Is there a way to replace the touchscreen on the surface pro 2? It's about less than 1 inch but it's still under standard warranty until.next month bit the replacement cost is $1200! It was only $650 a few months ago but not sure why the price went up .
Is there a way to replace the touchscreen instead?

The problem with the Surface display is that it requires a heat gun to remove it. It is a difficult process and not considered to be something that can be done by a typical owner. Plus, why replace it when you can get a refurbished unit for less than the price of a replacement display?

No matter what they told you, the Surface Pro is not a modular lap top, which are best with metal base/key boards. ANY plastic laptop, thick or thin will crack eventually, and this is film with wiring in it!
I would not want to ever move a Surface Pro because of the wiring, connections, keyboard, and monitor (esp.) All laptops have their pluses and minuses (esp.), so it's hard finding a good value one no matter what. But I'd get something else than a Surface Pro anyway. ymmv -
Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
@Airflix replacement display-touchscreen assembly will cost you $70+; the whole process ain't for the faint of heart. You may ease the process by simply thrashing display module you have, it's cracked anyway; make sure you upgrade SSD while you're at it. Oh, and forget about replacing touchscreen alone. To be perfectly honest, keeping the machine as is seems much better alternative, given its age.

I agree with Bronsky. I've worked on one of these before and you should not try to replace it yourself. If anything that link Starlight posted makes it look easier than it is. If you can't feel the crack and it doesn't affect touchscreen operation, I'd ignore it and use it until it dies to be honest.
Surface Pro 2 screen cracked about 1in
