Trying to install win7 in the latest VMware virtual machine or Linux virtual machine within puppy Linux 5.2. It keeps running out of ' personal space ' or virtual memory or whatever the bars in the lower right corner of puppy signify. I have used the recommended 512mb setting and all the way up to 1.8gb with same issue. My laptop is. Clevo Alienware M7700 3.8Ghz P4 with 3mb onboard. I'm trying to install win 32.bit. any advice?

I haven't had any trouble running Windows 7 in the free Virtualbox VM software (which does have a version that will run on Linux), but I always gave at least 2GB of RAM to the VM.
Oh, this thread seems to have been posted in the wrong forum...Temetka likes this. -
How big is your hard drive, and how much did you specify for your virtual machine? -
I just tried this for the fun of it on a Linux 16 XFCE 32 bit CF-19 toughbook with 3 GB RAM and 120 GB hard drive.
I allocated 1.5 GB for RAM and 62 GB virtual hard drive. Fumbled through the install and Windows 7 is running nicely.
I would try Mint 13 LTS if you can first, and as above increase your RAM and disk space for the virtual drive. -

Yes, they do have a 32-bit version.
When you created the VM you allocated 20GB for it, or you created a 20GB partition in puppy? -

I'm not familiar with Puppy, but use Mint found here:
Linux Mint 13 "Maya" - Xfce (32-bit) - Linux Mint
I created a virtual machine 1/2 of my hard drive with VM. For Windows 7 install, I would think you want at least 50-60 GB of virtual hard drive space. Then, since you have a SSD, you'll want to go in to settings while in Win7 and "tweak" it with things such as this:
The SSD Optimization Guide Redesigned | The SSD Review
There is an entire tweak session on Win7.
Good luck -
Puppy Linux is a terrible OS for non-live environments.
I suggest you use Debian with JWM for low-end systems. -
OK, I loved the feel of Mint but didnt know they had a 32b version. Ill go with that (32 or 64b) since I just found out that my Alienware M7700 'Aurora' 3.8GHz P4 is "64bit ready"... huh? EM64T 650 CPU...!
