Still waiting for mine with i7 and 512gb config.
Curious about the battery life. A few review sites stated it as being a smidge worse than the SF pro 3.

Battery life on the m3 model is certainly better than SP3 according to my testing. However i5/i7 models are probably a bit lower... I will have much more detail in my full review, coming later today.

It makes sense if you think about it: higher-resolution screen, brighter panel (+15% or so), and slightly smaller battery. Even with the added chipset efficiency it is hard to regain that ground.

So I guess the i7 release date slipped? I can't see any other reason why I am seeing Pre-order for Best Buy right now and the date is Dec. 4th?

Microsoft Stores apparently got them today, but Best Buy all says Dec 4. There is a guy over on the tabletpcreview.com that picked his i7 up this morning.

I'm waiting to see thermal/throttling and performance before pulling the trigger.

Drove an hour to be informed that stock was 'for pre-order only'. This really drives me nuts. I waited longer for the i7 already then to be told there were none available to buy when it never specified that it was being moved or that I couldn't pick one up (pre-order only, sir) I'm fairly close to saying forget it. This left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Edit: Talked with the manager Gabe before leaving and an excellent guy. Turned a weird situation that left me disappointed into a great one. The call center had said they had x amount without checking and so gabe took care of it.

    Specific benchmarks for anyone?

    According to Anandtech the i5 SP4 registered a 857 in Firestrike while the SP3 managed a 642.
    The i7 w/ Iris just pulled 1149.
    Skydiver SP4: 3639 SP3: 2244
    i7: 4699

Has anyone experienced poor battery life with the SP4? I mean really poor. There are several articles out there which detail a high battery drain when the device is in sleep/standby mode. Some have said it's due to Windows Hello. Anyone can confirm this?

I can't check. My i7 SP4 is delayed due to the Microsoft Store in my area not getting enough units to satisfy pre-orders. :vbmad:

My surface pro 4 (i5/8/256) has some issues with graphic driver and battery life differs a lot depending on workload. The battery indicator usually predicts 3-4 hours batterylife but in reality me who uses mainly edge and office it lasts 5-6 hours with screen on recommebded setting.

Complete your firmware updates and windows updates asap on the SP4 i7's as there was a 11/18 patch released (that works for i5's as well) and addresses some of these issues. I have noticed an improvement almost immediately (weird visual glitch before hand, none after)

Anyway you could run a 3DMark11 P run? That's been my go to for years and I did extensive testing with my SP2, SP3 i5 and i7.... would love to see how the i7 performs after repeated (say 5 back to back runs). SP3 i7 did great on first run and then tanked after it heated up. I'm reading some reports of power throttling this go round on the SP4 i7 instead of thermal throttling on the SP3 i7.

    Enjoy your new device!

Just thought I'd share with you guys, I have an i5 256GB surface pro 4. Thought it was defective because I was getting a lot of static electricity around the magnesium case when I had the power supply plugged in. I also noticed the fans were extremely noisy. I was going to return it but then tried putting the plug into the power brick the other way round and suddenly NO MORE STATIC! And the fans run very quietly now. I should mention that I'm here in the UK and use a 3 pin plug that goes into the wall but the plug that goes into the power brick has two heads and can be put the wrong way round quite easily.

@be77solo Of course, would love to!
... as soon as I get my device back. WiFi kept dropping so I returned it but I'm on a waiting list for the device to come back in. It was an annoyance for me, since the 2.4ghz band worked great, but the 5ghz would drop every half hour or so and reconnect. I'll update again soon.

Anyone still having the screen staying black/blank when waking the machine up from sleep or hibernate? I've tried a couple of fixes to help it. Not sure if it's a display driver fault or not.

I just bought a Surface Pro 3 second hand to replace my Surface Pro 2, got the Type Cover 4 to go with it and wow! This keybard is so far superior to the Type Cover 2 it's almost beyond words. Firstly, the actual keys themselves are much more enjoyable to both type on and use for things like games, etc. But the biggest improvement is the trackpad. This trackpad actually works like it should do. The trackpad on the Type Cover 2 was absolutely trash, and this thing is a revelation. Just my 2 cents.

I also have the Type Cover 4 for my Surface Pro 3, and it has definitely made the laptop experience of the device a lot better. I highly suggest anyone with a Surface Pro 3 to grab themselves the new type cover, you won't regret it.

Earlier this year I bought a maxed out 15" rMBP (i7/16gb/1tb/dGPU) for school but now I'd like to have the ability to start taking all my class notes on a tablet to cut down on having to carry 4 notebooks. I looked at the iPad Pro then the SP4. I ended up liking the writing function better on the Surface so I bought the i5/4gb/128gb model with the new touchcover. I don't like the added weight, nor do I really plan on using a keyboard but I wanted something that would cover the screen while not in use and could be flipped around to the back while I'm taking notes. Have any of you seen anything like this?

If I have around max 1100 euro on surface, what is best choice

    1) new Surface Pro 4 i5-6300u 4gb 128gb - from microsoft store 1099euro
    1b) new Surface Pro 4 m3 4gb 128gb - from microsoft store 999euro
    or
    2) use Surface Pro 3 i5-4300u 4gb 128gb - ebay from 799euro (only with acadapter) up to 850euro (with keyboard pen acadapter)
    3) use Surface Pro 3 i5-4300u 8gb 256gb - ebay from 900euro/999euro (only with acadapter)
    4) use Surface Pro 3 i7-4550u 8gb 256gb - ebay for 1090euro (only with acadapter)
    5) use Surface Pro 3 i7-4650u 8gb 256gb - ebay for 1099euro (pen and acadapter)

I will be use device for photoshop, dreamweaver and very light gaming (diablo3,starcraft2,..) but mainly for work.

When I look on all parametres wihtout gpu so best choice is maybe use sp3 i7 from ebay, but I read that i7 have in sp3 very big problems with throthling.

And when I look on it only eyes gpu power, so best choice is new sp4 because have it HD520 (I mean versus HD4400, maybe if i7 in sp3 havent problems with throtling so is it better because have it 40cores versus 24 in hd520. But what I read on internet so i7 have realy big problems with throtling)
Only one thing what is strange, HD5000 aka Iris have 40cores and HD520 only 24cores but on notebookcheck in benchmark gaming list is hd520 on 290.place and hd5000 on 321.place - hm maybe skylake 24cores have more power than haswell 40cores

Or save money and buy use sp3 with i5 4gb?

    ..ah hard choice..

You should be able to return that SP4 for no reason at all. Just tell them it's not working out for your needs.

Or, if they don't like that, maybe you are past your normal return period? Ask if you can get store credit to get a Surface Book?

I know, I'm coming to this party kinda late. I can confirm that the i7 model I purchased last night is two by 8GB, 1867 MHz, SK Hynix according to XTU.

PSA: If you're accustomed to undervolting your SP3 or SP4 then you may want to hold off a bit on Windows 10 1607. Kernel mode driver signing policies are being hard enforced in the Anniversary Update and the overclock driver in XTU is not appropriately signed.

FYI: If any of you SP4 owners are noticing increased temperatures after the Anniversary Update, check on your CPU clock speed (ie via CoreTemp, Task Manager, etc). Many users (myself included) have been reporting that the AU breaks CPU scaling and locks the CPU at the max clock speed, which for me was 2.9GHz.

Luckily, users have made a registry fix that essentially restores the broken processor power settings in the registry to pre-AU state. See here for details: https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/4wfish/progressfix_for_the_anniversary_update_cpu/
