed and now it's showing the same problem again), but now it's happening also with the Gt70 that I own. The issue is the following: Mic works (poorly) when there is no external mic connected. Then, if I connect my headset it stops working (the sound input gets EXTREMELY low). The solution that I found was to uninstall the Realtek drivers, which is not entirely a solution because the sound blaster cinema stops working (it can't find the driver).
I see two ways for solving this. 1-Fixing Sound Blaster Cinema so it works with windows drivers, OR, 2- Fixing realtek driver so it does not "mute" my mic
There is one thing that I noticed that might be key to a solution but I can't work through it. When the realtek driver is installed there is only one mic input, while uninstalling it (windows drivers) there is two mic inputs. Is there any way to make two inputs when using the realtek driver? Ps. I saw in some videos that there is this option in "Realtek HD audio" program, but in my case there isn't.

    Thanks!

You can use the realtek audio panel to set which is the default MIC.

Did you reinstall the Realtek driver? Do not uninstall it.
Once installed, check recording device properties and make sure the record level is set to 20 dB.

Yeah, I already did it. I installed it again and was messing around with the configuration but nothing seems to work. It bugs me that the realtek just can't handle both microphones. I'm totally sure that if I could split the two mics it would work just fine.

Realtek driver's design will only allow one microphone to be used if you have an external mic installed thus the internal will become inactive.

Right, only one microphone can be set as the default recording device at any given time, just as only one playback device can be the default playback device at any given time.

Good day kind sirs! I'm having trouble with my GPU lately. 3d objects flickers using gtx870m but when i use integrated graphics card everything is ok. i have tried to install older drivers, update bios, complete wipe of driver then reinstall, tried it on windows 8.1 pro and windows 7 ultimate still the same and put it back to 8.1 but still the same. I hope this forum could help me as I have asked in toms and geforce forum but no reply. I also tried removing the gpu and putting it back.

It's normal under high load that the battery stops charging. Does lowering the memory clock by say 200mhz help? Or a decent chunk of the core?

No, it is not. The battery have to charge to a 100% and then stop charging.
Kaiser22 did you overclock your GTX 870M? Is the problem just appear lately? Does GTX 870M work properly before?

This happened on stock clock under good temperature. Just happened all of a sudden. Tried to underclock aswell but to no avail. Also updated my bios and ec firmware but still the same. I'm looking at reflowing my gpu since its out of warranty. :-(

Tried lowering it slowly up to the max level but still get the same result. Btw im using a replacement charger that is a little below the suggested configuration. 9v - 7.11a

Im out of ideas on how to fix this. Mentally drained now. @_@

19v and 7.11a is only 135W where as you really need 180W for your system.

Could this be causing the flickering?

Don't use different power adapter than original one or with lower power consumption as you mention 135W. This is not enough and you can completely damage your laptop.
