Hi first time I'm doing this...could anyone point me in the right direction of a good tutorial that actually works...Im duel booting xp and ubuntu...Also I'm going to eventually get rid of xp all together and just run Linux...Can I smoothly delete XP without affecting Linux and give it the whole HD.

Hi thanks for your reply. I actually decided to go for a direct cut-over and just format the hard drive an just have 'Ubuntu' instead of duel booting.. So far it has been relatively easy to adjust except for a few minor problems, such as it will not play dvd's, or mp3's, and keyboard reaction time is slow(I.e. have to wait a second before hitting caps again or i'll end up with a word like 'COmputer'..which is getting quite annoying) ??? anyone experienced these problems, Im more concerned with the keyboard matter, as I know its probably just a simple patch or something for the others???

It's very strange that you get that delay. It may be related to your video drivers or something. I've never heard of anything like that, though. Playing DVD's and mp3's, go search the ubuntu forums. You pretty much just have to enable the multiverse repositories and install some software if I recall correctly. Does the keyboard take a while to light up the caps-lock when you hit it, or does it just lag in the display of that stuff on the screen?

Look for something called Automatix2. It will let you watch DVDs, mp3s, etc, and also includes ways to install video drivers for both ATi and nVidia cards (if your card is supported), which may help your delay problem as Pitabred said.

the screen lag is likely because you have an ATI or nVidia video card which have proprietary drivers, which aren't included on the Ubuntu CD. So basically your CPU has to do all the normal functions plus draw the screen.

anyway, to enable multiverse, go System > Administration > Software Sources. just a couple of check boxes and you're off to the races. definitely install any video drivers you need first.
