I'm not in it now...going to check it out further tomorrow like gpu, bluetooth, peripherals, etc. But, the wireless DOES work OTB. It's worthy of serious consideration!

Yeah, all serious distros should support that card natively. I think the next Linux kernel release may incorporate this driver, I'm not sure, but I hope so.

Thanks theZoid, every mainstream distro should by now have this driver as its a common card now a days.

Out of curiosity, have you tried Arch Linux ?

I tried it and its brilliant and amazingly fast even with a full kde/gnome installation.

Their isn't a live cd as you have to build the distro according to your own requirements and system. Its part of the reason its so fast as it includes onl those drivers for your hardware not for many other hardware and configurations.

Installing may seem complicated but the beginners guide in their wiki is very well written and easy to follow. In the process you learn a lot more about linux and I feel much more confident.

Whats great is that every bit of hardware is supported (since you have to choose which drivers to install), except the webcam on my laptop.

Arch also offers its very own kde, kdemod, its basically kde on steroids as its optimized for arch.

@Blackbird/ I've never checked out Arch "in person" I guess because of the lack of the live CD. That is something I should do right after I hose an installation ;) I'll check out the website to broaden my horizons :D

I may try out Arch, I just installed Mint on my T61 and now its being a pain in the arse to get the card to work for whatever reason. Mint being based on 7.10 ubuntu I would of expected more. Can't do much since drivers are already installed and I'm tired of flipping through documentation.

I need to learn more about Linux anyways...

I did a Zenwalk 5.0 install, and so far everything is working (I think) and it's pretty fast. I'd been waiting for intel 4965 support for Zenwalk, and this one has it very good as it's effortless to get online wirelessly.

Dont really like zenwalk...dont know why

I think its due to the xfce environment, its not as functional for me

right now my preference is either gnome or gnome + openbox (as you may have noticed in the post your desktop thread)

I'm checking it out now just to give slack a chance and curiosity as I need to do a reinstall of Mint KDE CE, reburning that disk right now. I had some glitches that I shouldn't have....I think a tiny mdsum problem was causing it, hopefully.

But Zenwalk, they're telling me on the forum you can fit any desktop you want on it without glitches or problems, I'll try it and see.
