This time it has to do with file associations and the service KDEInit. After removing OpenOffice 2 and installing the newest version of 2.2 (RPMs from the website, not Adept), whenever I try to open a word file it gives me this message:
"KDEInit could not launch 'ooffice'. Could not find ooffice executable"

This is weird considering that OO seems to be functioning perfectly and that when I right-click on the file, I have the option of opening the file with Kwriter, and two identical Writer options (one has the icon, the other does not).

I tried making a file type association with Writer by choosing "Open With", and it seemed to save the setting, but I tried again after only to get the same error message. Opening these files by right-clicking and selecting the program is a work-around, but I'd like a real solution. Any ideas?

Check my post about UNIX processes to see what KDEInit does. It is the base process that all other programs in KDE are launched through.

As for the file associations, you can configure those from inside of Konqueror. I think between OpenOffice 2.0 and 2.2 they changed the way the executables are launched, you can either use ooffice or use the specific oowriter/oocalc/ooimpress, or whatever depending on the file type.
