    I am interested in the power usage of different laptops on linux operating systems while trying to save battery life (low power usage). I want to see how much power each laptop uses in terms of watts. For me, i determine this is "powertop" or just through the acpi power history.

    If you feel like it, please post the operating system you are using, the laptop you are using, settings (wifi yes/no, screen brightness setting, etc...), and anything special you have done save power usage

    Here is my setup:
    dell inspiron e1405
    5400 rpm EIDE harddrive
    t2400 = 1.83 GHz.
    2 gigs ram
    Integrated graphics (driver i810)

    OS:
    Ubuntu 7.04
    Gnome desktop

    When i want to save power, i turn down the screen brightness to minimum, turn off wifi and bluetooth, scale the processor down to 1.00GHz.

    This usually will run my laptop at around 10-12 watts and would give me around 6-7 hours on 9 cell battery (72.2Wh (84% health)).

    Whats your watt usage? What laptop do you have? what are your settings? and what is your linux OS? desktop environment?

    On a live CD yesterday I was at 23.4, but I had WiFi and bluetooth on, screen at 25%, and no graphics or CPU throttling. I will test again today. That yielded 2.66 hours

    LG T1 Laptop
    4800 rpm EIDE harddrive
    L2400 = 1.66 GHz (Low voltage)
    1 gig ram
    Integrated graphics (driver i945)

    OS:
    Xubuntu 7.10

    Wifi ON, Bluetooth ON, Screen 3/9, [email protected]
    9 W, 5.75h on a 6-cell
    WiFI OFF, Bluetooth OFF, Screen 3/9, [email protected]
    8W, 6.75h

    Note, I've been playing with powertop, and I think there is still more lifetime to get. Most of my wakeups reported by powertop are acpid related, which may be due to panel applets.
