any modern well support distro will do what you want. The distro should provide the drivers, packaged from the nvidia.com website.

    take a look at www.distrowatch.com

I have tried Arch, Ubuntu 7.10, Kubuntu 7.10 and openSUSE 10.3 on my Asus G1S with success. They all support nVidia 8600M GT card. Also compiz-fusion works without problems. If you choose Xfce4 desktop instead on KDE/GNOME, you will all the speed benefits too.

Give PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2008 a try. There is a Utilities icon on the desktop that will lead you to a Wizard for installing the NVidia drivers. Afterwards, just installing compiz from the repos and enable it from the PClinuxOS Control Center. Personally, I like the default theme, (tweaked just a little bit).

This should help you a lot. Remember, you can make them all look alike. DE, WM, Wallpaper, Icons, Compiz, whatever.

I use Fedora 8 x86_64 and Livna for my NVIDIA drivers.

Yes, it's mostly a cut n paste of Ubuntu, mostly I said Mint users :) I've used it, liked it....tossed a coin between plain Ubuntu and Mint.
