I made my own background for the gnome panel and it's pretty dark. But when I hover over something it turns to a bright white. Is there a way I can change this?

So you're going to Properties, Background, Background Image and selecting a picture? Have you tried several different pictures to see what happens? I don't have that problem when I set a panel background.

    Cheers. :)

Install gnome-color-chooser go to the Panel tab and change the Hover color.
