How sturdy is that hinge? Will it survive in a packed travel backpack (and no, not the "regukar" backpack microsoft says) ?

Thanks for the information.
Will this case fit it? - http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...448006149&sr=8-5&keywords=surface+book+sleeveLast edited: Nov 20, 2015 -

That sleeve is: 13.4" x 9.4"; so there will be room for the pen too.
I got this case: https://www.sfbags.com/collections/...es/products/microsoft-surface-book-sleevecase
More expensive, but it is neoprene lined, looks great, very well made, small enough to put into a backpack, but also can be used on its own with a pocket to fit the power cord and can have a shoulder strap. Also since its made for the Surface Book, it fits perfectly.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

the real question is how many open/closes will that hinge allow for - over the course of a year or two...will it get wobbly

Welcome to the crowd...most of us think we did well buying the SB. Yep its pricey, but the quality (the noises of the Apple shills notwithstanding) is great and the feel is superb. We need to keep working the issues as they come up, but all for me have been minor and fixable mostly via the blogs and news sites. The only issue I had that was not resolved that way resolved itself one day. I would look at the clipboard while mounted and note that there was a 64th (or 32nd) of an inch gap on the right side of the keyboard/clipboard connection point. If I reversed the clipboard the gap would reverse to the left side. I noted nothing out of the ordinary in construction or difference between the sides after very close inspection.. But it did not impact operation nor detachment nor was there any looseness. So I ignored the issue and chose not fret over it unless there is an impact. Then Christmas eve I was doing a detachment and out fell a piece of someone's fingernail from inside the clipboard "catch". Now no gap and no change in operations.

I bought the non-GPU version and I have been loving it so far. The only thing that I would like to improve at the moment is that the charging seems very slow.
Can anyone confirm whether the 65w charger will charge the non-GPU version (that comes with a 36w charger as standard) faster or is it limited by the internals? -
Well, took the plunge and picked up a Surface Book i7/256 to replace my SP3. So far really enjoying it, had it a little over a week of daily usage for work and pleasure.
Loving the size and performance. Was worried the "clipboard" part would be too big as a tablet, but finding the reduced weight more than offsets the size, and the bigger screen is great to have. Use it about 40/60 tablet/laptop. Pleasantly surprised with the dGPU in the base, definitely a significant jump up power wise from the iGPU's in my previous Surfaces.
Only issue I'm having is the latest updates have disabled my "Hello" camera for some reason, seems to be a known bug, hoping April updates fix this. Otherwise, very smooth and stable experience so far.
Curious to see where MS takes this in the future, and I was planning to wait for the inevitable Book 2 whenever that might show up, but with most big issues resolved on the current version, figured why not! -
Wow superb, am eagerly waiting to buy that laptop.

The non-GPU charger is very slow. You can safely use the dGPU 65w charger. I did it for a month (at which point we had to return our review loaner, it's not that anything went wrong).

Hi guys,
has anyone switched over from a 15" Macbook Pro? My (maxed out) rMBP is a great machine. I've only had it for about half a year. I have two problems with it, however: it's not very portable and it's loud as hell. Even watching Youtube videos makes the fan spin up full throttle and sometimes it won't "calm down" until I perform a reboot.
Two things, though:
- how's the touchpad? Some reviewers say it's as good as the Macbook's, some say it's a catastrophe - so which one is it?
- How's the screen real-estate? This would be my only computer and I do quite a lot of work on it (I'm a language teacher and a freelance photographer). Anyone using this as his / her main machine? I don't believe in external monitors etc.
