I personally prefer to not use the ndiswrapper drivers because they take away some of the functions of the card e.g. raw frame injection.

I was reading that on July 27th, intel 3965/4965 support was added out of the box for Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Tribe 3. Perhaps the most recent daily build will have it....

Use the link t12ek gave you; I have the same card and have it functional using that method.

If you want to use a Gutsy kernel in Feisty, see the following thread:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=511974

I'm planing to do just that to get wireless working for my Sager NP2090 when it gets here. (Tomorrow hopefully.)

the 4965 works for me on gentoo. i compiled the kernel (gentoo-sources-2.6.22-r2) with mac80211 support. then i unmasked iwlwifi and iwl4965-ucode. emerging 'iwlwifi' with USE 'ipw4965' worked. i don't know about the quality of the drivers and card, but i've tested it on some neighbors' unsecured WLANs.

Oh, for those who are using Ubuntu and want 4965 wifi. Upgrading the kernel to the 2.6.22 found in Gutsy is a first step but may not be enough. For my Sager NP2090 (which is a Compal IFL90) I performed a few extra steps that I've documented here.

And one thing that will probably affect everyone. Make sure your SSID is broadcast, otherwise the driver will lockup if you try to connect to an access point that does not broadcast its SSID.
