do i need to download it? or just type in stuff in the terminal.

Intel should work pretty decently right away, but you may have to install the package 915resolution if your screen res isn't correct.
After you GPU is set up and working correctly, you can move on towards Beryl. It's a long and windy road.
If you have an nVidia or Intel card, you can use a thing called AIGLX. It's slightly better than the system ATi users are stuck with, XGL, but Xgl is slightly easier to set up.

Then, you're nearing the end. Beryl or Compiz. Beryl has more effects, and is usually the program seen running in all those videos. Compiz is still pretty however, and is seen to be a bit more stable. Choice is up to you.
